I remember the thing that discouraged me from buying Inuyasha a long time ago was when I saw 17 volumes piled up in the stands. Now I know I made the right choice. XD

Whether its the manga or the anime I think this series is longer than necessary. When I first learn about it through watching the anime on Cartoon Network, it was interesting. I soon lost interest because there wasn't much to the story accept going on an adventure to destroy the enemy and collect the powerful shards of the broken jewel. I think the good guys don't stand a chance since they are so easily lead into one trap after another. In the end the only good thing about the series is its many good looking characters.

Anyways, just wanted to agree with bach. I liked Inuyasha's first few (READ: "FEW") episodes, then it turned to an f-in drama-thon where the heroes ran around like idiots and got their asses kicked 80% of the time. It was funny in Ranma 1/2 (I like most of that anime's mind-numbing antics), but seeing as Inuyasha's supposed to be more action... hoo-hum.

But it's definitely not the worst manga I've ever read.

I just started watching Inuyasha the anime a few days ago. I have 90 of the episodes with me, so I figure I'll try to watch them all eventually.

I'm not a big fan of InuYasha either, yet I still like (as everyone has already stated) the first four or so episodes.I actually enjoyed the latest movie, too.

47 volumes?? I didn't think it was that long.But each time I go to a book store there seems to be two different series, or did the sereis swich publishers in the middle?
Just out of curiosity, what manga is the longest series?

Inuyasha was originally picked up by Viz in the late-ish 90s (Inuyasha started in '96 or '97, I believe), back when they were still selling the larger volumes for $12-20 a pop, and all of them were left-to-right. Once the manga-boom hit, the manga companies started released standard-sized, smaller manga volumes for $10 a piece, and some of the releases started being kept in the right-to-left format.

After that transition really took off, Viz (along with Tokyopop and Black Horse) started re-issuing some of their older series in the smaller, cheaper format, and some of them even switched to right-to-left. Because Inuyasha was so popular, newer volumes were made in the new format, and eventually the earlier volumes were re-made. This was done for many popular manga, but many were also not remade, and have just fallen out of print.

So, long story short: Yes, Inuyasha is, indeed, rather long. I'm not sure if the manga has finished running or not. Also, the two different types of books you saw were the older one and the newer released one; the bigger one would have been the older.

No idea what the longest manga is, but I'm betting it's Doreamon or the like.

vol 40 or moe in japan^^ and there's only 20 something in the US??? And it's still going on in Japan. I think there's going to be another movie 2!
