Custom Avatars

Some people either forgot this or never knew it so let me put this here. You get 1 custom avatar before 600 posts that's it you're stuck with that or one of the ones that are available for members to choose from. Please don't pm me every time you get an itch for a new avatar, I won't respond to them. Thanks.

After you have 600 posts, you have the option to upload custom avatars for yourself. However, the maximum size of your custom image is 120 by 120 pixels or 30000 bytes (whichever is smaller).

If you are worried about folks constantly uploading custom images to the server, why not prevent (i'm not too sure if vBulletin features that) file uploads and strictly get URL Hrefs instead? That way others need their own source of web storage without burdening AnimeAcademy's forum server.

All avatars are stored locally in the database no matter if they are uploaded or submitted by url, it's just how vbulletin works.

No, you're not understanding. You get one custom avatar before 600 posts, whether you have 1 post or 599, it doesn't matter. After 600, you can add a custom avatar whenever you feel like it as many times as you feel like it.

you don't. You have to wait till you get 600 posts to be able to use a custom avatar. Otherwise, you have a one-time only custom avatar change before 600 posts, and that's done by PMing either mugs or Corpse with the avatar you want to use.

if i get a costum, can i switch it back and forth between the costum and a standard? or would the custom be deleted or something wtvr if i change it back to a standard for a while?

If you switch back to a default, your custom gets deleted, and you can't switch back to a custom untill you reach 600 posts. Be carefull on deciding what custom avatar you want.

When you think about it though, avatars and signatures become like an identity. If you're changing it all the time, it will be hard for people to remember who you are.

With the custom avatars, do you have to upload your own avatar to the anime academy server after contacting mugs or corpse? or do you just tell them what you want and they find it for you?

I think you got his question wrong. He means when using the 1 time avatar change before 600 posts rule. To answer the question: you don't upload the custom avatar to the AA server, cause you can't. Mugs or Crapse uploads whatever you sent them, whether it be via e-mail attachment or directing them to where you avatar can be found online, for you. As for when you're over 600 posts, that's when you upload your own avatar (and yes, it still gets saved in the AA server even if you're using your own host)

Until you have 600 posts, you get 1 Custom avatar. to get that avatar, you must PM either Mugs or Corpse. Once you have at least 600 posts, you can upload a new avatar every day if you loke. The fact remains that, until you have 600 posts, you may have only one Custom avatar.

And if during that time you decide to change your avatar from the custom one to a provided avatar, the custom one will be lost forever. After that you must wait until 600 posts.

At first (well, not the very first, but I believe the beggining of AA v.02) Custom avatars was meant to be a sort of reward for people who stuck with AA long enough. Then, all the newbies started flooding Mugs' and Corpse's e-mail and PM boxes with pleas of being able to change their avatars to a custom one, so the one avatar change before 600 post rule came about. (sorry Grive if I misquoted your statement from the Lounge FAQ sticky from last year).

I'm not sure though, but I think just about anyone can use custom avatars ever since the lounge updated again, that is unless Mugs fixed that.

You have to PM or e-mail Mugs or Corpse with the picture you want to use as an avatar. Whether you e-mail it to them via attachments, link to the avatar, or hell, you can even drive it to their houses personally stored inside a 1.4MB floppy, you have to get it to them. You do not upload the avatars yourself untill you reach 600 posts.

For those who want a custom avatar after 600 posts:

No, members can only go up to 120x120. Profs. and mods can have up to 150x150. There is still a KB size limit though (I think 29kb for mods/profs., not sure about members).

one, the picture you want doesn't show (i think) and two, private message corpse or mugs. Erll, for one thing, you can't link images from your hard drive. You might want to upload it first to an image hosting site like Image Shack or whatnot, then try to pm Mugs.

Secondly, because there are people who already can use their own custom avatars before moving up the ranks, first test the waters and go to User CP at the top of the page, then Change Avatar. From there you can either chose to upload your avatar to the site from a http//. link or from your computer (thus saving you the trouble of having to upload your image to an image hosting site).

Thirdly, make sure your avatar is equal to or below 115 x 115 pixels and 29kb.

Here are the rules... again:

1) To have the ability to change your avatar by yourself you need 600+ posts. After 600 posts you can change your avatar when ever you want.
2) If you have less than 600 posts you can ask Mugs to change the avatar just once before reaching 600 posts.

Why is this so hard to understand is beyond me.

Max avatar size 115 square pixels. That means 115 pixels of height and 115 pixels of width.
