How dare you compare the two?! Have you heard the instrumental version of Advice? That song rips! whereas linkin park plays the same chords over and over again in every song and raps really badly.

I wouldn't really compare them to Linkin Park either, but there's no need to be calling anyone stupid.

You really can't classify The Pillows. They have a sound of their own that you can't really compare. However, if I were to a modest comparision, their sound is like a combination of Weezer, The Beatles and The White Stripes.

But I prefer to think of them as The Pillows. It's as simple a that.

The Pillows are really growing on me, and it's been quite a while since i've found a band as refreshing as they are.

i have four things to say... three things to say, heck yeah the pillows rock! does anyone know were i can find more cause i've only heard the few songs on flcl and i'm looking for like a soundtrack and on the issue of pillows and lp i must agree for the most part with GWRS923 cause especially lp's new songs r but remix's though there r a few good songs suctch as "my december" for one (though the only reason i ever knew about that song was because of a music video i saw with it and a "Love Hina" video)

Ahem, don't patronize me. If you don't agree with me about my opinions on Linken Park, that's fine with me. Say so, but I have no idea how you can claim the two bands sound alike. Maybe some songs sound kind of alike in that they're in ALMOST the same genre (metal and new metal) but a lot of the pillows songs are more like radio punk. (really good radio punk, but still) I don't mean to blow up on you, but I couldn't possibly disagree with you more.

You know its a good OST when the songs bring back recolections (spelling?) of the anime in which the song was featured.

To stay on subject, when I listen to Carnival I remember the bridge scene in ep. 2. When I listen to Crazy Sunshine I recalled Canti flying into the air off the burned school in ep. 2 (I guess I like ep. 2).

Anyways, yes, the pillows do rock, and in keeping with their "pop-punk" feel, I think they sound more like Count the Stars, Blink 182, or New Found Glory than Lincoln Park.

I love the Pillows, and Linkin Park too. I like the Pillows more though. Crazy Sunshine, Hybrid Rainbows, and Ride on Shooting Star are my favorites so far.

Although I like LP too, I wouldn't compare them. You really can't compare The Pillows to any other bands out there. They're like a genre all their own to me. ^_^

Not to get off topic but, I most definitely wasn't patronizing you. Sorry if you took offense to anything. I didn't even mention Linkin Park or anything you said in my first post so I'm a little lost. :confused: But since we're here, I also don't see the connection between the two bands. I love the pillows, don't really care for Linkin Park, and don't think they sound alike.

I think one of the main reasons I really started to get into The Pillows after first hearing about them like most people, through FLCL, is how much they reminded me of just Rock. No crazy long-named sub genre but what I consider to just be Rock. And that all made since once I learned they have been around for a while; their sound definitely has this mid-90s thing going. And since everyone else is as well, some of my favorites would probably be (in no particular order):

Beautiful Morning With You
Little Busters
She Is Perfect
Bran-new Love Song
Subhuman
Hybrid Rainbow
...and Come Down probably (I could find witnesses as to how far my jaw dropped when I saw the manga scene for the first time)

I like the pillows. I haven't heard very much of their stuff, but Crazy Sunshine and Little Busters are two of my favourites. So far I haven't listened to anything by them that I don't like. It's kind of refreshing compared to all the new bands coming out with CD's with only one good song.

On topic, The Pillows certainly do have a uniqueness, somewhere between screaming heavy metal and soft (almost country-like) tone. Not exactly hard rock, but definitely not pop either, my interpretation at least. The Engrish certainly doesn't hurt either :D.

I think that a lot of people's opinions of The Pillows are based on FLCL. if The Pillows had never been in FLCL, they may have never made it this far. So, I think the people that bash them are judging them based on simply their music, not with how well it may go with scenes from FLCL.

At the same time, it may simply be just opinion of music, like how people will like or dislike Linkin Park, System of a Down, GC, or any other band.

And I definitly choose Hybrid Rainbows over the Pokemon Ending Theme.

The Pillows are supposedly releasing a new album in November. It is currecntly called Penalty Life, but that could change. They also released a single 'TERMINAL HEAVENS ROCK', earlier this year.

Both bands have something in common: I have listened to songs from both and none of them have disappointed me. And...they don't SOUND alike. I have never heard anything like The Pillows. I think it should be a new genre: J-Punk!! :D

Well, I love The Pillows, not a big fan of LP, just my taste, can't really bash them. I really like all Pillows songs, from Come Down to White Ash. They're all such cool songs, and I have yet to find one I don't like. Subhuman is also a very good song. I'm listening to it right now, so much fun. I kind of disagree about how The Pillows wouldn't have made it this far without FLCL, I heard my first Pillows song before ever seeing FLCL, and I was instantly in love with their music.

I dig the pillows. I hope they do well, and they just might, as they seem to be pretty accessable to western culture. ALso, their music stands up so well on it's own, that even if it were all instrumental, it would still rock.

This an aged answer, but technically - yes they were involved in another anime. The Pillows played in an anime called "BECK", they make a sort of guest appearance by being animated into the show so, ta-da! The Pillows are mega-awesome!

Haha, that was pretty extreme. Well it's been like 3 years since my last post in here, so things have changed. First of all, I've taken interest in their other albums (not from FLCL) and looking back in the first post, I can't imagine why anyone could compare those two. Also, since my last post, I've grown to very much dislike Linkin Park.
But in response to Aburame Shino's statement - it's been a longgg time since most of these posts were made, since then I'm sure that the people who really appreciate the Pillows picked up another album or two. :)
