I don't know if anyone knows about this but the trailer for it leaked online last week, it looks like it's going to be one hell of a film. Based off the histroical tale and another of Frank Miller's graphic novels 300 tells the story of the 300 elite Spartans that stayed behind to battle the mighty Persian army. Thoughts? Comments?

Looks nifty. I would think a force of 300 would get steamrolled by the Persians, though. Spartans or not.

Note: not watched video yet. Supposed to be working.

The Spartans got all the glory, but there were some 1400 Athenians and Thebans fighting alongside them, from memory. I haven't looked up the Battle of Thermopylae in a while, but it is one of those classic stories.

Eh?

Gates of Fire?

The Battle of Thermopylae is a pretty awesome story. Only a few hundred Spartans (and a few thousand Greeks) holding off... what was it, 2 million Persians? They were pretty much all killed after a few days, but those few days proved to be pivotal in allowing the Greek city-states to rally in order to defeat the Persians at Salamis and Plataea.

I've grown tired of just about every movie involving spartans. This movie looks rather promising though, seeing as how it's also based off of one of Frank Miller's graphic novels. Sin City was top notch so I'm expecting the same.

Finally got to see the video. It looks neat. The last film I saw about Thermopylae was The 300 Spartans, which was made back in the 50's. that was a good film, but I got a very anti-communist feel out of it (but I think that was just me......).

this one looks to add in some supernatural and superhero aspects, but that may not be a bad thing, seeing as this is the ancient Greek culture was filled with gods and legend. I also suppose that if the Greeks had got their act together and conquered the world, the Battle of Thermopylae probably would have made for a great epic poem like the Iliad and the Oddessy.

The only thing that I saw that might annoy me is the portrayal of Spartan women.....if that woman was being held back because he child was taken for the army. Perish the thought! If he hadn't gone a Spartan mother would have kicked his arse all the way to the barracks.

Whats that? 300 hundred Spartans greatly outnumbered by another army?

Why does this remind me of Halo 2?

Yep. Bungie totally plagurised Herodotus. I reckon he should sue.
