View Full Version : ADV Anime Sale!

I really need to read my email more these days...

There's an incredibly large sale at the ADV Films site (http://www.advfilms.com/sale.asp) for anime that's sliced down as much as 75% (and since it's a Valentine's Day Sale, you even get a free gift I think). But I've been tardy with realizing this, and the last day of the sale is on the 16th, which gives everyone two days to take a look.

But just in case some of you guys have any money, I'll give examples of the deals that some of you could potentially be interested in.

Blue Seed boxset $24
The entire Bubblegum Crisis 2040 set $21
Chrono Crusade complete collection $36
Dai-Guard perfect collection $15
Kaleido Star collection $25
Pretear collection $25

There's a few others that I'm too lazy to list, so if you think there's something you might want that I'm not mentioning, feel free to take a look.

Is anyone else having trouble with the ADV website?

- The list of sale items only goes up to "C" titles. Looks like they forgot to put a link to subsequent pages.

- I couldn't find any page that has their shipping charges.

Help with either would be appreciated. Thanks.

I got to see the whole list, so try refreshing and wait. It's a long list. I can't help with the shipping thing, though.

Nadia is on there for $66. And this would be a great chance to pick up Kekko Kamen.

I bought Kekko Kamen last time they had a sale, that was worth a laugh. However, I bought the large Nadia collections as of late (because they came with the soundtracks, and compacted everything), though I did buy all the vhs tapes years ago through a similar ADV deal.

So yeah, I've been a frequent customer (hence why they email me anytime there's a sale).

Shipping is $9 for the first five items, then $1 for each additional item after five, a boxset counts as one item on that note

Sales Tax is just for local residents

Shipping may be anywhere from 1-4 weeks depending on item stock

Thanks. Reloading did the trick. Now that I can see the entire list...feh. A lot of these titles have been on clearance at RightStuf at the same or lower prices for at least two months (e.g., $45 vs. $54 for Nadia w/o vol. 8). I may avail myself to a handful of discs, but otherwise I'm unimpressed.

Now, if ADV did something like Geneon's 25 for $100 smorgasbord...

Whatever show-off (http://www.rightstuf.com/)! :p

So here's a better one if you're not satisfied! xD

But the ones I listed were the best deals, they're not all steals on the ADV sale, but some really are the cheapest I've seen (hence my examples).

If only I shopped at ADV... the sales seem tempting, but I'd rather not go to the site and look around.

Shi- last time ADV had one of these mega slaes I ended up spending $400. I think I'll pass this time around. Although that Chrono Crusade collection does look tempting...

Ha ha...well, you got me there. :D

To be fair, I guess "unimpressed" was too strong a word. It only seemed so compared to RightStuf prices. And $21 for the remastered BGC 2040 is a damn good price.

You're right with Nadia, but I did want to express that there was some real deals to be had, and the listed anime above are the steals I've noticed. There's more, but you'd have to be ambitious to find whatever it is you're looking for. And yes, I spotted Right Stuf's deal just as I was comparing prices! ;)

But the amount of cash I spent last time on ADV was around $150, not counting purchases from other websites for the Nadia Collections and Doomed Megalopolis special edition dvd (a personal favorite of mine...only $5 right now people!).

I think the largest blow an anime sale ever got from me was Animeigo's "Summer of Savings" from last summer in particular, I blew $1000 on tons of their dvds. Counting vhs copies, I think I own their whole anime catalogue (barring Super Deformed Double Feature and Genesis Survivor Gaiarth, which were well out of print). It was worth every penny to finish up UY and YUA respectively, alongside discovering Vampire Princess Miyu and catching up with Bubblegum Crisis. Last bit of history: at the end of the sale, Animeigo announced their license to KOR would expire, and thus I am glad I bought the dvds of that series when I did. Good times indeed...

Wow, that's a lotta cheddar. I don't think I've ever spent that much in one sitting for something that doesn't involve a motor vehicle.

I remember hearing about that here...oh, yeah (http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22644). :-)

And here ends today's "Moment of Irony"

That was the big story on the site when I discovered the whole "Summer of Savings" promotion. Still, can't argue with spending $1000 on anime, as I always seem to have something to watch as a result of that escapade. But I don't think I could nosedive like that again, that was just me being a little too ambitious with cleaning up Animeigo's stock right there.

Speaking of which, I want Yawara! xD

But no RahXephon and Macross

Nadia does look tempting considering how long it's been out of print

Milky... you are a bad, bad monkey. And right after I got my bonus from work too.

Zz, the key is boxsets. I didn't see too many of the complete boxsets over at Rightstuf (unless I'm looking in the wrong place, that site is a horrendous eyesore) and some of these sets do look awful cheap. And cheap=me.

Here are the picks I'm contemplating over:

Blue Seed: $24

Cromartie High School: $36

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu: $40

Kino's Journey: $24

Madlax: $74 (requires additional sites price check)

Voices of a Distant Star: $10

Kino's Journey is really tempting but I just bought Now and Then Here and There and I need to save money. I guess I'll wait for the next sale.

Agreed that RightStuf should overhaul their website. This (http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/jee1yeXW-Xd=7s-1fP/browse/outline/4/1455) is a more streamlined version of their closeout list, if graphically sparse.

Even before accounting for the free shipping from RightStuf ($49 and over on US orders), some of those ADV prices can be beat:

Blue Seed - As of this writing, you can pick up all four DVDs, new, individually from Amazon Marketplace sellers for $19, shipping included

Cromartie High School - $28 for all DVDs individually, from RightStuf

FMP Fumoffu - $36 for all DVDs individually, from RightStuf

Granted, these won't have the thinpak cases and won't come in a box, so it's up to you to put a value on these differences. Personally, ADV thinpak sets bug the hell out of me, so I don't mind the extra space taken up in exchange for the bucks I save.

Thanks, that helps a ton. Do love those boxsets tho, especially the non-thinkpak artbox sets, so I guess that makes me a capitalist at heart.

Looks like this next buy will have me divided between the two, you guys should make commision...

I like it all in a boxset myself, I hate having to look for individual volumes (I've been disorganized with my collection as of late), and I also agree boxsets just look nicer. I used to be the kind of person who would only buy an anime series if it was completely released because I hated waiting for future volumes to come out, but I've become more patient these days. Still, boxsets pull in "collectors" like myself, which can't always be good.

But thinpaks are pretty much just space savers, given you have no extras or linear notes to go with them (which is a bummer), so not wanting them is perfectly understandable. But in the same go, once again, that's why I like the thinpaks overall. Very cheap for collecting everything in one go, and not too demanding on one's shelf. But still, not as flashy as a regular boxset thanks to the lack of added material.

And if I'm a fanboy of the series in question, I will buy the deluxe boxset for it (Patlabor movies 1 and 2 boxsets were $150 together with loads of extras, and preordered the new Gunbuster set for an additional $50 soon after), or any other manner of a supreme over-the-top treatment if it is available. But I have to seriously like the series that much to do it.

And if I really don't care, they just stay on vhs, and I don't bother giving them the dvd treatment! :D
