I'm starting to find Shizue Nana to be strangely disturbing to watch.

If you don't know who she is, she's a TV announcer who does a little segment at the end of each NANA episode.

She does the cutesy thing to an extreme I haven't seen in a long time. They are very, very exaggerated. Some examples of her mannerisms include the way she waves, the tilting of her head and a childish expression. At first, I thought it was kinda cute, but now it's disturbing. I'm wondering just how old she is and how much longer she's planning to act in that manner. It would be even more disturbing if she continued acting that way when she's 40...60...etc. I also wonder whether that's just her onscreen persona or if she's also like in real life.

According to the NANA subs, she's a professional Nihon TV announcer, which is kinda scary. From what I can tell, that's a national TV broadcast, so in the least, she's a minor TV celebrity. That makes me think there are a lot of young women in Japan who have the same mannerisms as her.

If she was 12 or something, it would be okay. But she looks to be in her 20's, and there is something really jarring and wrong about watching her act like she's a little girl.

Welcome to Lolicon.

It's not just about looking like a kid - it's also about acting and sounding like one.

She annoys me, so I don't watch her. I don 't even see the point of having some grown lady act like an anime character.

Well, girl anime characters tend to be voiced by adult women. ;D

I've always advised my male friends, to never try to see the real-life pictures of seiyuu...

"... THAT's the girl that voiced ... ?" After we watched a special on Saiunkoku. You'd think he'd learnt his lesson after finding out just how long Megumi Hayashibara has been in the business.

Next, real-life videos of their favourite gravure models....

She's creepy.

That one NANA episode where she was promoting those music things, and she began singing "I need jo looove". That was a little disturbing. And hilarious.

Episode 12, to be precise... and that specific action reminded me of my Japanese teacher. Kinda creepy but not as creepy as one in episode 17, where she sang the same tune... in a creepier way.

Oh, let's cut to the chase. She's cute but creepy.

It is fine if the audience she's speaking to are a bunch of children. But given the content of NANA, I highly doubt that. So yes, it perturbs me to no end what her exact intention (or director's) is with all these.

Must probably be paid alot to act like an idiot. Laugh at me all you want; I am laughing my way to the bank.

Whoa. I can't believe I'm the only one so far that finds things like this endearing. A 20 year old woman on TV acting like a kid while she broadcasts news is a gimmick, folks. Here in the US, we just run car crash after court case after war clip to get attention. Apparently the Japanese like to have people act zany. Frankly, I'd rather see a lady talk in a silly voice and tilt her head as she tells me the weather or something than being told for the umpteenth time that someone's house burned down, a city is flooded, or a rapist just got out of jail. (Uh, unless she happens to be talking about THOSE things in a cute voice, which would be slightly awkward...) But I must admit, election news would be much more interesting if the reporter did it while mocking a stereotypical French accent or something. Zut alour! Monseur Obama 'az pulled eento zee leed! HAHAA!
