Samurai X is the name given to the Kenshin OAV's and movies back when releasing stuff that sounded "too Japanese" was deemed confusing.

Watch Samurai X: Trust, then Samurai X: Betrayal. After that, watch Rurouni Kenshin, and when you're done with that, Samurai X: Reflections is the unofficial conclusion, but you might as well check it out. I'd also like to note that the manga series ended at the end of the Kyoto arc, so the rest of the show after that is filler if you're uninterested in that. So yeah, there's the order of the series for you. Have fun.

If you want to follow the entire story chronologically, do as jetfire says. Or if you prefer, you can watch the series first, followed by the Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (the beginning to the whole story) and lastly, Samurai X: Reflections (the conclusion). This is according to the order of releases for each title.
There's also a movie that's a sequel to the series; Rurouni Kenshin: The Motion Picture. You may check it out if you like. Happy watching :)!

I don't recommend watching the filler. There're too many... uhm... supernatural things going on. It will make the anime's near realism go down the drain.

I heard it was because ADV wasn't allowed to use the name "Rurouni Kenshin" for some reason.

No, we're the ones who should be dissapointed. In you. Here's an idea: BUY YOUR ANIME INSTEAD OF ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING IT FROM SOME SPYWARE WEBSITE. Ever thought of doing that?
Quit acting like a mod Starwind. Roark already mentioned the rules (and it doesn't need such a harsh repeat of his answer) and she was going to apologize anyways. Give her a break. She's 14, doesn't work, hasn't posted here much, and wasn't that familiar with the rules. Besides, on the site that she was visiting, you can only watch the anime on it (and anime gets constantly taken off that site, so you can't bookmark it and keep it), and can't download it. So maybe she's just previewing some stuff (which is basically the same thing as watching shows on TV), so when she actually gets some money someday, she can afford some good anime. Yes, posting where you can view anime is against the rules, but like I said, quit being such a hard a** and give her a freaking break.
We're the ones who should be dissapointed in you Starwind, for flipping out at people for every little mistake they make.

I'd highly suggest watching just Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (also known as Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen) and leave it at that. Seisouhen kinda sucks and the TV series (in my opinion) is really boring.

Ditto, except for the fact that I haven't seen Seisouhen.
Trust and Betrayal was awesome: beautifully animated, sobering, and with an interesting storyline and good characters.
The TV series lacked all of the above. If you're going to watch the TV series, watch it first. I made the "mistake" of watching it after I saw the first OVA (Trust and Betrayal), and I couldn't like it at all.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal is pretty much one of the best anime out there, let alone the best in the whole Rurouni Kenshin chronicles. Even so, watching the whole series and OVAs is still enjoyable, in my honest opinion. I watched the T & B after the series, and was amazed by the stark difference between them.
Seisouhen; eh, quite disappointing on how the show progressed, but I still loved how the whole story ended.
P.S. Cool sig, Zelkiiro...!

series-wise, i'd recommend the first half of the series, including the shishio makoto arc. tsuikohen is a must-see for anyone who grew up with this series. though seissohen offers the conclusion of the whole kenshin saga, it's something that you can do without.

They're really not expensive. Ask for things you're interested in for birthdays/christmas, etc. Tell your parents/relatives to shop online and/or point them to deals. If you receive cash and want to check something out, shop around at used book stores or places that carry used DVD's/VHS.
I almost never pay retail price for anything if I don't have to.

The manga series actually ended with the Jinchu arc.
With Rurouni Kenshin: Seisohen aka Samurai X: Reflection, I advise avoiding it and reading the manga series instead.

The Rurouni Kenshin tv series is a great series and shouldn't be passed up. If you are going to watch the series then watch episodes 1-62. This includes the first two arcs. The second arc(Legend of Kyoto)being the better of the two. I highly recommend that you watch the series, you wont be disappointed.

I'd have to disagree here. I highly recommend not watching this way and watch it in this order: Kenshin TV series eps 1-62, then Trust/Betrayal, (as the story was ment to be told and it will have more of an impact if watched this way) then you can either finish the TV series which is just filler. I'd also say avoid Reflections, it's a horrible anime and should be avoided. The best way to finish out the series would be to just read the manga since it's all out now.

Actually, it would depend on personal taste of how you want to view it. I personally liked seeing Kenshin's origin before the TV series, as it really set the mood for me about Kenshin's dramatic change from caring less about others lives to giving it his all to protect everyone. Although there are also many other people who would rather see Kenshin's better side first, and then watch the OVAs to find out what he was like in the past. Either way, you can't say it's better to watch it the way you did and I can't say that it's better to watch it the way that I did. It's all based on personal taste.

Kenshin never cared "less" about other people's lives per se (since he joined the Bakumatsu to aid the suffering of the people), he just thought that the only way to get to the peace that would benefit the populace was to help the Ishin win, by any means possible. Later on (after the Tomoe incident), he moves to the role of bodyguard (as seen in his last duel with Saitou in the first OVA), with Shishio Makoto assuming the role of hitokiri. After the revolution, he realized that his method was wrong, and then went on his journey to determine the best way to protect everyone (tested against Saitou, against Shishio, and against Enishi). The series isn't so much about Kenshin's change from killer to non-killer, but more about his newly acquired sense of worth and love of life.
From a purely plot persepective though, things won't make complete sense unless you watch it either in the middle of the Shishio fight, or after the Kyoto Arc all together.

All American parents are like that. To them, anime is garbage. Buy a Fullmetal Alchemist DVD, and they'll scream at you for wasting money on "Japanese porno video game cartoons that rot your brain," yet it's okay to go out and waste $10 on the latest Bratz dolls or Kidz Bop CDs or Barbie ponyriding videos or whatever other crap this country produces for kids these days. Some people (like my brother) think it's immature to watch anime. Right, a 20-year-old college student (me) is a loser for watching Cowboy Bebop, but it's okay for an 18-year-old student (my brother) to watch Rugrats and actually enjoy it. You know what, I'm moving to Canada.

I knew that someone would make that exact comment. My first thought was that I shouldnt bother explaining things in too much detail since I thought that everyone wouldnt read too far into what I was saying. Yet, I knew afterwards that someone would, but I was getting a bit tired of taking ten minutes or so to edit my posts so that people will know exactly what I mean. I know Kenshin didn't have absolutely no regard for life back then. I should have simply said, I watched the OVAs first to see what brought on his transition from killing people to not killing people, and learning to protect all life instead of just protecting some lives.

I probably didn't make this clear, but my parents couldn't care less either. However, a lot of people complain about this sort of thing. I wouldn't be surprised if some disgruntled soccer mom who found a Gundam Wing DVD on her son's shelf was behind that whole "George Bush wants to ban anime" nonsense a few years back.

Trying to find good anime to rent at Blockbuster is impossible. All they have is DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon, and maybe a couple of random volumes of Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. Oh, and Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed. But of course, everything except the first three have mature ratings slapped on them because the people who run that company are morons who think an animated breast is obscene, but there's nothing wrong with cursing and violence in live-action movies. Plus, they have extremely high prices (like hell I'm paying $7 to rent a DVD for a week). Stick with Netflix or purchasing from Suncoast (or online).

Not really true at all. At least, not in my experience. The Blockbuster near where I live (out in a middle-of-nowhere country town) has a fairly good stock of anime, considering, and selection has been broadening at many other branches I've stopped in. Besides, Blockbuster do not charge 7 dollars for one anime dvd; it's the same rate as any other movie, so if you're not willing to pay it that's on you.

Hello and welcome.
We discourage "Roleplaying" on this forum because of the spam that it generates. We're mostly a discussion based site.
The other reason that we don't allow RP is that, to be honest, it's mostly just an excuse for people to be more idiotic than normal on a forum. 99% of the people who "RP" don't really get into any kind of character... they just say things that they wouldn't if they were sane.
If you want to RP, I suggest that you check out these sites:

Hello
And thank you ^-^
I have noticed, how this place would discourage role play.. or even just writing in general. True there aren't many who go in to character, and for many, going into character is making a shell of a body, putting their self in place, with ablities which they wouldn't have had depending on the rp. Though there are good rpist as well. But you have answered my question, and I thank you for that. And thank you for your time to put down such places to rp. I have another site, to rp at.. so thank you very much, but I will check as you suggest, because they may be some interest to me.
Thank you.

If you don't think they're good enough to buy, that's your opinion. Personally, I thought the original four episodes were great. They told the story of Kenshin's past life very well. Also, it was interesting to see Kenshin in a darker tone. The OVAs feature none of the "Oro!" stammering or antics with Kaoru we see in the TV series. It's a much darker, much more serious tone. The two episodes that were tacked on later weren't so great, though. Trying to tell a whole story arc (the story of Enishi that was never animated) in about an hour just does not work.
