View Full Version : Question on "Loveless"

I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this, although I think I'll try to make a post without apologizing, for once. (Although if I'm spamming here...I'm really sorry!)

Ehem... I have heard of this anime-manga called Loveless quite a few times. I have read about it on the mighty Wiki and read a couple reviews on it, even the AA review *gasp*. It seems like an interesting yet complicated anime with some philosophical elements to it. (which happens to be my favorite) Not to mention cat-ears and angst!

However, it is apparently...shonen-ai. I don't mind shoujo, I don't mind gays in general, but...shonen-ai is really something that I can't stand. So my question is this, is the shonen-ai factor something that can be ignored? Is it not very extreme? Or is the pain of the shonen-ai not worth it for watching the series? (As in, the series isn't very good in the first place.)

I thank you for your help! Sorry if it's a little confusing.

The shounen-ai presence is pretty strong. It's not Gravitation-level in that it's not the sole plot element, but it's more than just a side story. My memory might be faulty, though; I haven't watched it since its initial run.

Try watching it and if it gets too strong, bahlete it.

Well, all they ever did was kiss on several occasions... that's not such a big deal... right? (Aside from Soubi saying "I love you" to Ritsuka like a billion times...).

So, the uber-cheap complete collection of the series coming out in April from Media Blasters. Worth it? I've had my eye on this series for some time, and whilst I know it doesn't have a proper end as such, I'm still up for watching it. It looks damn pretty and I'm always up for a bit of shounen-ai and shoujo-ai in mah aniems as long as it's done well and there's a good story behind it.

If only it were dubbed also, then it'd be awesome (aside from having pretty characters).

Well, Japan accepted the idea of lesbianism/gay long before america did/has...(check out sailor moon for instance, Neptune and Uranus). The businesses probably found that a majority of people enjoy that kind of stuff...they might have wanted to boost their ratings...besides, we know that anime has more than just entertainment purposes, so it's not that far off to assume that most of the culture has been slighted by this effect.

Thank you for all your responces. I'm still considering whether or not to watch it. I think I'd be more likely if some other 'males' could stand to this series. xD

Really though, I don't watch anime because of romance, for the most part, I watch for the plot, action, adventure, characters, and especially philosophy. So like LadySage said, because it isn't the main, it should probably be okay...

Finally, to reply to LunarEmpress, I know that Japan has different standards to entertainment than I do, and I have nothing against homosexuality. It is just something I personally do not like to watch, even if it is just slight hints.
