For those of you who don't want to waste your time. Corey Lidle crashed a plane into a building in New York City.

No, the truth remains the truth, dead or not. I'm sure he had a lot of other great qualities, and it's too bad he's dead, but really, he was an average pitcher at best.
Calling him one of baseball's greatest would mean roughly the equivalent of saying Rob Johnson is one of the best QBs to ever play.

Like you're doing right now?
Lament his passing because he was a person who died tragically, but no need to inflate his pitching stats in the process.

Honestly...
Cory Lidle is indeed a good man, but because of his death NOW he's called great. I think Cory himself would rather be referred to what he was, and not what he could have been. That's what they're trying to say.
And just as I said about Terrel Owen's "attempted suicide" you just told us what the world possibly already knew, considering this was first treated to the assumption that it was a terrorist attack THEN they realized that this pitcher was aboard it.
I'm not mocking the dead nor decreasing the value of his life. It's a sad day in baseball, yes. Tragedy, yes. But to call him great AFTER he died is almost insulting to the man... it's like saying to him that he had to DIE first before he could ever amount to that.
However, if you were a major Cory Lidle fan, I'd understand a bit. But I think that thread title was used more for a dramatic effect.
Regardless, it's a tragic accident. And I wish his family well. He's had some problems, especially with the past seasons of him switching teams and everything, but I hope he can finally rest peacefully.

Well, I'm sorry that guy won't be able to enjoy his life anymore. But isn't it his own fault that he's dead? Just thinking out loud.

So... is this going to be another Kurt Cobain thing? Where we make this guy a genius only because he died? I'm sad for his family, but as has been said before, it is rather unseemly to make more of his career than there really was. And if he was a good man, he'd probably agree.
