Okay, every year for my birthday I blow hundreds of dollars on manga. This year I'm really looking for a few new series (or not-so-new) of really good shojo manga. I'm really into Nana, Paradise Kiss, Kare Kano, and Peach Girl just to give some information. Is there anything worth while that I'm missing?

Tramps Like Us is first on my trying list. Is it good?

Hmm. It's mahou shojo, but it has a nice love story: Full Moon.

I didn't care too much for Peach Girl.

Try Hana Yori Dango (boys over flowers), MARS, Confidential Confessions (the first series), Socrates in Love (highly recommended!) and Hot Gimmick for eye candy (it is a shame the end was a bit of a cop out)

Grargh. The whole of Hot Gimmick pissed me off so much. I naturally would like to vote against recommending it to someone. MARS is a definite yes from me though. =D Awesome story, great art. (Man, Imma add Fuyumi Soryo as one of my favourite mangakas ever. The way she draws the human figure is too enviable!) At least with MARS you wouldn't feel like you got jipped in the end.

Skip Beat! has me hooked as of... last weekend. XD It's certainly fast-paced and entertaining. I liking the romantic development in the manga: major swoonage, and much cleverer than I expected it to be. I didn't like the drawing style at the beginning but whatever the mangaka wanted to show comes across well enough.

I haven't read all of Tramps Like Us, but the premise is interesting. Sumire/Lorelei is a very robust sort of female lead. The romantic traingle that takes place kind of frustrated me at one point, which stopped me from reading on.

Dhurr. I'll check out Nodame Cantabile further that volume 1. Otherwise, this manga looks very promising too. The artwork's a little plain though. :<

Socrates in Love the manga was good, but the novel is a must read. I personally preferred the novel to the manga. (and the tv series is better than the novel...imo).

I like Kaze Hikaru (something that I recommend and was in the Shojo Beat magazine until a few months ago), but it's drawback is that it can be slightly dialogue-heavy at times and the names of some events/people can be hard to remember (at least for me...)...but it was turning into a really nice historical romance. It would've been nice if they had kept it in the magazine...sei x okita=life...'twas replaced by another manga that's okay for a romantic fix, but gets cheesy quick...

I also recommend: Alice the 19th, Imadoki (tis only 5 volumes and it's a sweet story), Crimson Hero (i don't know if you'd want to read sports manga...it's one of the things that I read in the shojo beat magazine...)

Thanks, all. I do believe I'll be doing a lot of browsing. <3

I'm actually reading the Socrates in Love (novel). The manga preview I recieved in Shojo Beat was very lovely, I just may pick that up. I'm also thinking about MARS, but of course, a friend of mine has that entire series so I may just "borrow" it. XP

I actually liked the Socrates in Love manga more than the novel. I guess because you don't really see manga touch that type of topic. However there are a lot of novels that are similar. The way the novel was written also felt too juvenile to me. Of course the manga wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the novel so for that I give it credit.

I think I may check "Beauty Pop" out. It looks like something I could easily get into. I like the graphics, and manga centering around the fashion industry is just my thing. Thanks!

I'm also looking for a long romance series, like Kare Kano.
