Since there is a thread for favorite Japanese word, I decided to do one about names. Here are my favorites:

Girl: Chiaki

Boy: Naoto

Which name/names is your favorite? :bowing:

You're a man of compassion.

And precognition, apparently.

I guess it's pretty stupid since its pretty much a staple in Japan already... But my favorite name would have to be Sakura... I just find the name cute or something... Maybe the name Takamizawa sounds cool too...

Japanese names sound nice if pronounced correctly, but they never will be in America, unless it's something dumb like Bobobo-bo-bobo. I'd never give my child a Japanese name.

But if I really had to choose, it'd probably be Hikaru or Sakura. It's just aesthetically pleasing to the ears, I think.

For a girl, I love the name Hotaru (10 guesses where it came from, but oh well.) For a boy...hm...that's actually tough. I'd have to say Shiro.

Yukari. Goes for either a boy or a girl ^^ I even thought about using "Yukari Ikeda" as my nick at first, but Kyubi-chan is much weirder.

To tell the truth I've never put much thought behind the idea. I would never give my child a Japanese name unless, for whatever reason, I ended up married to an oriental.

Girls:

Yukari: I really like the sound of it. The I vowel at the dn of a name really rings for me.

Kaori: I'm not sure where I first heard this name but it sounds very old-fashioned to my ears. Like an uncommon but appreciated name.

Ikari: I've been told this is more often used for boys but to me it sounds befitting for a girl. It sounds very spiritual.

Boys:

Hiroshi: If I remember correctly, the name means generous, which is a a moral I strongly believe should be in all human beings.

Jun: In Japanese, to me, it sounds very masculine and protective. Almost an equivalent of a boy Courtney here, to me.

Torio: For similar reason as Jun. This name sounds intimidating also and when I hear the name I can picture a very handsome man.

I never knew that. I was just thinking of the character Shiro Amada from 08th MS Team. Didn't know that the name Shiro was popular for dogs too...Damn...I feel stupid now -.-'

Hiroyuki or Masami would be my picks. Shiro seems like a cool one too.

 Well it was a hard desicion, but I have come up with a few names. ^^

Daisuke- I've ALWAYS loved that name for a boy. I don't know...I just like the way it sounds.

Mitsuki- For a girl, to me this name conveys a sweet yet out-going personality.

Shuichi- For a boy, it just rolls off the tongue. SHUICHI SHUICHI!

For girls:

Chi- so cute! Gotta love the one syllable names. <3

Yuko- As you can see, I like short, simple names.

Ame- 'Nother short name. Sounds so sweet!

Maru- I'm sure my child would kill me if I named her Maru, but oh well. It's cute.

For boys:

Desuki- Not so short, I know. Aren't you surprised that I chose something long? I just love it, it rolls off the tongue.

Yuki- Short. Simple. Yay.

No, not any more. Yebisu uses "ゑびす" which is actually the obsolete "we" hiragana. Why? I have no clue.

Megumi is technically a female name. Even if it isn't, I have yet to see the name being used for a man, be it in real life or in fiction. Just to add though, Megumi may also mean "blessing" (恵み).

I'm not sure why, but I've always liked the name Aya for a girl. It's a delicate name that's very easy on my tongue. The sad thing is, the name can be mispronounced as "Aiya" which, in my native language, is an exclaimation used out of frustration, like a groan.

Edited:
@LadyYuina: I'm a Southeast Asian, to be specific.

I have watched an anime when they called Megumi for a boy...
I remembered that his/her name was Megumi Amatsuka from Tenshi na Konamaiki that's why I'm little bit confused about it
