Hi there, I live in the UK (London, precisely) and have been on the scene here for a number of years now.

I went to AmeCon last year (it's 2nd occurrence - it's a fairly new con) and had good fun! Once they've got tickets on sale, I'm sure their forum will be up and it's always a good idea to get to know some people on there beforehand, read the countless threads that will come up about con etiquette, events, and "remember to wash!!", and generally get an idea about what the con will be like - so you can be less nervous ^^ Remember, most of us are just as geeky, and we all had our first con sometime!

There are other events going on in the UK, that aren't as overwhelming as the larger weekend cons. For example, London Expo is on twice a year in London and covers sci-fi and anime (lots of cosplaying too), but is more merchandise orientated. There are other events/expos in the midlands and north too. Also, try seeing what people are like on the various forums. UK-Anime (www.uk-anime.net) is one I'd recommend for information and friendly people, and Anime-Europe (www.anime-europe.com) or whatever it's called now has a photo gallery from past cons as well as an established forum.

Most importantly, have fun! ^_^

I think I might be going to AmeCon, although it's quite a while away for me.

I don't know if this'll be a problem for you, but some anime conventions have strict age limits. There was an age limit at Auchinawa in Glasgow last year that required you to be above 16 and I don't think I saw anyone there that could've been any younger.

Oh, I didn't spot that, gg Hamsworth ^^;

Just double checked with someone, and I'm afraid it is over 16 only, sorry :( AyaCon used to allow minors, but it's such an insurance nightmare, only Minami I know of now allows over 12 (with guardian I think). There are still lots of expos and events you can go to in the country (Memorabillia, London Expo etc), and I haven't looked into some of the newer summer cons like FuyaCon.

If you want any advice, please give me a PM ^^

It means I don't think you can, at all, guardian or no. However, have a check on their forum when it goes up/when they start selling tickets, as I'm not 100%.

Just asked the chairman directly, and it's 16+ only. Sorry :(
