I was wondering if i am the only one who notices that in almost all anime and manga there is always a refernce to other ones..
For example in trigun there is a girl named meryl strife(cloud strife)..in FF9 in a shop on the wall is clouds sword...

basically im asking if anyone else has noticed this if so what?:Poke:

hmm.. I have noticed such things... and alot of games. (especially Lucasarts adventure games).. but not in all of them though.

i have also seen that kind of thing... For example I once saw a game called: MONKEY ISLAND. And the producers just made and add on the conversations, and during this they put some flashy text that said: THIS IS AN AD..... THIS IS AN AD, pretty comic though, Griveton can tell what about this ad was he has the game. But for another example in Crhono Cross is a store you can see a poster with some girl, and below the name of the band that made the music: RAdical Dreamers.

Well Monkey Island is one of those Lucasarts adventure games, and it had other references too, like Monthy Python stuff (NONE SHALL PASS!) , several Star Wars&Indy quotes, other stuff, the Monkey Island games are full of references to other movies, games, series etc.

FLCL is full of refs to other anime. naota-kun's father is really big into manga/anime, as well as fan-zines. some anime may also seem like they're referencing sometnig else by using the same name, but the name is actually fairly common (ie, not every character called 'akira' is a ref. to Akira . also, a lot of comedy anime throw in a bit of parody from time to time.

But, anyway, yes, in various anime series do they reference to other games and anime. In some as jokes, and in others as a reference, putting them as part of japanese culture (like Kamon, Naota's dad, who was an Otaku, part of the japanese culture).

That animal appears in almost all of Lucasarts games. In the n64 shadows of the empire, one of the badge-thingies you had to get in the level of the hover motorcycles (forgot the name), had the shape of the animal's head...

And BTW, in Trigun ep 3, the righ monopolist is called Schezar... There's an Allen Schezar in Escaflowne... Could be a coincidence, though...

I usually don't count names as references, now take the name Kasumi for example, I know at least 4 of those, Kasumi Tendo in Ranma ½, Kasumi in DOA2, Kasumi in Pocket Monsters (Misty in the dub), and Kasumi in the RK OVA.. now would all those following be based on one another ? (or at least on the Ranma one since she came 1st).. not really eh ^^" .. but now if there would be like oh say a... guy called Nerfherder.. that would clearly be a SW reference. ahem.. sorry.. On an unrelated note in one of the stages you face Dio in on the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure PSX game you can see posters for "Lucky Land" which is the name of creator Hiroaki Araki's production company.

there is reference in all the games some are more obvious as in monkey island than in other games, and or anime
