What to read next~Top 10 Manga

For the 10th anniversary of the Japanese Media Arts festival Japanese fans were asked to vote for their top 10 manga. Just under 79,000 fan voted. Here are the choices.

1. Slam Dunk (Manga)
2. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Manga)
3. Dragon Ball (Manga)
4. Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga)
5. Doraemon (Manga)
6. Phoenix (Manga)
7. Black Jack (Manga)
8. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Manga)
9. Mushishi (Manga)
10. Death Note (Manga)

I am really surprised that in the list only 3 of the choices are new. Usually top ten lists are made up of what is hot at the moment. This doesn't seem to be the case here.

I'm so glad that pretty much the only two Tezuka works I like made it on that list. Black Jack is pimp.

I'm personally surprised that the Rurouni Kenshin manga didn't make the Top 10 and that Nausicaä didn't crack the Top 5. It also surprises me that a sports themed manga got the top spot. Can't say that I've ever read Slam Dunk, but apparently it must that good. Then again, that's just my take on the list...

I actually made this post to discuss what people thought of the choices on the list not to see everyones top 10 list. Anyways I thought it was interesting to see the Japanese fans perspective of what their favorite manga is. It's somewhat different from the internet fandom.

It's interesting how different the two are, actually. I wonder what the circumstances of the poll were (and don't tell me that they're described in that link that was posted, because I'm lazy and I don't want to go read it).

Hmmm... Yes, it is a rather curious change... My guess would be that the voting population had a drastic difference in preference to the voting population of the initial poll... That is, assuming that both polls had different populations used... Goes to show that people have different likes and dislikes depending on their culture, education, and exposure... Hmmm... I could use this as a report paper... But, if I were to be asked, I'd have to go to the more recent results posted... They seem to be more realistic, in my opinion, than the other one...

Don't quote me on this because I don't understand how the polls worked exactly but I think that with the write ins they listed the top 10 choices that people wrote in that were not on the original top 10 list.

If you notice on this link the top 10 writes in for anime were also completely different from the actual top 10 list.

I have heard about Phoenix and I am still interested.The book store I go to does not carry it though :( . Has anyone here read Phoenix? I hardly even know what it is about.
