Daaamn, the whole no liquids/gels on an airplane paranoia rather sucks as we all know, but I never really realized how little or how concealable these binary explosives can actually be until I saw this slightly propagandistic film on metacafe.

PH34R Rit, PH34R!
I'm not saying this is changing my opinion entirely, but it does make tight-ass security slighlty more justifiable in my eyes.
This pretty much proves that shit can get in regardless of what other pointless things they begin to ban though, short of nude-flight.

(Fears the day he would have to strip himself naked before boarding a plane)
Ugh! Bleh! Agh!
And hopefully they don't surgically implant bombs into themselves (though we are talking about terrorists, so who knows), that would be scary! Imagine what security would be like with that kind of scare!

Remember, Camembert is now a banned hand-luggage cheese because it has the same density and, er.. kneed-ability as C4. o: CHEESE EXPLOSIVES!

Ugh.... Don't get me started on this whole airport security thing...
I just got back from London, and the check-in and security lines were awfully long at Heathrow. I was almost late for my flight because of all the time wasted there. I feel sorry for the people that were told to checkin their baggages again because they were carrying liquids/cosmetics or have too much (which meant they had to line up all over again afterwards.)
Can someone informative let me know how a little plastic bag is supposed to counter terrorism? No one at my local Canadian airport would tell me why my liquids must be is a small translucent plastic bag to bring with me on a plane...
Oh and I agree, if there's a will there's a way. If the terrorists wanna kill you, they'll find a way to do it regardless :p.

This explosive is hardly anything new. Volatile substances like Logan's paste have been around for years and requires little more than physical disturbance to make it explode.
While I like the video because of my love for science in all its forms I don't like the PH34R factor of this media.
If anything, I fear more the fact that mobile phones are going to be allowed to be used on airplanes. Imagine! The annoying ringtones are just the tip of the iceburg.

I'm not sure it's logan's paste, since that stuff tends to explode at a slight breeze. Although, it does seem to match physically.
I do wish they'd given the name of the compound used, since that would let people make valid judgements. As is, we have a video of an exploding watermelon that, while kinda cool, is meaningless as far as this "explosive" goes, since it could be very doctored </tinfoil hat>
Also, I'm pretty sure chemical sensors pick up logan's paste, and it's rather dangerous to transport and apply (don't want to risk setting stuff off prematurely, and subduing someone in flight mixing the stuff would be easy, since it's rather noticeable).

I did notice that they claim the watermelon is "vapourised", when it was pretty cleary just blown off the tape. But it still is surprising for so little, and could probably easily knock out a window or something.
But still, (ballpen != liquid) = waste of everyone's time.

Hm, now that I think about it, the entire plastic bag and no liquids thing IS rather silly concidering, well, by now the "terrorists" are by now working hard on another method to blow up planes if they're still hellbent on doing so.

Maybe someday security will go "Sorry, we have to perform an autopsy on you to ensure your safety." And after autopsy: "No explosives found in innards. Clear! Have a night flight , Ma'am."

Of course it never occurs to anyone that Al Qaida never uses the same methods twice.......
The bigger problem in the US is the easy access to firearms by the assorted local and foregin crazies:(

even if Al Qaida did use the same methods twice we are still screwed, true they are making a huge deal about it and tightening all the security, but they aren't really enforcing it. i just went on a plane a couple weeks ago and i had a my contact case in my pocket (i had yet to put them on and intended on doing so on the plane) and they didnt even sayanything or take any notice of it. i could of had frikin whatever in there and they would of had no clue.

I'm sure it'd be far easier if they just asked you to lay down on the X-ray conveyor belt and just be scanned along with your luggage. Of course this would only work for people with a normal or skinny body build. o:

Afterwards they give you a quick stitch job as you're holding your stomach together on the plane! Mouse is right! To the Trains!

:eyebrow: Never know with terrorists, in Ryu's case it is true that they'd be dead anyways! But the trains could be worse in this respect...and don't ask me where the bombs would be shoved!
Where do we go!? :sweatdrop

I didn't mean to suggest this particular mixture was Logan's paste. My point was merely that volatile explosives have been around for decades whilst this video seemed to imply that this was a [i]"Brand new terrist threat!"
Everybody should just walk and swim from now on.
POOL's CLOSED.
But seriously, aren't people forgetting that the majority of deaths in the biggest terrorist attacks were people not on public transport?

The whole security system in airports is ridiculous and inefficient. There are few that could or would refute that. Last time I flew I had to take off my shoes, belt, watch and all my jewelry. Just to be processed by a TSA agent who was earning MAYBE $15,000 an year. Does anyone really believe they are too vested in doing a thorough job at that rate? It is all about looking like they are doing something about the 'problem.' Question is: is there really as much risk of another hijacking as we are all made to believe? There seems to be one factor that no one is addressing and that is the new mentality of the average airline passenger. There was a situation in Germany? recently in which the passengers of a commercial airline refused to fly with two fellow passengers who were speaking in Arabic. The two men had to be removed. There is little doubt now a-days that should anyone behave suspiciously on board the fellow passengers would recact decisively. This does not, of course, matter if the bomber is behaving normally. But it is hard to believe that anyone about to blow themselves to oblivion would appear calm and collected.

And you would only be able to fly if you didn't intend to have kids.
