I've actually wanted to see this one as with many of the anime that have debuted this fall season. I've only read the summary and plan to watch the first episode right now. I'll have a comment on it later. Please feel free to comment if you've seen it yourself.

Well... episode number 1 is for the most part a setup issue. We get to meet a good chunk of the characters that will be involved in the series. It is interesting to see that the premise revolves around so many different type of "ghost hunters", but if you exepct this to be a seriously spooky type of anime, you will have to look elsewhere. This is for the most part more of a "thriller" type series than a real scarefest.

Unless they completely mangle it, I'm on board for this one. I'm a fan of the manga... or what I've read of the manga, since finding it is starting to prove difficult and releases are rare and slow.

I really liked this episode and the setup. An anime about paranormal investigations that doesn't morph into a fighting/action series would be very refreshing. The different hunters and their angles on things makes it a lot more interesting; I think the show has exactly the right sized cast assembled.

Well, they sure managed to pack a full cast in for the full episode. I agree about the setup and would rather enjoy seeing where they plan to take this series.

i like the balance between serious and comic scenes. If it doesnt turn out to be yet another ghost of the week, it has potential to be great.

Oooh, I like this show. The OP and ED themes were so perfect. I need to give them another listen, but I think it was the ED that I found particularly good. Mai and Shibuya are interesting characters and I like the direction this is headed.
Well, they sure managed to pack a full cast in for the full episode.
I had this same thought. As soon as I was getting comfortable watching the two "main" characters get to know each other, they go and introduce four more. But it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. They all, hopefully, have something to contribute to the mystery of this school building haunting. Though, I could do without Mai's classmate, the weird one with the glasses. For some reason I find her more annoying than anything. I have a feeling she'll be around for awhile though. I'll just have to get used to her. -_-
i like the balance between serious and comic scenes.
I agree. I was happy to find this show wasn't going to be taking itself too seriously and the balance is just right. It's humorous and yet spooky at the same time. Love the Australian guy even if I can't fully appreciate his Japanese dialect like a native speaker. The other characters' reactions are enough to understand how silly he must sound. :P

Ep2.
Whew! Long time between fansub releases and unfortunately this episode ended up being rather ponderous and unsatisfying. The characters just seemed to be going around and around in circles saying, SLIGHT SPOILERS: "Wait there's a spirit, let's exorcise it, no wait there was no spirit to begin with, but wait, yes there is actually a spirit.... why don't we exorcise it again.... umm... Okay.
I might just plain be watching the wrong show, but there doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency or relevance in tracking down the poltergeist/ghost. I suppose it is called "Ghost Hunt", which puts me in the mind of "Treasure Hunt" or something equally frivolous.
And in terms of actual scariness, it only really managed to achieve this right at the end for the cliffhanger, but otherwise it was rather dull.
Early days yet, but if it doesn't start going somewhere soon, I'll probably start to lose my patience with it.

I think it's really interesting as a concept, but I agree, episode 2 was a lot of flash and substance signifying nothing.
The show may not be intended to really be scary... it is definitely feeling more like a character-driven drama with the shifting relationships, judgements, and opinions between various members of the cast. That very realisitic "professional friction" between the characters is what will keep me watching, not a desire to be scared.

Oh Man. I feel bad just mentioning the delay if the translator really did die. Not that I was complaining in the first place, but I just hope that it's either not true, or that the dudes ok.

True, timing is the same thing. Once you give me the script it's just a matter of putting it with the video. Shh. Timing is hard...okay?
Anyhow, I agree that episode 2 was kind of all over the place, with some repetitve stuff. Although, I am still intrigued to watch.

Ep.4 - 6. (and ep3)
The 2nd arc was done a lot better though with it actually managing to be a bit spooky this time around and there being a much more acceptable resolution. Heh, Mai has some pretty funny facial expressions from time to time as well.
I also noticed that, thankfully, there may be a longer term plot revolving around Mai and the dreams she has.
The show was really started on the wrong foot however, with Ep.3 being totally ant-climatic.

I too have been following this as it's released, and I enjoy it.
The unique premise helps it a lot - this is not a show I can look at and say "some other show did this better already."
The doll's house arc was much spookier than the first one, which is good, because the friction between the cast - which provided the best parts of the first arc - had lessened by a lot in this one. Admittedly, working together on that first case probably acted as a bonding experience for them, but I'd have liked more explanation or development for why they had started getting along better. Not perfectly, but better.
Even so, for the premise alone, I think this show's a keeper. I also think Mai makes for a pretty good protagonist in this sort of show, as her "strong point" is obviously her ability to get along with others.

On top of that, as was said previously, there might a "dream"-psychic thing, happening with Mai. It's all very interesting.

i heard of it, a freind kinda mentioned it once at work, said he really wanted to see it, and i sorta shrugged him off on it, i was too busy thinking of Trinity Blood and the Clover Set i was waiting on :X but maybe i'll go look it up, my anime resource's have grown thin.

What! the previous post was on december 2006?!
Ghost Hunt ep 20
The spookiness level of this series had been exceptional as of late. The latest arc - The Bloodstained Labyrinth (especially ep 19-20) was so steeped with mysterious horror that i kept feeling little shivers down my spine as i stay rooted in my seat; following every second of the story. (Believe me, no horror anime had ever done that to me before!)
Argh, my lack of skills in story/ploy analysis is lacking so Professors out there, do this anime justice with your critique! something should be done to promote Ghost Hunt in AA! And Horror/Mystery fans out there, WATCH THIS ANIME!

I for one am still watching, and enjoying... I just have a tendency to stop posting in topics if they aren't very active. I think the erratic fansub release schedule and a big gap in releases lost Ghost Hunt a lot of viewers around here.
One thing I'm on the fence about is how it ends so many episodes on cliffhangers. It can be good, the cliffhanger at the end of episode 19 was excellent. It was extremely creepy and made me really look forward to seeing episode 20. But other times - like the cliffhanger at the end of episode 20 - it feels overused and unnecessary.
The other thing I'm not sure about liking that much is how Mai has become Shibuya Psychic Research's own resident Daniel Jackson - the one who is always strongly arguing the voice of morality. I think that role would have been more appropriate to John and given him some rather needed personality and position in the team, other than "gopher."
Other than that... creepy, spooky, suspenseful, horror-ific. Great show for its genre. Much scarier than most monster-centric shows I've seen.

Me too, as the one who created this topic, Ghost Hunt has hit a very spooky point now. Very gripping and suspenful. If you like horror stories, this is defenitely for you.

From what I've heard from my sister (who's currently watching it as it comes out), she says the main guy is a prick. Pretty mean guy. It all begins with this girl injuring his assistant rendering him unable to work (for a while) I think. As a result, the girl has to take the assistant's place and ends up falling for the bastard. Sounds interesting to me and I plan on watching it "one day".

I'd say that romance takes a back seat and Naru really isn't that bad. Your sister makes it sound like a really terrible love story, which it defenitely isn't.
