Alright so here is a thread where you can vent about the terrible heart wrenching, cliff hanging, tear jerking endings that we all love to hate.

On the other side you can calm yourselves by leaving a breif note about the endings you did enjoy and why.

Cant wait to hear what you guys and ladies have to say

There are tonnes for me in each category, so I'll just list what's on my mind:

Best Endings:
Now and Then, Here and There - Properly wraps up a poignant anime full of pathos, leaving behind no loose ends.
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen - Probably one of the best out there, and it somewhat marks the beginning of its series counterpart. Most memorable for me.
Gungrave : Beyond The Grave - Marked the end of a bittersweet friendship between the protagonist & antagonist
Grave of the Fireflies - Highly emotional; 'nuff said.

Worst Endings:
Berserk - there really isn't any, I believe.
Witch Hunter Robin - Whatever happened to Robin and Amon eventually!?
Twelve Kingdoms - Self-explained, since originally slated to be a 68-episode series
Mai-HiME - Quite disappointing for a series that was exhilarating towards the end.

Dark Lord

Best Ending:
Cardcaptor Sakura- a fitting conclusion to the series in the form of a movie...

Worst Ending:
Fruits Basket- the ending never came close to answering initial questions... incomplete...

Lupin the 3rd

Best Endings:

1. Fullmetal Alchemist - While some people may have been dissapointed in the ending, not completely ending the way they thought it should be, I thought it was excellent. It showed that the bond between Ed and Al will last forever, no matter where they end up.
2. Cowboy Bebop - "BANG!" Need I say more?
3. Trigun - It ends the way that you expect it to, but is it ever satisfying.
4. Samurai 7 - Seeing the swords in the rocks at the end had a great impact
5. Now and Then, Here and There - As AC said, it leaves no loose ends, and ends in a nice, quiet, reflective state.
6. GTO - Just a great, fun ending to a great, fun series.

Worst endings

1. Wolf's Rain - WTF?!? How could this happen! We've been waiting through the whole series for some form of closure, and they hit us with this? And don't get me started on the OVAs.
2. Spiral - The ending makes this anime seem like the most pointless anime of all time. Almost all the questions are left unanswered.
3. Final Fantasy Unlimited - It just ends, with no clue as to what will happen, or what's really happened.
4. Escaflowne - People might badger me for this one, but anyone who has seen it might somewhat agree with me that two people should have been together...in the same place.

Questionable Ending:

Rurouni Kenshin: Reflections - I was dissapointed to see how this series ended, but at the same time I thought the very ending was pretty moving, and a good ending at the same time. It wouldnt have been as easy to question if the ending was good, if the series of events that lead up to the end weren't so out of character for Kenshin and Karou.

Best endings:
cowboy bebop: Jetfire summed it up perfectly.
PlaneteS - ending was perfect, rang absolutely true.
Whisper of the Heart - for sentimental reasons

Worst endings:
Evangelion - Congratulations!
Kare Kano - Popsicle stick theater sucks
Wolf's Rain - No answers to fantastic questions

Whisper of the Heart - for sentimental reasons

Crap. I forgot that one. It has a great message about remembering people, no matter how far apart they are.

Also, I'd like to add that quite a bit of Ghibli movies have great endings (Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa). They always seem to tie up all loose ends, or crush all your hopes and dreams, as in the case of one of the movies listed.

Best Endings
+Neon Genesis Evangelion (Original TV ending) - This is for two reasons; 1) I enjoy ending that leave me wanting more (in a good way) and that force me to learn new things 2) I'm an Eva-(Gainax-)fanboy.
+Azumanga Daioh - It didn't take itself to seriously in the end, which was perfect.
+Cowboy Bebop - Perfect closure for Spike, because that is all that mattered.
+Grave of the Fireflies - *cries*
+Fullmetal Alchemist - In the end, they accomplished what they truly set out to do.
+Saikano - *cries* Perfect Closure
+End of Evangelion - Perfect closure, unless you are either Shinji or Asuka.
+Serial Experiments: Lain - Close the world|txen eht nepo

Bad Endings
+Samurai Deeper Kyo - W. T. F.
+Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - Should have been longer.
+Genshiken - Should have been a lot longer.

That is all for now.

2. Cowboy Bebop - "BANG!" Need I say more?

Rurouni Kenshin: Reflections - I was dissapointed to see how this series ended, but at the same time I thought the very ending was pretty moving, and a good ending at the same time. It wouldnt have been as easy to question if the ending was good, if the series of events that lead up to the end weren't so out of character for Kenshin and Karou.
I really deserve a blow to my head for forgetting Cowboy Bebop's ending. The movie's (Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door) ending is worth mentioning too, I might add.

Plus, I agree with your take in RK: Seisouhen. Honestly I like how the series ended on a sorrowful note, despite the overly melodramatic progress. Just to add to my list, Hellsing has an unsatisfying ending because of no closure. The ending is still very much left to be desired. MONSTER has an ending that I can't complain anything on, but it did lose a little steam in the closure. Nevertheless, one of the endings that left a strong impression on me; to be put under the Best Ending list.

Grasshopper: I just find Berserk to be lacking some closure and the ending quite opened bare. If you liked it, then sorry to disappoint you.

Hey! I like the ending of Berserk. It may have been abrupt but it almost made me cry. And by almost I mean it actually did.

Best Endings:

Gaogaigar - The amount of asskicking, hotbloodness, triumph, tension, and satisfaction is almost indescribable.

Big O - The final 5 minutes really bring things home for this show.

Turn A Gundam - Possibly the best ending I've ever seen for any anime series, everybody has closure and the choice to play Tsuki No Mayu during the final 5 minutes was a good one.

I could go on but lets get to the bad endings.

Gundam Seed Destiny - Even though I knew this series kept getting worse and worse and that the ending was going to be terrible, this still managed to below even my worst expectations and could have easily passed for an episode in the middle of the series.

Tenjo Tenghe - Wait that was the ending, we spent the whole series in a flashback and then when the present plotline is going to take off it just ends????!!!

Aura Battler Dunbine - As much as this show was a good kill em all Tomino show, the way Sheila just decides to blow up the Guran Galan and everything else and end it all. I mean they could have found a better way. You can tell Tomino just killed everyone for the hell of it so they wouldn't make him do a sequel. Everything builds up during the last several episodes and the way everyone dies just like boom boom boom all at once feels anti-climatic. He did the everyone dies thing better in Ideon.

I liked Berserk's ending. It wasn't supposed to wrap up anything. What Berserk the anime to me is, a brilliant prologue to the adventure that Gatts undergoes in manga. Griffith's descent and the events established so much character in Griffith and Gatts, and the darkness of this demonic world, I really don't see much point in blaming the anime for not establishing what it tried to do in the first place. Or at least, I dearly hope the creators were thinking of it as a prequel. Oh, and my blood really boiled when
Kaska gets FINALLY raped!!!!ZOMG

And hated Trigun's ending.

Worst endings
Big O season 2. Having an end with no closure for season 1 was not a problem, because it was episodic in structure, and the ending only suggested a continuation of Paradigm City. It's by no means satisfying, but it wasn't bad. Seaon 2 did attempt an ending, and it was awful.

Evangelion. Both of them. Are these endings or LSD induced trances?

The ending for Rose of Versailles is awesome...

Oscar standing up and charging the Bastille, so soon after her best friend and new husband has died, and knowing she's destined to die of Tuberculosis herself. Very powerful and moving, but very sad ;-;

I can't really think of any truly bad ending off the top of my head, but maybe that's just because I'm more tolerant. The Kenshin TV ending wasn't all that great... it just got so bizarre towards the end, but I wouldn't really call it "bad," though.

No need to repeat other people forever, so...

Best:

Haibane Renmei: A truly emotionally charged and unforgettable finale that is both upbeat and poignant at the same time.

Worst:

Eureka 7: I despise it when creators ruin a classic by giving it a mediocre finish. The script was not bad, but the execution was absolutely horrible. WHY?

Best:
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen - Very emotionally moving. Helps lead into the TV series.
Cowboy Bebop - Bet you didn't see that coming.

Worst:
Rurouni Kenshin: Seisohen - Emotionally moving, but does a VERY poor job of rapping the series up as a whole.
Outlaw Star - A lot of things left unexplained, such as the Gene-Melfina romance and the ultimate fate of the MacDougalls.

i always liked the Yu Yu Hakusho ending

Full Metal Alchemist could of had a bad ending. (It seemed a bit rushed for me) But with the movie coming that will answer and finish the story. it was a good ending, to a great series.

bad ending
Hellsing: all we get is a quick end(in words) to tie up the loose ends of the series. I was really let down. Can't wait till the OVA comes out

Oh yes... I forgot to mention... I thank you for reminding me... How could I forget to mention the ending of Midori no Hibi? In the end, the story ended perfectly... Seiji and Midori managed to end up together... Midori is so cute!!! It even comes with an epilogue...

1. Fullmetal Alchemist - While some people may have been dissapointed in the ending, not completely ending the way they thought it should be, I thought it was excellent. It showed that the bond between Ed and Al will last forever, no matter where they end up.
Well...my opinions are mixed about the ending of it...yeah, there's a bond and I did like it, but, admit it (movie or not), it would've been nice to see the two of them together again.

Though...I did like the slight bit of Royai-ness in the ending...XD

4. Escaflowne - People might badger me for this one, but anyone who has seen it might somewhat agree with me that two people should have been together...in the same place.

If you're talking about Van and Hitomi, then I agree. They should've been together in the same place...XD

And I'll say that best endings:
-Tsuiokuhen
-Yu Yu Hakusho- I loved the last 10 minutes of it...YusukeXkeiko for life...

...yes, I apologize for subjecting anyone to my hopeless romantic whims...

Good endings...

Irresponsible Captain Tylor. The epic "non-battle" was brilliant both as a comedy piece and as a commentary on who "wins" a war. The cast coming together at the end and realizing that what they really wanted was what they'd had all along, brought a smile to my face.

I'll second Haibane Renmei. It ties everything up, is appropriately bittersweet, and demonstrates how far both main characters have come from the start of the show.

Porco Rosso. The ending fit the mood of the show and Marco's character perfectly.

Bad endings...

Saber Marionette J. This is actually a quite good show, and the ending was shaping up to be memorably poignant and tragic. Until they do an unexplained last minute take-back that seems to be solely for setting up sequels... sequels which still never explain what happened in the ending.

Key the Metal Idol. In this case the ending itself is actually good, but the last two episodes have so much superfluous explication that it smothers the show by the time you get to it.

Yeah, the ending did stump many of us, but the lack of closure is perhaps due to the fact that the actual manga story is a LOT longer than the series depicted. If you have the spare time, check up on the manga (gone through the 130th chapter mark) for more closure.

BACK TO TOPIC: Metropolis has somewhat of a very memorable ending, especially how Tima self-destructed eventually. Plus, the usage of Louis Armstrong's BG music is really fitting. I gotta add this in the "Best Endings" category.

I particularly enjoyed The Wings of Honneamise, it had a very memorable montage on the path of humanity's evolution. I can also praise Angel's Egg for its stunning revelation to the people on its forsaken world. And finally, Only Yesterday with the discovery of one's own life being realized, it was nice to see a character grow that much.

And yes, Berserk could've used an actual ending to close it off.
