I am not sure how many people are familiar with this series but it is one of Rumiko Takahashi side stories about a nun and a boxer that she started in the late 1980's. Well the last chapter just came out and for those who say that Takahashi has not written a good ending since Maison Ikkoku well you have to give her credit for this one because this was an excellent ending.

Here is a summary of the last chapter I grabbed from a different message board:

Wow... what an ending. Very emotional stuff. Angela is forbidden from going to see Kosaku's title match, where he is fighting to get Angela out of debt (which her aunt ran at the host club). Kosaku is giving some good blows, but getting knocked around pretty badly, but refuses to give up.

The other two nuns go into the cloisters to check on Angela to find her room is empty, she's escaped to go see Kosaku fight. In the ring Ryusei is taughting Kosaku and asks him if he's only doing all of this for the money. Kosaku winds up and gives him a massive uppercut and yells out, "No... I'm doing it for love!!" just as Angela walks in to the arena.

The referee counts and Kosaku wins the match and the title. As he steps out of the ring with the belt drapped over his shoulder Angela walks up to him, and he happily greets her and is surprised to see her there. Angela takes her habit off and tells him she's not a sister anymore with tears in her eyes. Kosaku starts to call her sister again, but stops and calls her Marie, which shocks Mukoda and the others.

Later Angela goes back to the convent to say her goodbyes to the nuns and Mother Abbess. As she turns to leave she hears Coach Mukoda shouting at Kosaku from his bicycle, while Kosaku tries to grab a quick bite to eat. Seeing Angela, Kosaku stops and she tells him that they'll head back together.

Must be a Godsend -- my sister just sent me in the mail a CD with volumes 1-3 on it. I love this series. It combines boxing and fluff, my two favorite things.

I really wish Takahashi would learn to give her characters conclusive endings, though. "We'll go back together"? Dammit, that's not much of a payoff for all that trouble . . .

I disagree I think it is very conclusive

She gave up being a nun for him I don't know what is more conclusive then that. We'll go back together is just further showing that they are a couple now.

Ah, One Pound Gospel, how I love thee :D Glad to see that you weren't forgotten in the midst of all the Inuyasha. I wonder if a conclusion will mean that Viz will pick it back up...
