Now that couldn't have come at a better time! I got broadband today, which was pretty much the only thing stopping me from watching the required two anime a month. Count me in!

You have to review 2 anime per month; you can basically watch as many or as little as you like.

If I win, Eri will room with me at Tak next year AND write more reviews. So yeah, I'm totally winning. :sly2:

Dtortot

Just as a reminder, IF you win and you are working for another site, you will have to cut either one loose, since Kain has a policy of slavery and abuse in the most egocentrical way possible.

Meaning, you can't review at AA if you are reviewing for another site and are not willing to dump that site.

sohryu
08-09-2006, 02:54 PM
Yar, I know. I'm willing to give up editing Drake's lovely reviews if it means being able to room with Erig... err, I mean... for the betterment of AS. More updates and all. >_>;

Yes, that's what I meant. <.<;

i would enter, but honestly, do you wanna read a review with lots of sentences ending with "...'s"

animanic_critic

It's called 'trademark'. Many of us has one; mine's "as far as --- is concerned" while sae's is "LOL!!!"

I think I might go for it this time. Could be fun, and I was planning on giving the OA away anyway.

ShinoMatrix
08-09-2006, 09:12 PM
Ha! Why not...

I've been writing reviews constantly for some time now the convention I'm part of and I've got time to write one up. I've realised over the past few contests and previous staff contest that there are better reviewers out there than me, but you'll never know till you try, right?

I say anyone from AS entering this heathen contest is an AS staffer AS can do without. So yeah, what Drake said.
It'll get Eri to write more! Which means more updates for AS! Which means a better AS! TEAMWORK.

gg all the advertising >_> *cough* click my sig *cough*

Anyway, I've forgotten the last contest already. You only ask for one review, correct? Or do you then narrow it down to however many contestants and have them write another review? Because I'd have to get writing if that's the case. <_<;

Niner
08-11-2006, 08:08 AM
rofl. soh, an AA professor. There's a laugh. You can barely build up enough steam to write one review at all. And then you won't show it to anyone, ever. Yeah. XD

You should go for a more realistic goal. Like Crepes' armrest or something.

Liegenschonheit
08-11-2006, 02:05 PM
Oh STFU niner!

Go go soh! Enter, then the womenz can take over AA.

Anyway, how it works is that you write one review, then Kain and Mugs narrow it down to five. They take all the names off the entries so we can't tell who is who, and the current staff reads those five and vote. Kain and Mugs take all that into consideration, and make a pick.

So yeah, one review.

Also, for those of you who are concerned with such things, there is no favouritism in the process. We can't tell who is who, and from past experience I can say that the votes are based entirely on writing and not who our friends are. If our friends suck at writing, too bad for them :P

I don't think it's about winning or losing... it's all about...

...winning. lol

That.. and I want a super duper title on top of my avatar that scrolls O.O

I don't post much, though. So I shouldn't be saying I deserve one. I only post in reponse to the most inpsiring or most insanely idiotic posts... which is pretty much what you see in most forums >.>

Hell, I'm in I guess. I just wonder what I'm going to review and then try to be as objective as possible.

I think the tough part will be thinking of a mediocre one to review. I know a good number I could write glowing reviews for, and the same for ones I could trash, but I'm drawing a blank on the middle. I know I've seen them, I just have to think a little harder, I guess.

Write up what you think of the whole aspect of anime. Try your best - I know I will.

P.S. Edited for the sake of everyone including myself. Jinkies...

Liegenschonheit

Animanic_critic, stop being an ass. Seriously. You're starting to piss me off, nearly every post I see of yours is you putting someone down or being a smart ass. Stop.

Sae, when you've finished the questionaire and review, send them to Kain at the email address provided. The instructions are all there, make sure you read them carefully and fill everything out before you send it in. Also, if I can make a recommendation, don't rush it. You have plenty of time to submit, so take your time writing your entry.

soundchazer
08-13-2006, 05:51 PM
Or you can do what I did and procrastinate until like a day or two before the deadline.

There is no particular way to go about it. Just be honest and true to your opinion on whatever anime you review.

And remember people, don't put yourselves down. You don't know if you will be able to make it until you try.

Oh, considering my previous few reviews and the mental state I've been in as of late, I think I have good reason to shoot down my own efforts. (That, and I also know that no one else cares about Slayers, so my reviews will be ill-received...) x_x

Kain

Oh, and as an aside: write your own summary. Invariably, ever Staff Contest sees an entry or two where summaries were lifted straight from our reviews in the Library. It amazes me that the concept of judging an applicant by his or her writing eludes some people.

Thanks for listening.

Two-twenty
08-14-2006, 06:44 AM
Quick question: Can we review an anime that is already featured in the Library or does it have to be a completely new one?

Kain
08-14-2006, 06:48 AM
Any anime is fine.

Natsuke Takeda
08-14-2006, 08:34 AM
Oh, a question. I heard that if you were to be accepted as a teacher, you would have to quit any other site you are working for.

I help head TheNinja-RPG.com, which is a multiplayer online game. If I became a teacher, I would have to quit that, or is it just anime/manga reviewing sites?

Yes, it's inspired by Naruto, but believe me... if I were to EVER review Naruto.. if it ever FINISHES, it wouldn't be all "Omgs is soo greats... ninjagasmic fun!" Believe me... naruto is pissing me off.. The game on the other hand roxxors.

*End worthless plugin for site*

yeah... I need an answer.. NOW! *points finger with a little shake and dazzle*

Kain
08-14-2006, 09:16 AM
Just anime review sites.

animanic_critic
08-14-2006, 09:22 AM
*AC raises his hand

Question: Is it mandatory that a professor is to write up two anime reviews per calendar month? What if an external circumstance disable me to do such for a temporary period of time? I have a national security issue I need to attend to which incapacitate me from reviewing two animes later on, only for a determined period of time. I'm not joking on this one.

*AC sits down

Mana
08-14-2006, 09:27 AM
In that case, I'd say that you should probably write extra reviews before that time period happens to fill in for the time that you won't be able to write.

If you can't write more reviews before hand, and you can't write reviews during the time that it's needed, then I'd suggest that you don't enter, since you don't have the time available to commit yourself to working for AA.

Kain
08-14-2006, 09:28 AM
Then you're fired.

Or you could just let Mugs or me in advance that real life priorities have taken over for a while. The key is to let us know, though, not to disappear off the face of the Earth.

I expect they'll want someone older, with a more refined review technique though.

No harm in applying, no harm whatsoever. In fact, anyone who is interested should at least give it a shot, it's not like we post a list of people who didnt make the cut or anything. Also, we've had young professors here before, so don't let age be a deterent. Both Eek and Keitaro were quite young when they were hired.

I was thinking of entering.
I've been honing my skills (see Nihon Review) ever since my last try, years ago. I'm not really sure of what to review though, because I covered all the new stuff. Y'know what that means! *coughMIYAZAKIMOVIEcough*

jetfire
08-29-2006, 06:04 PM
I'd be interesting to apply, but I'd hate to think that I wrote just one good review by a stroke of luck, got hired, and then will write terrible reviews afterwards. I might give it a shot anyways if I'm bored. It could be a fun opportunity for the future if it works out. Maybe then, people would actually remember who I am.

He's cruel and unusual like that. Well, at least you didn't lose any limbs in the process.

Contest...hm...I'd apply, but my next year is going to be really busy and work-laden, so I doubt I'll have time to breathe, much less watch anime...Besides, I'm too lazy to contribute regularly.

Side note: I am tempted to write a review for Yami no Matsuei, if only because there isn't one on the site that I've seen. But no, my grades'd suffer. Anyone else (*coughprofessorscough*) want to do it before too many cups of coffee a dash of boredom break my resolve?

There were 15 year olds reviewing before. Keitaro and Liquidblue (and Mandrake, was he 15? I think he was older... can't remember >_>;; ) were 15~16 when they reviewed. Keitaro continued until he recently retired.

I don't think that would be a good idea, since plenty of our members are not native English speakers. I know what it is like to see people being ridiculed for their lack of knowledge of the language and it is not funny, if you consider that they are trying their best to learn it.

I also disagree, sagey. I think seeing the review you worked hard on posted for ridicule and derision by the student body would be vastly humiliating. If it were me, even if my name weren't published, I'd still never want to show my face at AA again. I'm not prepared to humiliate and alienate people for a few cheap laughs.

Ieyasu, don't worry about it. It just goes to show that at AA, age isn't an issue, it's the quality of writing.

Well... I think this will be the first Prof Contest since I've joined AA in which I didn't participate. You will forgive me if I'm a little jaded with reviewing anime right now, after I had to do mini-reviews of about 40 anime titles in the past few weeks, many of which I've never seen before and had to research (yeah, it's for the convention program book I'm working for and for some weird reason, it seems no one in the committee watched anime this year).

Maybe next time... Maybe now I have enough practice... Khaaan! See, I'm practicing ;)

Illjwamh

Man, it's been so long since I actually reviewed anything. I waited until almost the last minute, but I still feel like my review was crap. :(

At least I managed to review a title that hasn't been done here yet.
