Does anyone know what the deal is with the MBV: Loveless references in the opening animation of FFVII? I love the CD, and I love the game, but WTH are the two doing together? Did/does MBV even know?

Do you mean FF7: Dirge of Cerberus? If so, maybe because Vincent's last name is Valentine, and because he shoots a lot of enemies (referring to the word "Bloody"). Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

I don't even know what Dirge of Cerebrus is. I'm talking about the squaresoft, 1997, playstation one game. The commonly available RPG. The thing is, the CD was like 5 years old at the time the game was made. Bizzare.

What kinds of references do you mean? You're referring to the opening animation where Aeris walks out of the alley while the Life Stream music plays. Right?

yeah, there's posters all over the street that say 'my bloody valentine' and 'loveless', which is one of their CDs.

I think it's safe to say that someone on the production team is a fan. American band references in video games aren't at all uncommon. Take for example Killer 7, which is full of incidental references to songs by The Smiths, or the Resident Evil series in which references to Queen song titles and albums appear on characters costumes throughout the series. Just take it as the expression of the creative teams love for a band, and nothing more.
