Since it is almost Halloween, what are some well known Japanese monsters that are well known with children?

Gojira, to be exact. =D Then there's Gamera, Mosura, King Gidora, Baragon, Angirasu, Varan, Mekagojira, and so on and so forth.

Less well known would be monsters of myth, like the kappa, Orochi, oni, karakase and many many more. >.>;;

I'm surprised that noone has said Pokemon yet. They're the most evil monsters from Japan...and kids love em.

Their's the vampire-like shuten-doji, the swamp lovin' kappa, the fearsome oni, the angry spirits of your ancestors when you do something bad, and the beautiful but creepy snow maidens. Japanese folklore is filled with creepy and strange monsters, and that's not taking into account many creatures introduced by modern Japanese film and manga.

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!

Hell... Let's just go with the traditional oni or maybe just some goblins... Everyone knows that right? Or maybe we could go with, I don't really know what its called, but I know that it's a fox with 9 tails in all...

The Kyuubi, nine-tailed fox demon. Anyway, the best costume to pick would be one so tremendously horrific that you can get kids to drop their candy, thus eliminating the need to (hit/kick/power bomb) them to get it and possibly face the wrath of a chaperone. Baseball bats hurt.

Technically, not a demon. It's a fox that gains magical power as it ages. It's a demon when it does something evil.

"Kyuubi" literally just means "nine tails".

They've already been said but yeah various types of Oni, dragons, and
various cute things that end up killing you if you underestimate them.
Yuki-Onna is probably one of the ones I'd be most afraid of O_o

That said, the Sunakake-baba is made of sheer awesome. An old hag that appears, throws sand at you, laughs, and disappears. =D How can you NOT love that? XD

Kami is actually the word for god in Japanese, and usually refers to the gods of Shinto, not all of whom are baddies
