Now that I've finished the OVA, do you think I should see the TV series?

I do.

I adore this series and all of its incarnations. I think you should highly consider picking the OVA up; not only is it enjoyable, but it goes hand-in-hand.

:/

I actually prefer the OVA to the TV series, just because the series didn't have enough Yomiko Readman. You don't need to watch the TV series, but if you do, it does expand on the ROD 'universe'. The main characters are different from the ones in the OVA, similar to how Record of Lodoss War and Chronicles of the Heroic Knight work together. Perhaps you could pick up the manga (it's only 3 volumes long) which has loads of Yomiko Readman bliss. Or just get the TV series and enjoy it for what it is.

I'm totally with Pachinko. I loved the TV series. The OSTs are really good too, especially the ending theme Confidence. So yeah, definitely go for ROD: The TV.

It depends. Did you actually like the OVA? If so, there's no reason not to watch the series, or at least see an episode or two.

If you like the OVA, then the TV series is well worth the watch. Although in my opinion, just getting to see more Paper Mastery action sequences is worth the watch.

The biggest difference between OVA and TV series was, in my opinion, animation quality. The animation in the TV series is pretty inconsistent - it's good when it's important to be good (in action scenes) but outside of that it can be something of a crapshoot.

i liked the OVA very much. with only 3 episodes for the OVA, i'm more than a little interested in watching the series as well. i think it's worth a watch.

The OVA was worthless pointless stylized action/fighting.

You people have horrible taste.

What're you talking about? The OVA rocked!

But it was extremely stylish, well-animated, fun to watch, with great music, and interesting and creative concepts and powers.

A lot of shows are pointless stylized action/fighting - the ROD OVA just does it better than most. I don't know what else you'd expect from a three-episode OVA, either - it's not like they'd have the time to include strong character development and detailed background explanations even if they didn't focus on the action.

I never saw the tv show either. I saw the first episode and stopped. I should watch it sometime I heard it's pretty good. The OVA is like the awesomeist thing out there.

I thought you were one of the more intelligent people on the forum. That is unless you're joking, it's hard to tell over the internet.

Yeah, I just like prodding sometimes.

I really didn't care for RoD, but the "horrible taste" jab was just me adhereing to SC's title for me of "master baiter".

Apolyion gracefully defended RoD (dissapointingly) for all it's positive qualities which I recognized yet still didn't enjoy.

I think most (or at least a good portion) of us consider the OVA to be better than the TV series.

I'd be curious to see someone try and unravel the meaning behind all the mythology they push into the narrative. Sometimes things may seem like just style and action when they're borrowing from many different sources (Kill Bill comes across this way for many people). It's been too long since I watched the OVA to attempt this myself. Maybe I'll have to watch it again.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the RoD OAV quite a bit. It was a short piece of mindless fluff, but it was highly entertaining, which is something that all anime should shoot for. I don't think anyone's going to watch it for intellectual stimulation, but it's great to pop in when your sick.

Riiight. I keep forgetting you read Shakespeare and watch Doctor Zhivago all day. YOu certainly wouldn't be caught up watching something with less substance because it would be beneath you, like... you know... shows about Pandas. ;)

And I'm the one called a pompous ass. Sheesh.

ohh, caught up again criticizing other people taste.. although you manage to do it in a fun, i know who you are and what your triying to do so you better stop there, kind of way....

Rod ova; its really cool, very amazing style and although fast paced, complete and engaging story. I think im one of the few that watched the tv series before the ova, and what i really love about the anime, was the characters, they are funny and easy to like. Your maybe gonna find a lot less of that great action you watched in the ova, but the quality its still there. So yeah, you should watch the series, maybe not as mindblowing as the ova, but you sure are gonna enjoy the time spent in there.

For those who may misunderstand this, Ojisan and I have this little silly game going where he complains about my tastes and I ridicule his.

And please notice Klaus that when I do it in other people's comments, I won't go directly to attack the source (the person), I would just question the idea. This was a quick jab on Ojisan, because I know he is a good sport and say something nasty about me without meaning it in return.
