Is anyone else having anger issues due to this game? I used to own it a year or so ago but sold it after I somehow managed to complete it. Recently I picked up a cheap copy of Ninja Gaiden Black due to the promises of new content. And now I have anger issues all over again...
Alma KO'd me in under twenty seconds without taking a single hit. I still haven't beat her.
It is almost a given that everytime I meet a pack of Spider Ninja I'll lose a good chunk of my health bar if I survive at all.
I've manged to somehow save before a crucial boss having used by all of my Ninpo and items except for ONE great spirit elixir.
Frustration caused me to avoid the console for a few hours...

Perhaps a break from gaming is in order?

You think that's hard and frusterating? Wait until you get into this warehouse, where there are flying sentinels that shoot lazer beams at you, no matter where you are. It wouldnt be so bad if the things didnt respawn. Thanks to the crappy camera in this part of the game, you have to rely on blind luck to know when to dodge the stupid things. Also, when they shoot you, they knock you to the bottom of the warehouse, as you're supposed to platform to get to the top.
As for Alma, I may have been just lucky. I beat her on my first try with a tiny sliver of health. It was pretty awesome. She swooped in to kill me, and I jumped over her or something. Then she came in for another round, and I fired a fireball right into her face. Needless to say, the cutscene that happened right after looked like my attack was the cause of it. My advice is to buy or obtain as many healing items as you can for the fight, and just use whatever means necessary before the battle to make sure that you're as strong and prepared as possible. Of course, strategy will also really help, but I can't remember how I killed her, as it was a year or two ago since I've played. I think you had to always keep moving. Throwing items may have whittled her down, spells helped, and I think there was always an opening every once in a while to attack her. All I remember is that she was wicked fast and really powerful.

This is one of my favorite games. Sure, it's tough even frustrating at times but that's part of the reason I like it so much, it's a challenge. The game takes practice to be good at and time to beat. It's not a game you can just pick up and beat inside of a week when you've never played it. My advice, either practice killing things in areas that you can beat, remember to utilize your combos and upgrade your weapons. Also, each weapon has it's strengths, make sure you choose the right weapon for the right job. Say if you're facing a bunch of "weak" monsters use the vigoorian flail, a couple tough guys that are slow, dabilaro, etc... etc... Overall the Dragon Sword is the best weapon but it's not always the best choice. But, if you think it's too difficult find another game but I think you'd be missing out.
There is new content in Black and I will probably be picking it up soon since I can get it cheap, but I think you have to beat it to unlock most of the new content, also black is more difficult than the original. Probably the most obvious difference I noticed when I played it was that you face the more difficult fiends sooner and then put even tougher ones in the place that they used to be. In the first level for example the white ninja's are replaced by the black spider clan ninjas with the incendniary shurikens and then the chain goes down leaving the weakest ninjas (blue if I remember correctly) nowhere to be found.
Oh, as for Alma, the strategy I used against her is your arial attack (the one where you jump and then attack straight at her) till she falls to the ground, the I use the full dragon sword combo on her, dodge her attacks as best I can, rinse and repeat.

Why wait? Ninja Gaiden Black is an Xbox title.
Thanks for the tips guys ^^
@Jetfire: Huh.Weird. The only frustrating thing about that warehouse was the golden scarab that was so damn hard to get. One hit with the windmill shuriken and those things die...
Also, if you kill enough of them, they stop respawning.
@Zirilan: Too difficult for me? Naw. I beat it a few years ago and I can do it again. Kicked Alma's ass once I stopped charging in and actually thought for a second how I should beat her. Hit and run attacks with the dragon sword when she landed seemed to work quite nicely. One nice addition to Black is the Lunar staff. Very useful for fast enemies.
Once you beat it, you unlock a set of 50 or so missions that focus purely on combat. Should be good fun once I beat the game ^^
