First thing's first, this is a forum on the internet, not a chatroom; you have plenty of time to write your posts the same way you would write a college paper.
Second, "Hi, I'm new" threads aren't really permitted. Not an exception in your case, it's just how we roll around here.
Third, glad you found this place in an internet swarmed with imposters. Welcome aboard.

Aw, don't worry about us being too mean! We'll treat you nice. We're all friends here, and AA is a place filled with politeness.
This is your first serious experience with the internet, huh? Well, I don't think it's a risk HERE, but you may want to be careful about other forums. They're breeding grounds/training grounds for newbie hackers. Be on guard, especially in chat rooms. NEVER give out too much personal information anywhere online (or any at all, if you can help it.)
Other than that, you really don't need to worry about much. Just don't click on popup ads, keep your antivirus running, and the internet will be your best friend.
Also, keep something else in mind about forums and chat. While you will not find it here, some forums and chatrooms are filled to the gills with jerks who will jump down your throat for no reason. We heavily regulate such bullsh*t, and no one here stands for it. So no worries, pal! You're among friends!

THIS.
Especially if you go to a site called Gaia Online, where 4chan has been executing a Grand Crusade. Sites like that will specifically tell you that they will never, never, never ask for your account information, so don't ever give your username or password to anyone.

Also, don't argue with people here unless you're willing to write a coherent explanation on why you feel that way. Some AAers are known to rip out people's intestines and feed them back their own crap.

I normally close these things, but I want to hear more about said Grand Crusade.
