Some favorite 80s tunes of mine, the decade I grew up around (beside the early 90s with the grunge scene).

"She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby (The Golden Age of Wireless, 1982) - Absolutely crazy sounds mixed with some quality funk and an old man chiming "Science!" every now and again. Catchy, and worthy of its vintage.

"What You Need" by INXS (Listen Like Theives, 1985) - From the way this song begins, to the sudden way things clash together into a catchy pop stream, this anthem talks about surprisingly interesting subjects (how people live).

"Still Life in Mobile Homes" by Japan (Tin Drum, 1981) - Quirky English group Japan kept their Asian sound mixed in with the current New Wave tinkerings of their period. Still Life had some neat electronic textures, excellent bass, and a decadent vocal delivery.

"Lorelei" by Cocteau Twins (Treasure, 1984) - Dreamy textures of guitar work mixed in with heavenly sounding vocals, perfect music for losing one's self.

"Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds (Once Upon a Time, 1985) - This was when their delivery was bold, when everything was supposed to nail the listener with a barrage of driving sounds and sensations. A title accurate to its sound.

"Keep Feeling (Fascination)" by The Human League (Fascination, 1983) - Catchy as 80s synth can allow, all jamming together with the unusually stringed together vocals, all strangely mechanical. I love it.

"Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant (Killer on the Rampage, 1982) - The coolest song ever made. Reggae like I've never heard it before.

"To Live and Die in L.A." by Wang Chung (To Live and Die in L.A., 1985) - The soundtrack to the film of the same name had a great title song, and it just clicked with it's soft feel.

"1999" by Prince (1999, 1983) - If I had to pick one Prince song...this would one would barely edge out the rest, it just kicks itself into high gear too efficiently.

"King of Pain" by The Police (Synchronicity, 1983) - The Police had a solid collection of songs, but this one came together with its clashing instrumentations.

I've got others, but this is the list I can currently come up with at the moment. Feel free to give me any of your favorites in the meantime!

XTC is good stuff Fugupinkeye (King for a Day was another favorite), and so is Rush's material Lucky (Spirit of the Radio and Limelight are awesome). By the way, a member of XTC plays harmonica at the beginning of Thomas Dolby's "Europa and the Pirate Twins" (can you tell I'm a big fan of the latter?)

Got a huge Madonna fan in here too! Where's "Open Your Heart?" ^_^

Not familiar with Violent Femmes unfortuantely...but I hear they're good!

And Sohryu's got the 80s rock thing goin' on!

I made sure to update my current list at the top too (came up with more gems).

Nice to see the varied tastes!

You got it, babe. To bad it wasn't until the 90's that her music reached was the epitome of her career. XD

I also liked:
Sade
Cyndi Lauper
The B-52's
Pat Benatar
The Bangles
Poison

Sade is excellent! I just love "Smooth Operator," "Paradise," and "Hang on to Your Love." Don't even get me started on "Love Deluxe"

The B-52's are definitely entertaining too, I don't think they've made anything I could object to...

:jawdrop: That's it!? No Art of Noise!? No Talking Heads!? No Hall and Oates!? No Prince!? No MJ!? Not even a little Janet Jackson!? Not a pinch of Depeche Mode or New Order?! What's your problem!?

xD I'm just kidding! :lol2: B-52s rock the cosmos!

There are a few things I like here and there, but for the most part, I hear to much 80s music at work over our "Staples Radio" for me to enjoy it.

Wal-mart - "The home of everything Phil Collins"

Some days I just want to drive a stick through my head when I hear "Sussuido" for the billionth time. It's still a good song, but not as much so many times later...

I hear ya!

I'm actually a huge Rush fan. >< And Limelight is my Favorite song by the band. Then The Trees, Distant Early Warning and Fly By Night.

I have never liked Tom Sawyer, no matter how many covers are done of it. It's just not my thing; and neither is Working Man.

:D I know it's not 80s music, but on the subject of rush, I also enjoyed "2112" and "Closer to the Heart." Back to 80s Rush, I'd say "Freewill" and "Superconductor" were some favs also. I didn't think "Tom Sawyer" was bad, but I agree they've made way better songs. Limelight is a good choice for favorite, mine is probably "Spirit of the Radio" or "Subdivisions."

Neil Peart is an awesome drummer...

And they're a great live band too. ^_-
