View Full Version : Pan's Labyrinth
I saw this movie yesterday and it's awesome. At first the movie looks like a fantasy story about a girl that's the lost princess of a magical kingdom and she must prove her heritage by passing 3 test. But dont let the beginning of the movie fool you, what at first looks like a fairy tale story is soon change by the disturbing events of the war during Spain in 1944, so it's more like watching 2 stories in 1. By the end of the movie you wont be sure if it was a either a sad or a happy ending.

Same.
:]
The trailer is interesting enough to hold my attention, which is a feat. I'm known for not watching movies, but I might have to see that.
Ahh, so that's what 7Raven7 meant. This is a spanish movie(spanish is in from SPAIN), so no american actors on this one. The movie will be released around December on the US, 1 more month to go.

i'm still trying to figure out whether it's a good or bad ending too. was it really just her imagination? because a lot of the scenes are totally unreal but then if you look at what happens, she wouldn't/shouldn't have been able to predict the way things occur..but yeah, this is an awesome movie even just for the visuals.

Agreed...either the ending was a very happy escape or a really raw deal. It is hard to say I enjoyed this movie but I definatly liked it and was glad to have seen it.

Personally, this movie just rocked my cradle and I would rate it 9.0/10 myself. Heck, my sig/avatar is self-explanatory already, isn't it? Yes, critics have questioned the originality of the movie concept because it contained similar traces of The Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland and director Guillermo del Toro's earlier Hellboy too.
However, I was still mesmerized by how those different elements blended together perfectly. Concerning how the movie seems to be 2 stories combined, to me it's more of how Ofelia's quest to regain her heritage is reflected to her present human life. Plus, the abundance of symbolism used within the movie is simply outstanding. The movie eventually subliminally teaches alot of life morals too through Ofelia's 3 tasks.
Most of all, I liked how del Toro resorted to making this Spanish film without any Hollywood elements to ruin the whole atmosphere (not intending to say that Hollywood ruins everything). This wickedly-beautiful and bittersweet movie is something people shouldn't pass watching and I strongly urge anyone to watch it... ASAP.
