I know my favourite but I was wondering what everyone elses favourite Japanese actors and actresses were.
I do like Tatsuya Fujiwara, two of his most famous roles were Shuya Nanahara in Battle Royale and Light in Death Note the Movie. I think he is a great actor and I want to see him in more movies soon.
I also like Takeshi Kitano also in Battle royale playing the part of Kitano I think he is a fantastic actor with a lot of expearience and talent.
I will edit when i can think of my favourite Japanese actress

Seijun Suzuki 80s regular Yoshio Harada put up some very excellent performances, he had a unique visual presence everytime he appeared on the screen. I'll also mention another Suzuki regular from his 60s-era, Jo Shishido, who also did a great job acting under such direction.
And why not Toshiro Mifune as well, he definitely deserves it! :D

Toshiro Mifune. =D
It takes Toshiro Mifune to make drunken deadly sick Yakuza work. It also takes Mifune to make the ultimate badass ronin work. *pose*
I'd also like to give an honourable mention to Chiaki Minoru. Always capable, but always in the background, from the disillusioned monk in Rashomon, to the happy "woodcutting samurai" Heihachi in Seven Samurai to one of the bumbling peasants in The Hidden Fortress, he always delivers the part, and seemingly happy gains and loses weight accordingly. *thumbs up* Unsung hero of the Kurosawa regulars I tells ye.
Also Takashi Shimura gets kudos for his performances in Seven Samurai as Kambei and the leading role in Ikiru. (That movie made me WEEP, WEEP I TELL YOU!)

Kimura Takuya, who seems to be in half of the J-dramas that I've seen... and who always impresses me.
Hiroshi Tamaki, who plays straight-man Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile brilliantly.
Ueno Juri, who played two completely different personalities in two different series so believably that I almost didn't recognize her from one to the other. That impressed me.
That guy from Arashi... Jun?
Matsumoto Jun?

Kimura fanclub ALERT!!! You must be one of those SMAP/Kimura partisans who sent hate letters to her wife Shizuka Kudo :O. You need to watch his latest film, Love and Honor. It's a must :nbleed:
My favorite actress is simply Nanako Matsushima. The reason is simple: Great Teacher Onizuka.
Ken Watanabe will go down as the next Mifune marks my words!!!!!!!

"Interesting conversations yes?" will forever keep him from reaching Mifune's level of awesome, that and the lack of a proper beard. XD Amongst a few other factors.
