Maybe it's just me, but I can't even remember a manga ending that left me feeling good, or that I felt satisfied to read. For some reason, they always feel like they're leaving loose ends left and right, or else that they're too rushed, or etc etc.
I've just finished reading a few manga - Hot Gimmick and Gravitation - and they left me feeling almost cold and indifferent, although I was avidly following the releases of both during their run. (Well, I kind of slacked off on the Gravi-love a bit... but that's a whole 'nother story) Even though I was always looking forward to both series as they were being released in North America, by the time I read the endings for both, I was left feeling empty. And not even the emptiness of not being able to read a favorite series anymore... More a betrayed kind of emptiness, like "that's all there is?!" with a big heaping dose of apathy on top.
With Hot Gimmick, I think it comes from the fact that all the relationship angst throughout the series builds up into one thing, and the wrong thing: the sexual consummation of Ryoki and Hatsumi's relationship. All along, I wanted to see more character development than I actually did. I wanted there to be stronger reasons for them to be together, and I wanted their relationship to have more of an effect on each of them. By making their sexual experience finish out the series, it just makes it feel like the whole series was angled just at the concept that Sex = Healthy Relationship. And there were so many other issues for them to address... but they never did.
I don't even know what the deal was with how I felt about the Gravitation ending, since I guess looking back I wouldn't change anything about it.
Has there ever been an ending that just completely let you down, even though you loved the series? It doesn't even have to be a bad ending, just one that left you unsatisfied with how things turned out.
And give me hope and tell me that there are series out there with brilliant endings, because I honestly can't think of any endings that stunned me or made me happy to read.
PARADICE KISS!!!!!!!! Goodness! That ending was the most TWISTED and UNSATISFACTORY thing EVER! Okay. No more caps for Sae. >.>
Okay. WHY not George. Why must it be her and the stupid guy she liked from forever ago in the series?! Why?!?!?!

You went in to Paradise Kiss expecting a perfect fairy tale ending? That's just silly.
Really, I thought the ending was near-perfect. Yukari and George were both driven, goal-oriented people...but it just happened that the realization of their respective goals was not compatible with the other's. Would you prefer that George or Yukari sacrifice what they want for the other? Neither would be happy doing that. Not to mention George is hardly the marrying kind; I doubt he could be tamed long enough to actually settle down.
When you get down to it, the ending was perfect for the mood and feeling of the series and the characters' personalities.

Death Note. 2nd half of the manga (from the introduction of N) was boring, but its suckiness doesn't even compare with the ending. Light's decision and the 'climax' sucked, and the stupid resolution sucked.
I loved the ending of ParaKiss. It fit the characters and the situation perfectly... I think it's a good example of a story where a bittersweet ending fulfills everything the best.
I was HORRIDLY disappointed in Chobits. Nothing spoiler-esque, but the story had so much potential and it wasted all of it.

I agree about Death Note ever since L Died the manga went downhill. But I can think of manga that I have been happy with the ending.
Rurouni Kenshin, everything just felt really full circle with Kenshin and Kaoru getting married and having a son and Yahiko getting Kenshin's sword
Hikaru No Go it doesn't really have an ending but for a slice of life story I think this is very appropriate. The main character might not win every game he plays but he will continue to play Go and get stronger.
I also think Maison Ikkoku has an excellent ending (I have to finish reading it but I am spoiled for how it ends and that is actually what makes me want to finish it).
It's not over yet but I am happy (for the most part) where Fruits Basket is heading. I especially liked Tohru and Kyo and Yuki and Machi finally getting together

Battle Royale had a shitty ending, but really, it had a shitty final 10 (out of like 15) volumes. So I wasn't expecting much. It was kind of just like the film (which I didn't like) ending. I'm not even going to post what happened, it was just bad. A let-down. The manger lost it's appeal when they turned the villain into a God.

Love Hina.
The manga ended with Keitaro and Naru marrying, but the anime ended with Keitaro and Naru flying off in a plane piloted by Seta

Dude, you're totally missing the point. This is the Manga forum, and silan clearly stated that she's talking about manga that had mediocre endings, not anime. Now, unless you're saying that you didn't like the ending to Love Hina manga, I suggest you start reading and understanding the topic before you post, lest you look really dumb.
And I'm gonna have to agree with Mana on the point about Chobits. Wasted potential ahoy. Same could probably be said for Pretty Face, although that one was more of a cop-out on the mangaka's part.

Pretty face really backed itself into a corner the way the storyline was going. It also didn't help that the mangaka HAD to come up with an ending becasue the manga was cancelled. I guess he would have been able to come up with something better had he been able to have a couple more volumes to write.
As for Hot Gimmick... I didn't necessarily dislike the ending, but I would have loved an epilogue showing what happened to the characters a few years later, similar to Maison Ikkoku or Kare Kano.
Tokyo Mew Mew: A La Mode. Okay, you call THAT an ending? You didn't even introduce all the new bad guys! I mean, Tokyo Mew Mew was and still is one of the greatest manga I have ever read! And gorgeous, from beginning to end! Perfect 10 in my book! They just flat out screwed themselves over when they published that 2 book of a sequel. Pathetic! :baninated Reprint wanted!!!!!! Now don't get me wrong. I am in NO way talking about the Tokyo Mew Mew (or Mew Mew Power) anime. Now THAT is what I call just plain RETARDED! They were definetly not thinking when they released it with ****in names like Ichigo (the main character basically) as Zoey! My mom's store is Zoey's btw lol ANYWAYS! Zakuro was Renee and that was okay but come on! The Japanese names were easy to pronounce!!! Lazy bastards!
*ahem* *Sae-chan wipes off sweat from forehead Glad I finally got that out. Well, anyways, as I was saying, an awefull sequel and a tragically, pathetic rushed ending.

Ehhhh?! Well.... thanks for ruining that ending for me. It doesn't end end?! Argh.

Well, it's good that you're in no way talking about it, then, since I didn't really want to talk about anime here. :suspiciou
And clever job with the advertising of teh mom's store. That was neatly slipped right into the conversation.

Someday Dreamers: What the heck kind of ending was that? And how can that be an ending anyway? The manga is cute but only two volumes long, and having a really dissapointing ending, makes me unhappy.

I wouldn't actually call that a spoiler hence why I didn't put it in spoiler tags. That was my interpretation of the ending without giving away any of the plot points. Trust me if you don't know what happens that isn't spoiling anything.

I am able to name a lot of 'anime' endings that have let me down, but when it comes to manga, that is a bit more difficult.
Well there are two that I can think of that I didn't like the endings for. The first one being, .hack//Legend of the Twilight. It was a quite story with Shugo, Rena, and the people who teamed up with them, though the ending didn't make much sense and there were so many questions left unanswered, I was looking for so much more information and I didn't get it.
The second manga that I didn't like the ending for was Ayashi no Ceres, this one I'll need a spoiler tag for, so here we go:
There were way too many deaths, I don't think Aki should've died, or a whole bunch more of innocent people. Touya was interesting at first, but then I realize he's just a guy who seems to have a cool attitude, but then turns out to be a sex freak when it comes to Aya. His death, personally, I don't think wasn't necessary either, though he does 'come back' for who knows how long.
Truthfully, not one of Yuu Watase's best work to begin with, oh well. I also agree earlier on about Hot Gimmick's ending...that was a ridiculous ending.
Endings I have liked are Wish, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tokyo Babylon, Meru Puri, Alice 19th, Imadoki!, and a whole bunch more. For me when it comes to manga, the manga-ka usually does wrap up a series quite nicely.

I agree with mana as I did about the anime ending - chobits: wasted potential i WANTED MARRIAGE!! lol...this isnt a masculine thing for a guy to say BUT I WANTED LOVEY DOVEY GUSHY Lol because i love chi

Since my name was brought up here, I feel the need to clarify....
I did NOT want marriage at the end of Chobits. Not in the slightest. I think if something like that would have happened, I probably would have disliked the manga even more.
What I WAS hoping for, was something more psychological. I could have forgiven Hideki for being a carbon copy (but less amusing version) of Godai if he had shown some ****ing brains and actually thought about falling in love with an AI, and what complications could have arisen from that. Hell, even throw a philosophical bit in there about what an AI is, and how it's different from a human brain. If CLAMP had even tried for something like that, the manga would have turned out better than it did, but they spent too much time ripping off scenes from Dr. Slump. And instead I wasted too much money and time reading that whole damn manga from beginning to end. *le sigh*

well they could have delved into the sosciological question: What is marriage?
as that is such a hotely contested issue - well in canada at least.

I have to feel the same about that one. I didn't quite understand the ending and the two stories at the end didn't help the ending any better.
I think the worst ending for a manga is no ending at all;when the series just stops or is cancled. I really liked the Peacemaker manga(the second half, the "sequel") but it wasn never finished. Kanpai! also just stopped right in the middle of a fight. Was that the ending or was the series canceled because of something?

I have to agree with two people on Gravitation and Tokyo Mew Mew A la Mode.
With Gravitation what I THINK happened was (The manga gets REALLY REALLY weird towards the end....):
Ryuichi kept sending Shuichi threatening notes to 'test him'. Than he randomly decided to be an actor, so he quit singing and up and left to America :whine: Besides that heartbreak, it just seemed so...rushed. I mean I'm not going to lie the manga-ka for Gravitation was NOT very experienced. The whole story was a big mess, just heading in whatever random direction it felt like....yet I loved it SO MUCH! Plus they barely skimmed the surface of so many of the characters. Like Ryuichi. He is 30 years old and he carries around a stuffed rabbit and acts like a little kid. Now come, there has to be SOME story behind that! And why does Tohma seem to be more obsessed with Yuki than his own wife?
And that is all for my Gravitation rant. With Tokyo Mew Mew, I LOVED the first part of the series I really did. ^^ But than with A La Mode...meh. Maybe it was because I disliked Berry with a passion. I mean ICHIGO is our hero, not this idiotic blonde bimbo who gets herself accepted into a top quality school just because 'the uniforms were cute'. Plus she got two DNA's, a Rabbit and a Cat....well....aren't they supposed to have endangered species' animal DNA? Since when is a rabbit endangered? Last I checked they were far from it. And another cat? We have Ichigo, don't take away her spotlight! T_T Why not some other animal like a panda or something? Pandas are endangered! GRR!
Ok I'm done...o.O

The ending of Hunter x Hunter's Greed Island arc disappointed me a lot..
After Gon, Bisuke and Killua complete the Greed Island Specific Pocket Card challenge, they sneak cards out as a reward to find Gon's dad, Ging, which is referred to as Nigg near the end of the arc. Only the guy they warp to isn't Ging... it's Kaitou!
They left it at that, and I haven't managed to get a hold of the Chimera Ant arc..

I know how you feel! Yoshihiro-sama has yet to put out another HxH volume! Chimera ant remains unfinished! (As far as I've heard)
