For those of you who don't know, AA Member Mira (http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/member.php?u=1832) is the Director of Publicity for Sakura-Con, a large anime and Japanese culture convention held in Seattle. A few months ago, I began working as her underling in the position of Newsletter Coordinator, basically in charge of writing and designing their now-electronic newsletter.

I've really enjoyed working with Mira and all the various convention staff. It's an honour for me to be able to work for the convention circuit and to do something positive for the anime community that I love so much. I'm sure that any of you lucky enough to be able to volunteer for a convention know exactly what I'm talking about ;)

I've yet to have the pleasure of attending Sakura-Con, but I hope to be able to this coming year. We have a lot of great guests and events lined up, and even more coming in the works.

I hope that some of you out there are planning on attending this year :D

It might be a bit early to bring it up still, as the convention is in April, but it's always best to plan early ^.^ I figured now would be a good time to start up a thread as the first newsletter, a project completed by Mira, Roark, and me, has just been released, along with a slew of guest and event information.

For all interested parties, a link to the convention website can be found in my signature, as well as right here: http://www.sakuracon.org/index.php

Bloody impressive newsletter. Huge improvement from past publications I've seen from SC. Nice to hear this whole new slew of news regarding guests and the such as well. :)

This will be my 5th year of attendance, I hope to see you or other AA'ers there. :icon_danc

Thanks, I think the newsletter turned out pretty swell myself, and it was fun to do :D

I look forward to being able to meet you there ^.^

Ah Sakura Con... I wish I had been there earlier this year. That way I wouldn't have had to wait 6+ months to get my AMV prizes... but when they did arrive, I was stunned. Chair is freaking awesome, so I can only say good things about Sakura Con!

You'll be coming this year, though... right? Pretty please? >.>;

... Umm... I want to... but umm... I'm aiming for either ACen or AWA :XD:

I can only save up so much money for an overseas trip :p

Well, in that case, make it ACen >.>;

But why those two? o_o;

AWA = AMV centre of the universe. Lots of friends are gonna be there.

ACen = just as many friends coming over for some sort of fun time :p

At this rate, it may end up being AWA more than ACen due to financial reasons though. AWA being much later in the year means I'll probably have enough money saved up but with AICon (another Australian con here) looming ahead, my finances might be stretched.

Sakura-Con 2007 will actually be the first anime convention I attend, ever. I'm looking forward to it; even planning on submitting an amv or two. (Incidentially, Shino, I'm familiar with your work- the first Anime Academy Heroes was an especially interesting concept.)
