Right, I've never read a manga in my life. I know the difference between manga and anime but I am just wondering, is manga more like a comic book or is does it have more story like an actual book?

Just wondering as I am looking to get the Berserk manga's but am not interested if they as just a bunch of pictures with a few words ever other page.

Sorry to sound so blunt but don't want to waste any money. :P

Comics and manga are the same thing. Manga is just the Japanese name for comics.

Manga, however, do have stories and are not just pictures.

Go here (http://mangareviewer.com/) if you're still confused.

Manga = comic, only in black and white.

And the Berserk manga is brilliant. One of the best comics in the history of the world ever.

Manga are the inspirations for their anime.

Not in all cases.

No, you didn't make any sense, because its not more like a book than a comic. In fact, it's barely like a book at all and its the exact same thing as a comic.

in my opinion it's more like a book since it usually has a bigger plot than an american comic. in my opinion.

They are comics.

You shouldn't be so quick to throw them off, though. Give manga a chance, because a lot of the series are absolutely brilliant. Anime that has been adapted from manga is everywhere, and usually the manga version is a lot better than the anime version of those series.

Try a volume or two of some series you're interested in. If you still aren't interested in them after you've given it a chance, then whatever you do is up to you.

And if you're worried that manga is just a Japanese version of American comics, with all those superheroes, etc, then you've got the completely wrong idea, because manga has a ton of different genres to choose from. (Then again, I don't read many comics, so maybe I've got the wrong idea about comics.)

Anyway.... all I am saying.... is give manga a chance..... [/sing]

Well, your opinion is wrong. You are ignorant and misinformed.

Since when do comics not have plot? Have you even read a comic before? I'm guessing you haven't.

Edit- Damn you Silan, this was supposed to be a direct reply to Sae, but now I have to use the quote tag things. Thanks alot.

Ha ha...

Well, actually, I posted quickly because I wanted to respond to Sae too, but my conscience won out and I saved my sniping for later.

Back on topic!

Manga = good.

Please don't immaturly start a flame war over this. It's impossible for an opinion to be wrong or right. It's a personal opinion. I made it. You wanna start a flame over it. well too bad. I don't wanna. I wanna tell my opinion that i think manga's are longer for plot thickening purposes.

Yes, opinions can be wrong. And your opinion is!

You can't say, "Well in my opinion a cat is a dog."

You see how someone's opinion can be wrong?

Mangas and comics are the same thing. Yes, they often deal with different topics and genres, but they are still the same medium. Books, on the other hand, are completely different.

And, your arguement about manga's having longer storylines is ridiculous. Look at Azudai! There's absolutely no story there! You still haven't convinced me that you've read comics either. Which, if you haven't, you shouldn't even be arguing about this, because anything you say will be biased.

And lastly, I laugh at you calling me immature and accusing me of starting a flame war. Really, that's funny stuff.

Though I can see how you'd take what DarkKanti said as a flame, he has a point. Have you ever read some Art Spiegelman, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore or Frank Miller? Some of these guys are used in college courses. And though some have written novels, yes, we are talking about comics here. Art Spiegelman even won a Pulitzer Prize for Maus, which is about a Holocaust survivor. So there's a lot more flavor to comics than you might think. But then again, there are also some misconceptions to manga and anime, but, whatever.

And to the original poster. If you already didn't know. Manga is read "backwards" That is to say, you'd start off with the spine to your right instead of you left. The panels are then also read in an inverted ordered compared to comics.

By Jove! I think she's got it!

Seriously, an opinion is a thought, however a thought can be wrong. A fact can not. It is a fact that manga and comics are the same thing. Therefor the thought, "I think manga is closer to books than comics," is wrong. You see how that works?

Don't believe that fact? Wiki to the rescue! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga)

Pay close attention to this sentence: "Manga ([mãŋga], roughly mahn-ga) (漫画, Manga ([mãŋga], roughly mahn-ga)?) is the Japanese word for comics and print cartoons."

You still haven't given me any evidence that you've read an actual comic. You just keep coming back with your name calling and "opinions are untouchable" attitude.

P.S. I'm not looking for a fight or trying to get you mad. In fact, I've steered clear of flaming you entirely unlike you (The dumbass comment, remember that?). I also find it funny, that you think I'm stupid when you type like a monkey on crack.

Some are. In America, some manga gets flipped so regular people don't get confused. Also, thanks for support on the comic front.

DarkKanti & sae: You can go ahead and have your petty scuffle :bcuss1: (like I even care). I'll just mind my own business and help this new freshie Bear Logan...

Manga is a term for Japanese comics, and usually (not always) the source for developing into anime. While many anime titles are adapted from their comic counterparts, there are a few exceptions where anime titles may be adapted from video games (ie. Gungrave: Beyond The Grave) or even from scratch (ie. Tokyo Godfathers).

For more info, just refer to DarkKanti's link to our trusty friend Wikipedia.
