Discuss how you think this will affect the beautiful place we call hom... err, AA. Or if you don't think it will affect it at all, discuss why.

I can't really say, since I have no clue about how much Kain really did/does for the site/forums and how much is done by other people (Mugs?). What I can say is that I wish you luck and happiness in your endeavors, many happy days with Alex, and lots and lots of <3. Even though you hate me. :)

We shall all (with little exceptions) miss you utterly to the bitter-sweet end. Thank you so much for all the great work you have done with helping develop this wonderful site. I, too, have made many friends. Please, please, PLEASE keep in touch and don't leave completely. That would suck. :scared: You MUST keep in touch. :p Yay! Until we meet again!

P.S. And always remember! I'm with ya!

Since I joined AA a year go, I haven't seen too much of Kain in forum. And recently updates have been rather slow even though profs are still popping up at least 2 reviews per month. So I think Kain is right when he says he hasn't been doing much for AA recently.

Other than that, I think he was a very charismatic man with a lot of passion for anime. I've had opportunities in the past to have a look at old threads, and Kain's posts were so funny and had so much flair, participating in such interesting topics and generally making the whole thread so enjoyable to read. It's a shame such cool old members like Kain no longer participates in forum as much.
And I'm guessing that it was Kain's (and Mug's I think?) reviews and their enthusiasm in trying to appeal to as much people as possible in early days, to establish such a community where skilled reviewers find it a worthy place to devote their time into writing reviews. Thus, Anime Academy today.

So even though that cool and funny 'ghost' of Kain has grown old and feeble in the wired (I'm sure he's still cool and funny in real life), thank you for your work in early days to establish such a cool place for me to talk about anime, and wish you good luck in future endeavours.

Well, that's one less person's shoes to shine. Unless Crapse is promoted. Then he will grow another pair of feet and make me work even more.

Anyways, thank you for your hard work these 5 years Kain. I still remember AA in its infancy, where profs, mods and regular mofos would "sing" Ask DNA together. Good times, good times.

I've never been introduced to an AA without Kain. I have no doubts on whether he's supportive or not around the forums, and he will greatly be missed. Hopefully, you'll drop by on occasion to give us all an update on your life.<3

Actually that is not entirely accurate. Professors have lives too, and sometimes we might slip in that 2 deliveries per month policy, but we let "management" know in advance. This is definitely not on Kain.

I am really sad to hear this I just assumed that Kain would always be the head of this place. No, see, Kain's so old and close to death that if this assumption were true, then AA would have to close. And you wouldn't want that, would you?

It's been a long time since I've watched anime or read many reviews here. For the first few years I read them all as they were posted, and I always thought Kain was the best at it. Separately, I felt his and my tastes aligned more reliably than others, so I could usually depend on his reviews for a good recommendation. So thanks Kain, for being so competent and always being correct in your opinions, and for sending me hentai that one time.

Alas, all good things must eventually come to an end. Good bye Kain. For the past few years, I have thoroughly enjoyed your quirky writing style and critical wit. Very few people have mastered manipulating of the English language as well as you have. I hope for the best in your future endeavors.

Well, see you whenever you feel like dropping by your old nest. We'll all be waiting with open arms.

Gaspity gasp gasp! It was a shock to see the update today, but not really a surprise. Gotta move on with life, after all. Still, an AA without Kain at its head is definately going to seem weird for a while. For one thing, I'll have to get used to someone else signing off at the end of each update.

Like Jagan Eye, I tended to agree with Kain's opinions most of the time. Out of all the professors here, his views most often coincided with my own, so whenever he review an anime I hadn't seen, I knew I could trust him completely.

Goodbye old man, you'll be missed.

That's what they tell me, anyway. ^_^

Kain, you've made quite a dent in the internet, which is no small feat, and a dent in the lives of many people. Really, it's YOUR fault, partially, I'm so badly addicted to the internet. Any e-fame and e-fortune you've earned is richly deserved.

Thanks for making AA what it is today!

It seemed to me that Kain stopped coming around over a year ago to actually socialize with anybody, since almost everyone of the original generation had faded. I guess you finally got sick of paying and posting for other people's fun? Well, best of luck to you and Alex with the extra time and cash.

But what gets me, is that Mugs is the new dean, when Mugs has seemingly faded out just as much as anyone. I don't know if he talks to the staff or still messes with vB, but it seems like Mugs doesn't do shit, much less want to assume responsibilty over a community he doesn't associate with.

Mugs has always done a lot of background/admin type stuff that may not be obvious. Updating VBB is one thing. He (and Corpse) also get PM's for "change this" or "make my name that."

Mugs has updated the site before, you know. It's not like he's new at this.

As much as we all hate to see Kain go, I have absolute faith in Mugs. As quiet as he is, he really is the one man force that keeps AA up and running technically, on the main site and the forums. If anyone can step up to take care of this baby, it's him. AA is being left in good hands.

As for Kain, you filthy deserter! And to think I filled your chip bowl! Nah, all good things must come to an end, eventually. Life changes, there comes a time for people to move on. I totally understand and respect that. In five years, you've built the absolute best anime community on the internet, bar none. That's quite a feat, and I hope you'll kick back and enjoy it. Whatever happens, I wish you (and the lovely and very sweet Alex) nothing but the best.

Haha, sorry to speak from my ass, which if could literally be done, was.

I realize I only see things from the user-end, and as far as I could tell, Kain only updated the main page and reviewed occasionally. He hasn't been very active in IRC or the forums for a long time. I assumed he's quitting for one since it's not very rewarding to run a non-profit site when he doesn't even care for the community like he used to.

As for my assumptions on Mugs, I based that on the fact that he too stopped partaking in the community and simply did things in the background. Whenever Mugs was brought up in IRC, I would hear things like, "Haha, Mugs actually do something! That's a laugh! :p" So I assumed he'd only occasionally drop by and do a couple updates here and there, but not to the point of compelling him to actually run the site.

I know Kain and Mugs created the site and have always ran it, but to me, lately, they've seemed equally aloof. I was being speculative was all, pardon my ignorance.

Edit: Just to clarify further, since I hate being misunderstood, I didn't mean to say that Mugs doesn't do shit at all. I knows he's in the background from time to time, but I never figured him still strongly commited enough to take over the site. Especially since I'm assuming he's paying.

Of course, I don't know either of them, I guess they could just have a passion in the site that's regardless of whether or not they partake in the community.

The place certainly won't be the same. What's going to power this place from now on, now that Random Asian Guy 2.0 power is cut off? Seriously, Anime Academy is the reason for my obvious obessesion with anime these days. It's been such a great place to read up on the great stuff, the latest happenings, and generally just a fun place to be and it was all due to your dream and making it a reality.

I know you haven't been around as much in the past year or so, but one always felt that presence of the Dean looming around and it kept AA having its own special spirit that can be found nowhere else. Anyway, good luck with life...

The only sad thing about this I think is that, judging from how Madoka disappeared completely after her resignation, I'm just thinking we'll see similar patterns here...

Wow, of all the people to leave Anime Academy I never imagined that Kain would give his resignation and leave. Well all of us do have lives outside of AA after all, so I guess it had to happen sooner or later. I didn't know you much Kain, I've seen you around the forums and of course you are the one who always updated the main page with announcements for new updates, and of course your reviews.

Seriously though, it's sad to know that. Kain, you've done quite a bit for anime lovers pretty much around the world with this site. I can't really gauge how much my love and knowledge of anime (and japanese culture, for that matter) grew during my time here, not to mention the personal growth.

So, thank you, Kain, for everything. I trust the torch will pass on without any problems at all, especially with Mugs taking the helm, but you will be missed.

Better late than never. I just to echo the sentiments already posted. I remember what an indispensable resource AA was back when I was still green. I relied heavily on the reviews for guidance; in fact, I used to sort by grade and head down the list, one by one. I was rarely steered wrong (except Love Hina, never understood that one.)

But don't let my lost train of thought get in the way of your retirement. As much as I'd hate to see you go, you deserve a permanent (hopefully not) vacation from work.

I would never have been an anime fan if it hadn't been for AA (I won't bore you with the story). The reviews are the lifeblood of this site (imo), and Kain's were always well done. I wish him good luck. :twodrunks

You can actually find anime DVD's with Kain's marks and comments on the covers in the stores here. Here, on the other side of the planet. Shows the proportions this site's grown into, and also it's importance among english anime sites out there. I can't really say much about you K since I don't know you personally, but it's quite a footprint you've left. Hope you manage to have similar success with future projects.

I can hardly take even a small part of the credit. Everyone from Mugs to Crapse to the Profs to mods to students have done their parts to build AA into what it is. I was just along for the ride.

Well, this may be an old thread but since I'm back I'd like to say somethings.

I didn't talk much to Kain, however it was an honour knowing him and working with him to make the color version of AA's Anni May. I was really glad he picked me to do it. Thanks for the chance!

Well... Thanks for giving birth to this amazing community! I loved it then, love it now and will always love it!
