Rate the film(s) you saw recently

Pretty much like the "Rate teh aniem" thread except with movies, but in my thread you have to put some form of justification, whether that be a sentence, paragraph or an entire review.

I'll get the ball rolling:

Kung Fu Hustle - 9/10
The cinematography, the humour, the wit, the absurdity, SHEER BRILLIANCE! I've never seen a film rate so high on the WTF factor.

Reality Bites - 8/10
Yeah, a nice little romance and a slice of life from an era I know little about inspite of being alive during the time it was set. Great characterization, especially the Tray, whom I love to hate. He's just such a pretentious wanker!

Buena Vista Social Club - 9.6/10
For these Cubans their music industry isn't about contracts, ego or competition, it's just as normal as sleeping, breathing and making love. Their music is as rich and colourful as the people that play them and the culture that raised them. Total Film was right on the mark when they called it "Sunshine for the soul".

Re: Rate the film(s) you saw recently

Most movies suck. But, I've been on a lucky streak this week.

A Very Long Engagement 9/10
Wonderful. Dark and sorrowful in every way that Amelie (it's predecessor) was light and faerytale-ish, but with just as much quirkiness and heart.

Sin City 8/10
Marv.. brilliant. Bruce Willis.. powerful. Bendicio...uh, kinda barely interesting. But the overall film was visually amazing. I especially live how they kept the film noir tone.

Old Boy 10/10
My god, how much damage (emotional, physical) can one man be put through? Genius. Gritty, at times painful to watch, but riteous rage and revenge like you've never seen. Move over Lee Marvin. Choi Min Sik has arrived... with a hammer.

Cross of Iron: 7

I have yet to read the book to compare, but this is a rather disturbing look at the Eastern Front in '43. There are many many themes to be had out of this one, such as abuse of power, pride (the bad kind), comradery.......A good film, but it does tend to be difficult to follow at times, and it would be so much better if it were actually in German.

The next 2 I only had running on a DVD player I had on test at work, so I didn't actually pay complete attention to them, but they didn't need all that much anyway.

Evil Dead 2: 6

Horrors films don't normally float my boat, but this one is just so......B grade it's funny.

Army of Darkness: 7 The sequel to Evil Dead 2, this one got a higher score cause it's even more outrageously crap than the other one, thus it makes it utterly hilarious.

The Skeleton Key - 6/10 - Interesting story, not "scary" or "frightening" at all.

Recently huh?

Nicholas Nickleby 9.5 out of 10
Dicken's at it's best. If you haven't seen or read the story then thee must live under thy rock.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 3 out of 10
Redeeming value is the fandom only. Otherwise it's about as tasteless as imitation chocolate or eating a Hershey's Kiss made of poi.

Supercross... no comment. too vulgar for this forum.

Good Morning Vietnam 8.5 out of 10.
A powerful comedy/drama set during the Vietnam war, a war where we weren't supposed to be involved in. Best quote in the movie, "You are in more of a dire need of a job blowjob than every white man in america." You may get your ass kicked, but saying that takes guts.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - 9/10

Ok, so not a new movie, but I just finished watching it! Gotta love the classic Star Wars. I was listening for Luke's "Nooooo!!" so I could compare it to episode III.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 7/10

Very entertaining and visual. Johnny Depp was hilarious. I enjoyed it but I didn't feel like I needed to see it again, and the songs were a little lacking. Good but not great.

Dancer in the Dark- 10

Wow. I'm not sure if I can put in words how great this movie was. Although it may be a bit overly harsh at times, almost to the point of becoming unrealistic, it still hits hard and left me in awe by the end. I don't think I'd ever be able to watch this movie again though, it was very hard to take, and would be even more depressing the second time through. Bjork was a great lead, and should star in another movie sometime soon.

Sky High - 9/10. A great comic book classic storyline turned into a movie. I think this is a great escape to remember that you can enjoy a movie even though you can predict almost everything that happens in it.

Ice Princess 7/10. Yeah I don't get out much -.- Well, I finally got to see this and thought it was a great sort of underdog movie. It even pulled some tears from me mid through it. It just is a great movie that makes me want to try harder at being me.

Kung Fu Hustle - 6/10.
Overrated and boring. I like the concept and the idea put forth behind the movie, but the general execution was lame and didn't interest me at all.

Star Wars - 10/10
Not a new movie, but I just saw it for the first time. Honestly didn't think I'd like it this much, though. Episode III had me itching for more Star Wars goodness, so I decided to check out the originals. Yeah, now I have a lot of questions I need answered. :/

Wedding crashers - 6/10

My friends dragged me to the cinema to watch this. Opening was ok, but it got repetitive very quickly. I don't like that. Although the humour was absolutely hilarious at several occasions, I was literally doing 'waAhahaha', u know, one that distorts your facial expression out of proportion and make u sound like a retard. But after that, it never got funny for another 30 min or so and the film finishes with another 'oooo happy ever after'. Jesus.

So it was entertaining, worth a stupid good laugh, but nothing special nor rewatchable. But that maybe so because this type of movies are not the ones I'd prefer to watch.

Re: Rate the film(s) you saw recently

Must Love Dogs- 5/10...meh, typical chick flick...a few teenagers who were sitting in front of my friends and I left partway through the film..can't blame them much though...though the whole part where they(Diane Lane and John Cusack) were driving through the town in search for a condom was entertaining...not exactly rewatchable or anything...
