He's so lame, always posting shitty posts and acting like he's the shit even though he's 34 with kids and still watches anime.
I detect a double standard. Soooo..... at what age do people become "lame" for watching anime, Kentaro-kun?

Mid-twenties. With children. Besides, SC is lame even if he didn't watch anime.

So are you going to immediately go cold turkey with anime in 5 or 6 years? Plus, I think it would be sadder and lamer if you didn't have children and watched anime all alone in a little apartment for the rest of your life, instead of having a good, loving family of your own and being able to resume watching anime because you do like it.

I find it quite odd that Kentaro-kun came back to AA just to let us know how much he hates Soundchazer... since his last post was over a year ago (o_O")

You know what I find even sadder than that? The fact that someone allows the posts and comments of a single person dictate his actions. If you don't like what that person says, just ignore the posts. I'm certainly not asking people to read what I have to say, nor do I make it mandatory.

As for me feeling I'm the shit, well... it all depends on what you mean by that. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a person with a big ego (in fact I tend to be very timid, surprisingly), but I do think that my opinion matters regardless of what others may think (and I believe you should think the same about yours). I will keep posting for as long as I have something to say, and I would invite you to do the same Kentaro-kun. Don't punish yourself or others in here that may consider you a "friend" (or as close to friendship as you can get in the Internet) just because of a "lame" thritysomething. Seriously... it is not worth it.

You don't like me very much, huh?

Kidding aside, sorry if my comment seemed a bit rude. I just figured for a forum, that I would be able to post my thoughts on someone's outrageous comment, as they're surely provoking the general public for a response. This kind of thing happens here all the time, so it's not like I thought it was frowned upon. I just find it sad when someone has to stereotype someone for being a certain age and liking something that they don't like. Maybe I should have put my previous post in the words that I just put now if I really needed to say something. Anyways, sorry if that comment was out of place, but everyone here has certain buttons that get pushed, where they can't help but comment on an issue when they see it. Yes, I could have ignored the post, but at that time I felt like I needed to reply, and didn't figure that would be frowned upon as much as I did. In fact, that thought never came to mind.

Actually, I was just expanding on your comment. If you read the second paragraph, all of this was adressed towards Kentaro-kun's comment. I guess I did a poor job at it. And no, I seriously don't dislike 99.9% of the people here like some might think, and I have no problems with you.

Stop being silly before I kill... ye?

Well, it's been awhile since I've complained, but recent events - or lack thereof - have made it difficult to contain the compulsion. So... a revival of the Post Your Feelings thread!

Am I the only one who is uninspired by the lack of interesting discussion on these boards?

Or am I being too harsh?

People need to stop doing their homework like responsible schoolchildren (or actual work like responsible adults) and start posting on this forum more. On my mark:

Ready... set... GO!

Actually, ironically, the crazy newbies who wander in here (yes, I mean you, Hiroshi-san) are the only source of amusement AA's got right now. Cynically speaking, that is.

And true, these periods of inactivity come and go. I'm sure that in another month or so, we'll be talking about something interesting again.

As for me making my own intelligent threads.... it's too hard. It's much easier to complain and goad someone else into doing it.

Other than my first few threads, with a couple still holding strong, I'm pretty much a phantom here. I haunt AA people in their sleep and tell them to start watching Gunbuster or I'll swallow their soul, it's quite funny. Other than that, I'm here and there posting like its going out of style, though I try to say something meaningful most of the time. Of course, this thread is about feelings, so I guess I'll be as "expressive" as possible.

I'll search around, take some notes, and brainstorm something that might entertain the likes of you sophisticated folk (being I'm quite the uncultured bumpkin). That's cool, Philosophy is definitely an interesting subject, great to know there's a major in our midst. I'm sure he could topple my Coca-Cola comparison in no time (if he wanted to one-up me, he'd probably say Pepsi's a better choice, lol!). Heck, I have fun thinking all the different ways to see AA, but Coca-Cola remains my stance at the moment.

Basically a "Resident Socrates" is someone who would be the primary philosopher of, in this case, AA. It's all good.

Note: "Resident Socrates" is not a game about the dead remains of the same Philosopher trying to eat people because of some government virus...

lol! No, I speak better "Engrish" than Japanese, sorry. But here's a thought:

I believe there's always times when people act as Judge, Jury, and Executioner of others based on what they know. Perhaps it is true that there are those who aren't entirely fluent in their proclaimed art, but humans are capable of such mistakes, and I do understand there are people who seriously lie in hopes of gaining attention from others. This isn't me defending anyone in particular, but this is always something I debate whenever such things are visible in the boards.

I wasn't trying to state I was great at Philosophy, but that I attained an interest in it, so hopefully there will be no judgement cast upon me that I am an idiot incapable of learning or understanding such concepts. I always try to avoid looking stupid or insensible in a bid to be accepted by my peers, maybe not as an equal, but as a person capable of understanding conversation as it is laid out in front of me. So please don't mistake anything I post as flaunting, as I only communicate to reach some level of understanding and relation.

My apologies if I irritated anyone with my lack of proper expression, and if this leads to future problems, I will make sure to simply limit my conversational attitude in message boards until this lack of simple English speaking has evaded me.

So in this regard, I don't mind entertaining people (even I understand when someone is being playful or sarcastic in a lighter tone), but I'm not going to be someone's chew toy if they feel the need to have some fun within the higher level they have placed themselves before me. This post isn't aimed at anyone in particular like I said above, but I felt the need to state these thoughts in this thread, since we are talking about how people are feeling about AA.

I get along with plenty of people, and I understand there will be people who can't tolerate something that feels like second nature to them, but isn't quite attained at the same level by another individual. Sometimes knowledge can be dangerous if used as a tool to discriminate others for their lack of understanding, in which it is our need to better understand things that makes knowledge so valuable in the first place. In the long run, I'm sure there will be no problems that go too far, but this is still something that I felt like expressing. Nobody's perfect, and everyone has their moments, so let's just try and get along with what flaws we do have.

Thank you

Wow, Sae has big plans, hopefully there's enough money to join it...or maybe we should start a fund to help her out! Y'know? $1 from every member and she's got the chance to buy some crazy goods, and possibly a trip to Japan if we all chip in a dollar more? We could be making a difference! lol!

I knew you were joking Silian, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't misrepresenting myself on AA so far, being there isn't much presently known about me. Plus, I felt like debating the difference between someone sincere and absolutely nuts for attention. But I think everyone goes through stages of the latter at some point.

So I wasn't trying to attack anybody, but I felt like addressing those thoughts in this thread, given the subject it pertains to. Pretty much just adding to the subject for the most part.

But this doesn't mean I'm incapable of entertaining either, being there's still potential for me to be the definitive "n00b Saibot" for the boards, I just have my bouts of pondering that makes me a little much at times (I'm sure).

Reading some of the earlier posts(yes, I do have that sort of time), I see that this was many people's first forum, and it was rough for them to enter.

Interestingly(or maybe not), I joined this place after leaving(one of many times though)a diffrent forum, because to me that place was rough. Even though I was a two/three year vet there, I felt it was just too much. No one repsected each other, it was just flame after flame. Add to tha fact that there is no mods there, just one admin who barely appears. Although I've returned to that place several times after joining here(although I think the last time I left was the permanant leave, I haven't posted there in many months now), I'd have to say this forum is much more easygoing.

Though I only post in the music forum these days, I love the fact that I can post my long drivel about bands, and no one has out right dissed my music tastes, and like wise I'm not about to trash anyone elses. It's nice to see everyone post what they like, and not see someone else immediatly flame them for it.

I've met plenty of people here, mostly through IRC, who I can consider to be really good friends. And although I tend to disappear every once and a while, it's safe to assume I'll always come back!

Anime Academy is a very diverse group of people that participate in a not-so-diverse hobby, from the angle at least.

I like the personality behind the posts here. I don't come across that to often and it's a pleasure to see it here. Especially at such a large website where it is very easy to fall into the crowd.

I'm a fairly new anime fan, only a few months in to tell the truth so I have little experience with anything Japan or anime related. I can't say much about the discussion levels because of that but I am satisfied with the information I gather from the threads and other members. That's a step in the right direction me thinks.

The reviews are very well written and make sure to point out the important aspects of the series at question. That is a major plus in my book that puts Anime Academy at my top site for what to watch next type questions.

I have plenty to learn about this place but I also have plenty of time. I hope I can get to know all of you eventually and maybe learn something new in the process.

Hmm...? As far as I can remember, you have done nothing wrong, so I really don't see why you should be afraid of the mods in the first place. You're certainly not a noob, and a noob need not be necessarily mean having a small post count. Truthfully, a post count only shows how vocal you are, in the event that you have all the time in the world to visit AA.

As for elitists (oh yes, there is such a word), don't let them get to you. Just ignore them and go on with your postings. Just bear in mind to think twice about what you really want to say before you actually click the "Submit Reply" button. I'm still relatively new here in AA and I'm still learning on how AA works. Along the way, I've had good & bad experiences but hey, that's life, isn't it?

Bans are issued at the discretion, and following serious deliberation, by the mods for reasons that may not be all that apparent.

I sure hope I never have to speak l337 to earn some respect, because I'm just not into that, no matter how many years I've been on the internet.

But the first place I learned about it was the Megatokyo webcomic (which eventually got published), as there would be many occassions that made me confused to what the heck they were saying in certain panels, spawning my need to read up on it.

I don't care if others speak it for the record, but there's no way I'm joining in.

Me too. I don't hate 1337 per se, but I hate it when people speak it out of the blue especially when they know other people don't understand. I wonder what those kind of people would feel like if I suddenly spoke in Japanese or Filipino to their faces? (unless they're Japanese or Pinoy, of course)

Speaking out of completely unbiased loyalty to the thread I've nurtured from a tiny whining post.... Why should it be closed? Other little niggling threads will crop up here and there on the same subject. Might as well just have one huge one to consolidate them, right?

Besides, if anything, it should be allowed to die a peaceful death rather than being closed, since I see no reason that it would need a mod to step in and lock it down.

Mostly the reason I've left it open so far is because people have re-posted in it a few times bringing up more issues. However, if it keeps delving into spam, it will, indeed, be closed, leaving the next complainer to have to start his own thread instead of posting in this one.

Sorry, I don't know all the mods >< Just you, Mana, 'chazer and Lieg.

Just for future reference :3

Liegy and Soundchazer are actually Professors, not moderators. They do have moderating capabilities, mostly given to them because of their status on the main site, but most professors choose not to use their moderator powers on a regular basis. This applies to all of the professors of AA (except for Mugs who has Admin privaledges) and even ex-profs maintain this status. Technically I'm a part of this group now, too, although I will always remain an active moderator on the forums.

The moderators have no bearing on the actual website, just the forums. They are hired on by Corpse (another Admin), and are always people who know the rules well, show good judgement, and have been around for a while, so they know how the forums generally work. Besides Roark and myself, there is also Ritalin and Eri, and some more moderators who aren't active on the forums much anymore: Bikutoru, Vanisher, Naota, and Rence. And, of course, there's Dottytor as well, although he has resigned from his position.

We do have a page on the forums that says who the general People in Power are. It can be found at the bottom of the forums, the link that says "View Forum Leaders." Or, you can find it here: http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/showgroups.php

Elitism. We've all felt this. There's a chasm between the newbies and the oldtimers, a level of condescension that's almost palpable. As though the post count really is everything, or else time in service as a student, or else who you know.
Oh, c'mon.... get over yourself! The oldtimers don't treat the newbies badly... they educate 'em when it comes to forum rules... which, when necessary, has to be done. I, myself, suffered from this in the past... when I was a newbie. Of course the mods were not the same... but I remember Kain, Madoka and the others. I received some pretty harsh words at that time, however I learned from them and became a better member.

Repetition. And not just newbies repeating threads without searching for prior threads on the same topic, which is something all newbies do. It's the response by older members to these newbies, by passing off their questions with a quick link to an outside source, or a quick link to a previous thread, no matter what the question actually is.

I completely agree with linking repetitive threads to older ones. If the answer is in another thread why not give the link... after all, lots and lots of repetitive threads serve nothing... they just occupy space that can be used another way. Also, don't think it's easy for people to find those threads, the old ones I mean.... it actually takes a while and the reason they search for them is only to make this forum a better and more organized place.

Conversation. The above might explain exactly why conversation on this forum falters about one or two posts in. And forget trying to have a truly intellectual discussion, since everything of that kind dies before it gets started, or else wanders off into topics that aren't even slightly related.

Completely disagree there. I have had some pretty deep discussions in this forum. Actually I lost count of how many times I entered heated arguments with some of the guys.

Corruption. As witnessed when a response of mine to a specific member was completely deleted from the system, rendering it invisible even to other mods, even though another post of roughly the same content was left alone. The person or persons behind such a deletion remain unknown, and I received no notification of the reason for the deletion or warning against the post. It was quickly eradicated, as though trying to wipe it off of AA memory before anyone noticed the deletion.

The only thing that comes to mind: HUAHAUHAUAHUAHUAHUA
I know the mods we have now. I used to talk to them and have great conversations with them when they were just ordinary members... and I can tell you this... they are great people... a little crazy I might say... but great!

For the sake of clarification, I'll respond to some of Sanda's comments.

I find it rather sad that people would rather take the time (which usually is quite a bit of time to find the right thread) to search for a thread that's been buried for months, if not years... but they wouldn't take the time to just say that information in a comment. It would probably take less time, in the end, to just make a comment, yet they'd still rather hunt down the elusive old thread.

I think my issue with all of that was the fact that, when I was browsing through the forums all those years ago, I'd frequently find a legitimate (IMO) question that was hastily shuffled aside with a post linking a years-old thread. I just found it hard to believe that, after so many years, there couldn't be something more said about a topic. That kind of quick-link response just stifles discussion and makes the forum feel really dull.

Completely disagree there. I have had some pretty deep discussions in this forum. Actually I lost count of how many times I entered heated arguments with some of the guys.
I have had some interesting discussions on here too. At the time I made this thread, though, conversation seemed to be a struggle and the more interesting threads that offered real discussion possibilities were usually swept aside by the quick one-sentence-response type threads.

Funny thing is she is one of the most respected members here :)

Leaving for long periods of time is not due to the fact the forum isn't good. It's because life itself takes some wild roads at times and it's not possible to be around. However, I always come back BECAUSE I enjoy the forum and respect it. I may not have been around at that particular time, but I know the mods and all. Elitism. We've all felt this. There's a chasm between the newbies and the oldtimers, a level of condescension that's almost palpable. As though the post count really is everything, or else time in service as a student, or else who you know.

Repetition. And not just newbies repeating threads without searching for prior threads on the same topic, which is something all newbies do. It's the response by older members to these newbies, by passing off their questions with a quick link to an outside source, or a quick link to a previous thread, no matter what the question actually is. This doesn't foster an atmosphere of communication, except for the most determined of newbies; that kind of knee-jerk reaction is just the height of laziness. Does it really take so long to post again about something you've already spoken about once? You're telling me it's better to link to a thread that's died a year ago rather than type in an answer that's probably changed anyway?

Conversation. The above might explain exactly why conversation on this forum falters about one or two posts in. And forget trying to have a truly intellectual discussion, since everything of that kind dies before it gets started, or else wanders off into topics that aren't even slightly related.

I'm not saying that AA is better or worse than other forums. Merely that these elements are clearly present... and annoying.

WELL! SOMEONE woke up on the wrong side of the bed one day. No bigs, Silan. Everyone posts while they're pissed off from time to time. If some of this is still how you feel, or resembles how you feel now, well....not much to be done, is there? Hope that we can be pals! (Even though you're a senior and I'm just a lowly junior!) :D

As to my own review of AA. I enjoy having a place I can talk about anime and movies at any time of the day with a virtually infinite number of people. It's a lot of fun to compare opinions and discuss ideas born from all points on the globe.

Overall I'm pleased with the atmosphere, and have not found myself even remotely lacking for friends. Sae-chan is awesome, Roark and Mana are both really cool, laborpilot is a really nice person too! Psycho-saiyajin always provides interesting posts, and Milkymagic is the best damn threadwriter there is, hands down! Akimichi Choji, Mouse, Sanda, Smitty, Alex San Lyra, Niner, the list of AA veterans I have either befriended or would like to befriend is simply endless!!! And that's another thing I like about AA: it lets you get together with people of like mind (or at least similar mind) and discuss common issues of interest while building friendships.

I would like it if some of these incoming freshmen would post more than a few times, because a lot of them have interesting things to say! It always feels like a real let-down when I see an interesting freshman just disappear after 5 posts.
