Dirty Harry

The Wyndham has been changed into a Sheraton, the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel.
Here's the phone number: 1-410-752-1100
They're still honoring the reservations, but you might want to just check in and make sure your stuff is still there, especially if you may have lost your confirmation number.
Just wanted to let you guys know.

Well I should have called earlier all the cheaper hotels like this one and the Radisson are already sold out. Although it doesn't say so on the Otakon website.
Hey, I bet the airport hotels are still open, and that's all I care about >_>;; Cheapness FTW.

Well I don't have a car so location matters to me. :)
I ended up getting a room at the Holiday Inn near the Stadium. It's not right next to the convention center but they have a shuttle that runs there every hour.
Is it being held in August or July this year?! I'm freakin out! Could someone pleas send me a link to their official website please? Thanks so much in advance!

Hmm... Well, I guess I could spend a couple extra (hundred) for a better room >.> I wonder if I could bump up my current room.. If that's possible, I can guarantee my original spot will be taken in about 3 seconds lol.

Now that Otakon is getting closer I am just curious who is going this year. I haven't registered yet but it is very likely that I will be going. Mainly because I want to see Seki Tomokazu.
Anyways I've gone for 2 years and have yet to meet any Anime Academy posters. :( Hopefully I can change that this year.

Oh man.... he's the guy that did Kyle for Lunar: Silver Star Story. I SO have to see him now D:

But of course it would be great to meet you.
Anyways does anyone want to plan an AA meeting. I guess you guys always do that but I never seem to meet up with anyone.

If you want, you can shoot me, Mana, soh, DH or LS your cell #, so when we're all at the con, we can rendezvous. That's the way we did it last time. And it's totally worth it, if just because some of us have press passes and can get you into places. :3

The disks in my vertabrae have collapsed due to old age.
If anyone here is interested (and not still in line for pre-reg), a tradition of ours is to go to Paolo's Ristorante by the Inner Harbor for dinner on Thursday night after we pick up our badges and before press orientation (usually 7:00 pm). It's a nice place to eat and catch up. We're not hard to spot; just look for the group busting passed Otakon staffers at the main entrance like we own the place.
KiraraKim
06-01-2007, 11:27 AM
I would love to but I definitely won't be getting there until Friday.
Oy, but Thursday night is the best! That's when you see faces you haven't in a year, and the pre-Otakon buzz permeating Baltimore is palpable and electric. And a word of caution: Friday morning reg lines are the worst, lest you find a kindly soul with enough clout to get you through... if only such a deific being exists!
KiraraKim
06-01-2007, 11:43 AM
Well unless someone wants to give me a hotel room for Thursday I won't be able to make it. I also don't know if I can get off work then.
But I did go to Otakon for the last two years. I actually ended up coming a little later on Friday last year and the lines weren't bad at all (and they weren't really that bad the year before either.) I guess I just missed getting into the dealer room early.
Just set some time aside Friday or Saturday to meet with me instead. :cutie

Some of our group aren't so lucky to be bestowed with press passes Kirara, so they can probably wait with you in line. xD Hell, those of us with press passes might wait too, unless there's something really cool like a Haruhi panel going on at the same time. Then you're on your own. xD
Kain, is Alex coming this year too?

Well I think all the best panels are on Friday night and Saturday but you mean you aren't starting one on your own?
But really the pre-reg lines are never that bad (or maybe I just come at good times). Now the lines for certain events, autographs and getting into the dealer room at certain times that's a different story. :D

Yeah, but we're not sure if she can join us on Thursday yet. It depends on her schedule at work.

Only at certain times (like right when they open each day) usually you can walk right in.
lawl. My dear Vegan Boy was referring to:
For those unfamiliar with the wait outside of the dealers room at a large convention, I'll paint a portrait for you: thousands upon thousands of fans, many with cash in hand and drooling like Pavlovian dogs over their nice costumes, form a serpentine line that stretches as far as the eye can see. These eager consumers voluntarily wait in line long before the orgy of capitalism was to commence at noon. Our group would have likely suffered the same fate had I not been Kain. After blinding an on-duty security staffer with the glorious aura of my press pass and ushering in my comrades, we entered the cavernous confines that house the dealers room… and probably a fleet B-52 bombers during the off-season.
p.s. I slay me sometimes
Niner

Kain speaks the truth. I was there, and very nearly overcome with the awesomeness of his press pass wielding abilities.
I can only aspire to match a quarter of his fantastical power this summer with my open press pass.
... as we ventured further and further away from the BCC, I could feel the powers of my press pass waning as if suddenly struck in the back by a shard of kryptonite. By the time we reached the line outside of the bar at 6:30 pm, the press members in our group (Niner and LadySage from Anime Secrets, Mugs and I from Anime Academy) realized we had been reduced to the ranks of mere mortals... err, I mean, my charmingly inadequate peers!
Is it considered vanity that I should be so impressed by my own awesomeness?
KiraraKim
06-01-2007, 01:27 PM
Ah I see, how impressed I am that you can get into the dealer room without waiting in lines. It's great to have power for um one weekend.
But if someone can get me in the front of the line to get Seki Tomokazu's autograph now that would be impressive. Of course I plan to be reading Harry Potter while I am waiting.
I've been practicing my arrogance all year in hopes of living up to the AA press pass name. One can only hope I'll be up for the task.
Niner
06-01-2007, 06:27 PM
Perhaps Mana, if we were to combine our powers, it may come up to a fraction of Kain's awesome arrogance. Luckily, he'll be there to mentor us too, let us know if we're doing it right. :3
I don't think I'll have any time to be learning when I'm with Kain. I'll be too busy making sammiches and fetching chips ;_;'

HA! I would love to, but I have been in japan for the last 2 yearsish. School was too expenisive to afford another trip there by flight and now to get there would cost about 1500 plus 19hrs travel.

There is! Just call 410-385-1709 which is the B&N at the Power Plant and they will reserve it for you. You can pick it up at midnight. I am planning on doing this as long as there isn't something big going on at the con. Do it sooner than later.
Also can someone please confirm with me if there was or wasn't a Haruhi Suzumiya badge last year. Someone is telling me there was one last year. But I think I would remember this. It is driving me crazy. :(

So who thinks the Geneon panel is going to be shittier than it was last year? <____<
Unpossible. I can hardly fathom a scenario that would produce an inferior panel than last year's:
[Geneon mid-level management meeting]
Manager #1: So, anyone want to go to Baltimore this weekend to host the panel?
Manager #2: Can't. Bobby's peewee baseball game is on Saturday.
Manager #3: In-laws are coming to town, so while my impulse is to run far away, the wife would have me sleep on the couch for a month if I did.
Manager #1: Fine, we'll send the interns instead.
Manager #3: But then I'll have to fetch my own coffee!

Did you end up getting that Yuki figure Niner? :)
I ended up having a good time despite not being able to do everything I wanted because of schedule conflicts. I did manage to get Seki Tomokazu's autograph and go to one of his panels so my life is now complete.
And it was nice seeing everyone for a few seconds at the Harry Potter thing,
I liked Otakon being in July instead of August, but oh well. Not sure if I am going next year but I will probably book a hotel room just in case again.

She's standing on top of my monitor as I type. :)
Yeah, sorry we didn't get to hang out more, things were just so crazy and up in the air and confusing and ugh. Frantic was the flavor of the month for this year's Tak, at least for me. Maybe next year's will be better planned, so we'll hopefully all be there to see. :3

Lucky. I got confused trying to find the hall for the Saturday Seki panel and because I didn't know that they moved it up 30 minutes, I only got to see the last 15 minutes (it's better than nothing and the part I did see was great). And then I wasn't able to get his autograph...gah...but I did have a good time overall. Definitely want to go again next year.

I went to his Q&A panel on Friday but by the time I went down to get an autograph the line was already fill. So I skipped his main event on Saturday and waited for 2 hours to get in line to get the autograph. I think waiting that long was the only way I was able to get it. I am disappointed that I missed his second panel. But Otakon sets autographs up so that you can either go to the panel or get the autograph. When I went up to him I was so shy that all I could manage to say was thank you.
He was great at his panel on Friday, very lively and friendly. But some of the fans asked the most stupid questions.

Just a note that Mana and I made it back to Chi-town in one piece.
Looking forward to seeing everyone - or even more people - next year. Although, we may need to start doing smaller groups for dinner. Three hours at Hard Rock got messy.
Glad to see everyone got back in one piece. How was the flight back, Roark? What did you and Mana do to pass the time at BWI?
Roark
07-23-2007, 09:34 AM
The flight back was actually faster than advertised, since we hit a good tail wind.
The wait for the flight, well... turns out we didn't know you can't check luggage until 4 hours before a flight, so we had to wait around for a bit. Mana had Harry Potter to read, so that occupied most of her time. We wandered the overly expensive gift shops, got a rather large dinner, and made fun of Piano Squaw or whoever that guy that hijacked the Eminence concert was.

To clarify, for the viewers at home, not THAT type of spit.
After the cluster**** of the tapas place last year, I'm done doing the entire dozen-or-more-people dinner thing. Plus, I could only hear people sitting directly to my right side anyway.

I ended up walking around to talk to people at Hard Rock, since I was sitting way at one end. I'm glad I went just to actually talk with Mira for more than 30s, and to see Bread get drunk on attention.

Got back from Otakon last night. Surprisingly, we ran into no traffic (with the exception of the Lincoln Tunnel), so we got back much earlier than expected.
Just wanted to say thank you all for such a swanky time. Bread, Mana, Sage, Roark, Niner, Erigion, Sohryu, Tyrdium, DH, DH's mom, it was great to meet you all for the first time. Hope to meet up with all of you again in the future. ^_^
And remember kids, as we learned from the Kamen Rider screening, don't go near any "freak museums in the demon corn!"
See you at Otakon '08.

Although, we may need to start doing smaller groups for dinner. Three hours at Hard Rock got messy.Hard Rock was one of the highlights of my weekend. Who knew that they made a novel off of Hard Day's Night? And they had CHUCK BERRY'S GUITAR. I'd like to hear Haruhi play God Only Knows on that thing.
Seriously, thanks for all the fun guys. I never knew that sitting in an unkosher restaurant and sipping water for hours can be so much fun. I definitely plan on returning next year, if I can swing it. Having the opportunity to listen to Bread for an entire weekend is just too entertaining an opportunity to pass up.
Only if you keep brining your mom.Word. I never thought that the idea of a convention goer traveling with his mom could be so damned cool.
Btw, Sage, thanks for taking care of the hotel room and all the logistics involved. It's thanks to you that I was able to go (since you offered a hotel within walking distance, horizontally at least).
So who's got pictures?

I didn't get to see anybody~~ My friend got sick so we wound up going there kind of late each day because she couldn't get out of bed in the morning ._. well I'll definitely be going again next year so maybe I can see you guys then.
Only if you keep brining your mom.
Mama Harry is the coolest Otakon mom evAr... I mean, tied with Elmira, of course!
As of right now, we're planning on staying in the Inner Harbor next year, which would be a first since we've always stayed at BWI in the past. The convenience of walking to and fro may be worth the added expense, we'll see.

Hay deudz.
Bread and I got here around 12 hours ago, after 15 hours of travel time (ARRRGH), including a five-hour delay. It's all my fault; I was the one who said I "didn't want to spend six hours in an airport." I guess my jinx combined with Bread's curse (so not broken) to make it so.
All travel issues aside, I think it's safe to say that this year's Otakon was even better than last. Everyone was totally awesome (don't let Eri's tough act fool you, he's really a big teddy bear) and the fun just didn't stop. Highlights? Hard Rock Cafe and the infamous Bready Special, the Eminence concert, and Funi announcing Ouran.
The fact of the matter is that the con experience, in many ways, depends on the people you're with. The con could have consisted of Piano Squall hosting every panel every day and I still would have had an awesome time with the company I had; fortunately, good con combined with great people to make for a total blast.
And to Kain: Yes, the added expense is totally worth it. Being able to go back to the hotel whenever you need to and to just roll out of bed and walk two blocks, if that, to the con is great.
Bread: I wanted to thank everyone for making this experience such an enjoyable one. Special thanks go out to Dirty Harry and Mama Harry for making sure that it didn't take a ten car pile-up to get me to the BCC. To the rest of you, it was an absolute blast, and I'd have called you each out by name, but by now everyone else has done that for me. The Bready Special is freaking legendary, and if it's not mentioned in at least ONE con report, then the media really DOES have something against me.
And to all you smarmy bastards (Sage included) waving around your fancy-schmancy green bookmark press passes, just know that it's because of you guys that this place and others like it are doomed to obscurity. In the name of a press pass and front seat panel privileges, I will bring the noise. www.betterthanASandAA.angelfire.co.uk is coming soon and with a vengeance. Ask for YOUR reversible business card/42 cent drink coupon today! [LadySage edit: Mira, if you still have that, you MUST scan it in!]
Oh, the Bready Special is going in my con report, since it was my day and all. So no worries :D

I looked into it today. The reason why next year is going to be so turbulent is because I will have finally graduated university and I'm still undecided on which path to take. If I choose to stay in Australia and do post-grad work, it's not a matter of making time but having the money. This is a pretty easy fix: work more. Thus, Tak Tak here I come. If I go over to Japan to teach kids English, it's not a matter of having the money but having the time. I found out today that the summer break in Japan is from July to September which means August is free. Thus, Tak Tak here I come.
Basically, the two biggest hurdles for not coming to Tak Tak next year are cleared so it'll take something big to stop me from getting there.
I'll be there too! :O
Will the world survive?
In all likelihood, no.

Well not that I don't think it would be great if you came to Otakon but I am not sure if the convention is worth spending all the money to come for. If you are going to be in Japan I would spend my vacation time there exploring the country.
I mean if you are coming to visit the US and go to Otakon on top of that this is one thing but just to fly over here for Otakon, I'm not sure if it is worth it.
Although I do think it would be really cool if you could come to Otakon in 2008.

Debbie Downers! I wasn't trying to compare it to other cities. :D I know it's not the coolest city ever, nor was I trying to suggest it was. Just saying it is what you make of it. So if 2-20 wants to go to Otakon and just stay in the BCC because Melbourne or Sydney or wherever the hell else he's been are way cooler than Baltimore could ever hope to be then that's his loss! LOL sorry for my negative attitude. It's probably because even before Otakon I traveled to Baltimore a million times with school, parents, etc.
I do enjoy Otakon of course. And I do think the BCC is a good place for it because it is a nice sized convention center. The BCC is also relatively close to the harbor and cheap places to eat so it is convenient in that sense as well.
But as for the city itself I guess I am not a big fan of Baltimore. Although usually with Otakon you are so occupied with the convention that it doesn't really matter. :)
