I know about the 600 post thing, but I'm confuse. Could I make my own avatar and upload before the 600 post.

No. After your first avatar change, FOR WHICH YOU NEED TO ASK MUGS, you need 600 posts to change it again yourself -- no matter the image's source.

I believe that you can still PM Mugs for a custom avatar once before hitting the 600 post mark.

I'll help, Cutom avatars are images that are not in the Edit Avatar (http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/profile.php?do=editavatar) thing in the User CP. To get a Custom avatar ask Mugs or Corpse for one, as long as it meets the 120x120 limit, only mods and such can get up to 150x150 size limit. You can only get one C A through this method once and only once. Then when you hit 600 posts, though like last year it was a little messed up and people at like 300 were able to get them, you can have any C A as long as it hits the 120x120 size limit and 58.6 KB as well (whichever smaller).
