Since the previous thread has gone the way of the dodo:
irc2.othersideirc.net #aa is our irc channel, if you dont have an irc client, goto www.mirc.com.
Also if that server doesn't work, try using irc.eggheads.org

If neither of those is working here's the list of all of the servers that connect to otherside. I'm sure one of them will let you get in.
http://www.othersideirc.net/servers/index.php
Undoubtedly, some people may want to join us in the IRC channel, but lack any experience with mIRC in order to actually get to the chatting part. Here are some instructions for mIRC version 6.12:
Download the latest version of mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/get.html).
Install mIRC to somewhere on your hard drive.
Open mIRC.
Upon opening mIRC, a box named mIRC Options should pop up. If it does not, the shortcut to this box is Alt + O.
On the left side of the box should be a tree diagram, but for now, the only part you should concern yourself with is Connect. Click on it.
Fill in your name, email address, nickname, and an alternative nickname in case your nickname is already being used on the network (Tip: use your student name and everyone will be able to identify you much easier).
Here would be an example of what my screen would look like:
http://www.pitt.edu/~eaj11/mirc.jpg
Now, go back to the tree diagram on the left side. Double-clicking on Connect should expand the tree. Click on Servers. You should see a number of options regarding networks and servers. Under the IRC Network selection, scroll down and choose Otherside. This should automatically set the IRC Server selection underneath it to Otherside: Random Server.
Here would be an example of what my screen would look like:
http://www.pitt.edu/~eaj11/mirc1.jpg
Now, just click on the button marked Connect to Server.
Once you are logged into the server, you will not be in a channel yet. To get into the official AA IRC channel, click on the input bar at the bottom and type /join #aa.
Now start chatting it up with everyone else! If it is after 3:00 AM EST, most people are asleep, but there are a few people who are on all the time. If you see a nickname like Eek|Zzz or Bikutoru|Sleep, that probably means that we are asleep and left our computers idling in the channel. Just because there are people in the channel who are not talking to you does not mean that they hate you; we have lives beyond AA (As hard as that may seem imaginable).
Oh, and as our loveable ChanServ will tell you upon entering #aa, please do not speak about where to download anime or software.
It should be noted that there are numerous other programs that allow you to access IRC (SysReset, UPP, X-Chat, Polaris, et cetera), but if you need to follow these instructions in order to get to the AA IRC channel, then these programs are a bit beyond your experience at this point. Play around with mIRC first, get a feel for how everything works, and then moving onto other IRC programs will be well within your ability.
If you wish to know about some of the more advanced options and abilities of mIRC, try asking someone in the channel for help or you can resort to the Help menu that comes with mIRC by pressing F1. If you still have problems with connecting to Otherside, ask a question in this thread.
Happy chatting!

Tiny note, the server setup thingy has changed since mIRC 6.1
You're gonna see Name, Nickname, E-mail, and the rest of that stuff on one screen and at the bottom of that you'll see a orange button. You need to click on that to see the server options.
Fixed.

"On December 1, 2003, irc.othersideirc.net will no longer work. Please use irc2.othersideirc.net or chat.othersideirc.net instead. Thank You."
From the Otherside people, so try one of the servers there or the serverlist I posted previously in this thread.
Has AA ever considered a java based IRC Chat room linked off the site? I assume it would raise the cost to run the site but I have no idea by how much.

It has been discussed and dispossed. Bandwidth issues is the reason why it has been disposed.
Besides DL and learning any IRC program is as easy as eating pie.

Oh yes I have IRC and it is easy as pie but I meant it more for people like myself who post more often from work or school, and can not download any programs

I don't think Mugs will set up a Java IRC channel/thingy for a selected few.
If the JAva IRC thingy goes forth is not because of the reason you give, Gabe, a least not as a whole.

When selecting the Otherside network, click on "Edit" and change the default server to which you connect.

Just to add onto what Cheezit said mIRC probably hasn't updated its server list so the default server for Otherside is still irc.othersideirc.net, which no longer works.
You will have to change the default server mIRC tries to connect to one of these (http://www.othersideirc.net/servers/index.php).
Of course, don't use the one that's bolded and not in the table.

Yeah I don't really like the chat. I asked about sources to get manga pdfs and was muted. eventually I was unmuted and someone was making gay comments, and someone else was saying they were gay and again, the same moron (Kain) muted the channel again... like there was any other conversation going on. After simply saying that Kain sucked I was banned... logged onto another shell and was immediately banned.

Can't say the whole gay thing was exactly mature, but everything else you brought upon yourself.
