Who else was planning on doing it this year? I don't remember, and I don't remember what thread we were talking about it in (or if that thread still exists). Who's all made it to the interview stage? I want to know who I'm up against. :p

Seriously, it would be cool to be part of the program with other AA members.

I didn't even try but I just wanted to say good luck! :D

I'm on the interview list, in LA unfortunately. I've heard this is the most competitive region to come from, so I'll be pulling out all the stops in my interview. Cupcakes anyone? You've forgotten what it's like to have no oranges...

I was but I decided to put it on hold for another year for a number of reasons:

- I want to travel to Hong Kong and the US
- Work opportunities/building up my resume
- Lack of money
- I couldn't contact my references in time (they were in Japan ironically)
- With NOVA shutting down, the competition for ESL teachers would be huge

Good luck Illjwamh and MeAndroo!

All good reasons, to be sure.

My interview is set for the 21st. I wasn't nervous at all before they told me this, but ever since I feel I may vomit whenever I think about it.

Good luck, MeAndroo. :D

Good luck to you too. I'm on the 20th and word on the street is they may ask for a mock lesson or teaching demo There's even the possibility of having to sing. Those Japanese and their karaoke. Good thing I'm a bit of a ham.

hey how did it go y'all?

yeah its pretty common for all the ESL recruiting companies for japan, to have u come up with a lesson and pretend to teach it!

i've always wanted to teach in japan, i studied there for 2 months in Okazaki, Aichi on my own. but i don't think i will be able to do it now . commitments. ciao!

I'm pretty sure I knocked it out. I had the people laughing and stuff. Did a mock lesson on cheese (frickin love cheese) and they made me sing. I chose "Bingo," you know, B-I-N-G-O and bingo was his name-o. They ask some pretty tough questions, but it's the kind of stuff you should expect going in. I'm pretty confident in getting chosen, but then again, you never know. Good luck Illj.

Well, I guess I'm f****d. I got a letter today saying I've been chosen as an alternate, which pretty much means I'm not gonna get to go.

How'd you do? Do you know yet?

I'm in. Didn't want to say anything in case you hadn't heard yet. Sorry, but at least you didn't get flat out rejected. My buddy didn't even get an interview.

The paperwork is a bit of a pain in the ass, so if I were you, I'd fill it out. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody decides not to do it.

Oh, I'm going to fill it all in and submit it. No reason not to. I'm just not gonna start packing or anything.

congrats to both you guys(being an alternate counts for something) unfortunately i can't do anything like this because japanese isn't taught in my high school and it would prolly be really hard to pick it up through college...

Why don't you just find a job with out JET? It's not as daunting as it seems with the internet here for you. And if you meet the eligibility standards for JET I would say most places would be happy to at least here you out in emails.

Don't know why everyone is so obsessed with using programs to do this stuff, a lot of the time a bit of detective work on your own will yield good results.

1) I don't have to worry about another Nova.
2) They tell you exactly what paperwork to fill out, and often, how to fill it out.
3) Strong alumni connections.
4) Less hectic days than many private companies.
