Well, since my last thread failed horribly, I'm hoping to generate a bit of actual discussion in this forum. Originally, Dead Rising for the XBOX360 looked kind of like State of Emergency to me, which was a concept that seemed fun, but became incredibly repetitive with it's combat engine. However, upon viewing videos of Capcom's upcoming action/survival horror game, I believe it does hold some promise. We all know that Capcom is famous for making engrossing survival horror games, as well as action games like Devil May Cry.

The game has a grand sense of scale to it. There's plenty of freedom to roam around the mall (and maybe outside it), use whatever you can find as a weapon, and the videos I saw contained tons of zombies (the most I've seen so far) with little or zero slowdown. The whole game reminds me of being in the movie "Dawn of the Dead". With all of these elements mixed together, it seems like there are tons of possibilities for fun and mayhem. I also like the aspect of how your character can level up, and how there are side quests to do other than the main quest, which can make it more than a mindless brawling game. This is one of the only 360 games I've been looking forward to this summer, and I was wondering what everyone else thinks of it.

Here's some more info on it, for anyone that is interested: http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/748/748396.html

It's definitely got a George Romero vibe to it. Hell, most zombie stuff nowadays does, he's the Pope to that genre.

I am pretty excited about the prospect of a game where you shoot zombies, but also do other stuff. That's something that's been pretty lacking over the last . . . well, I don't know how many years it's been. The sidequests in particular draw my eye.

The link doesn't work for me, for some reason. Can you tell me if it's an FPS or third-person like DMC?

It's a third-person game like DMC. But don't let that scare you off, because it only allows for more possibilities to interact with the environment and incorporate melee attacks. Here's another link to a different game site with the same game: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/deadrising/index.html?q=Dead%20Rising

I am eagerly awaiting this game. This game, Halo 3 and Forza 2 are basically the games I anticipate the most. The combat system seems to be very open-ended, which should help it from falling into a very repetitive pattern, and the art direction seems top notch (anyone else delighted by the zombies with water faucets sticking out of them, showering the zombie with blood?). Added to this, the idea of the dynamic "scoop" system of missions sounds like it will be a tasty lovechild of GTA and Romero, a match that so far, seems made in heaven.

If this game lives up to the expectations and to the potential, it could become a killer app for the 360.

That game looks really cool to me and if I had a Xbox360 I would buy Dead Rising on the first day, but since I don't have money I won't buy a Xbox360. But for me it would be really cool to play a videogame that is like Dawn of the Dead.

The Demo is out, and it's zombierrificly sha-weet.

The camera system rocks, and the "weapons" are beyond fun. They system of the game is nothing short of brilliant.

Stuffing a Zombie's arm in it's mouth and then ramming it with a red-hot cooking pan? Brilliance.

Blinding zombies with teddy-bear and horse masks then teeing off and trying to hit them? Sublime.

Trapping zombies with chairs and benches, using CDs as ninja stars to confuse them, then using them as pins with a bowling ball? This is the kind of stuff perfection is made of, folks.

And don't get me started on the coat hangers, the scythe, or the toy laser sword...

This demo accomplished it's purpose. I'm getting this game the first chance I get.

Although I do have fun playing the demo, I dunno, I kinda wanted more from it. Maybe less videos and a little bit more of the plot, like, actually being able to solve the case you are given or something, just so I could get a better idea of how that works. And more time or a lower level so I could know the "level-up" system.

But yeah, overall this game is mindless fun. And I enjoy that by it self.

Thing is, demoing a game like this is hard, and I do believe they took the best approach possible. I think the plot is hardly necessary to explain further in the demo, since there isn't much to it without going into spoilers: Zombies appear, nobody knows why, and Frank the reporter is dumb enough to bypass all security roadblocks and jump into the middle of it.

As for the time, I don't think they have much of a choice. If you get extra time or extra space, you're pretty much giving the game away. Being able to level up would've been nice, but frankly, it's rather unnecesary (more or less like the Leveling Up possible in N3 was), and with the necessary time limit, a waste of precious zombie-smashing time.

More than actually having more bits of the plot, what I would have wanted is how the whole case mechanics works. I wanted to know that, now, don't get me wrong the demo is awesome and by the looks of it the game will be too, I just wanted to know how that works, which in turn gives a little bit more plot, which by the look of it we are a little bit advanced in the game.

As for the whole level up, I just wanted to know if it is up to me if I can modify the stats or if it is system based.

BTW, the Book-system is cool and while it gives an advantage it also gives a disadvantage since you need to have the book in your inventory for it to work, making the weapons system even more balanced.

I just bought this game today. I brought it home, popped it into my 360, watched the first 5 minutes of an interesting cutscene...then the game froze, my system made clicking noises, then the beautiful green light on my 360 went red...

Luckily, after a call with the xbox hotline, they recommended that I unplug the wires from the back of my 360 for 10 seconds (because they said that it may not be hardware failure but a damaged or loosely plugged in AV cable), then try it again. I tried this form of CPR, and by a miracle, my 360 has been working fine since, although I am still very nervous if that scary red light will return...

Anyways, back to the game. It's awesome. The story really feels like something out of Dawn of the Dead. The game gives you "72 hours" to solve the whole mystery behind the zombies, and the gameplay element is frantic and fun. Although the game doesnt offer as many weapons as I thought I could grab (I thought literally everything was going to be a weapon), it still provides a ton of great weapons that are very entertaining. Chainsaws, lawnmowers, golf clubs, soccer balls, skateboards, grocery carts, benches, katanas, etc...and the game provides so many zombies to kill, that it's almost impossible to kill all the ones around you. It's not a bad thing, since you'll never run out of undead to defeat.

This is one game to enjoy in a comical sense and not take seriously. It's certainly one of those games that you can pick up for very short periods of time, or long periods of time, to get a good fix. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to have good, brainless (no pun intended) fun.

The inner demons of the 360 still run rampant. See what happens when you succumb to the incubus known as hype?

I've played a bit of Dead Rising and I am impressed at the concept. Fighting zombies with all sorts of items. The only thign that sucks is that the saving system sucks. Not many savin point and there are ssome jerky physics. It's still a great game for that kill-em-all-in-one-flail-scoop zombie type of game genre. 8.5

It wasn't hype for me. There were just a few games/game series that I really needed to play. And my problem was that I bought one of the early systems. My system is still working fine since the incident, and I'm really hoping that it was only a loose cable that caused that red light. Anyways, let's stay on topic:

I'll admit that the saving system sucks. I don't mind the whole "saving in the restroom or office" thing, but when the mall is so large and confusing, it's often hard to find a save point when you really need it. And yes, there are some jerky physics (sometimes when I mean to do a jump kick, Frank will land right in the middle of a crowd of zombies, instead of plowing through them. Otherwise, a great game.

The best thing about the game was the fact that it read my mind. I was playing my friends copy and mentioned to him that it would be sweet if I could slap around the zombies with a large bit of salmon. He told me there was no fish, at this point I walked outside into the pond and lo and behold, I found a salmon.

2 points of stamina, but it rocked anyway.

I bought the game last Sunday, popped it in, signed in, and the screen went blank and I got the 3 red lights. None of the remedies worked, so now I have to replace the unit through Mastercard's warranty system (1 month past MS warranty). An error with the AV cable produces 4 red lights. If you see 3, it's not an AV cable problem.

So I'm still waiting to play the game. The demo was fun, but Dead Rising 2 NEEDS co-op.

Wierd...I wonder if it was because of the update that they ask for you to load to play the game or something...it happened to me during the cutscene when he was on the helicopter. If you still have the system, you should try unplugging the cables from the back of your 360 for a good 30 seconds, then putting them back in tightly and trying again. I thought I had 4 red lights, but my fiancee saw 3. I was in so much frusteration that I don't know if I saw 4 lights for sure. Regardless, even if 3 lights pop up, it may be possible to fix using the method I've listed. My 360 has worked fine since then, but I'm still nervous that it could happen again.

I never saw any update notice - I wasn't connected to Live at the time either. Mine didn't die in-game, I was in the menu going to Options when it crashed.

I tried all the steps listed on the site and that the CSR suggested. Unplugged and replugged everything, plugged straight into wall instead of surge protector, etc. One time it brought up the logo but crashed before getting to the dashboard (I had taken the game out). I unplugged everything again and left it overnight, still didn't work.

My advice would be to buy an extended warranty, either from MS or the retailer you bought it from. Of course, this is obvious for me seeing as how mine broke. But you've already seen the red lights once - that would be enough warning for me. I hadn't had the red lights once before it died.

Yesterday, I went out and bought a 360 and Dead Rising.

That said, I fricking love this game. I've only gotten through the first case thus far, and even then I've only managed to save one person (the lady in the park whose husband was killed).

I love all the different weapons and things in this game that you're allowed to kill zombies with. It has a bit of a GTA feel to the control scheme, but it definately has better fighting physics than GTA.

I do however have a few questions.

Question 1: When do you learn more skills? I only have the one where you can jump on top of the zombies. I keep seeing the loading screens with the face plant and the round house kick thing and I end up with one that's fairly useless. What gives?

Question 2: What's the best way to gain experience and level up? Taking Pictures? Killing Zombies? Saving People? So far it looks like saving people gives you the most and killing zombies gives you the least, which is a little dissapointing considering I suck at saving people.

Question 3: How do I recharge the battery on my camera?

Just keep lvling, the more powerful moves are not surprisingly higher lvl.

Saving definitly gives the most HOWEVER you can rack up points killing zombies if you do it in interesting ways such as with the scythe or burning their faces with a hot frying pan. Most of the special attacks such as disembowel, knee drop, etc will also help you rack up PP.

Question 3: How do I recharge the battery on my camera?

Any of the camera shops will have batteries, one is right next to the entrance to the warehouse.

Well, I have just finished the game.

It's a really great experience. The font size is impressively annoying, and the AI characters requiere... um.. special attention, and the game REQUIRES Co-op, but other than that, I really have no major complaints about the game. I have never been a man to save too often, but the save points are spread out well enough, and once you get the mainteinance key reaching them becomes much, much simpler. Most weapons are pretty fun, although you'll probably stick to a couple (uzi, shotgun, nightstick, lead pipe, swords, and the motorbike) throughout the whole game, using most of the others as temporary options while you reach the new ones.

Some of the missions are rather tough, and later ones start becoming too fast-paced, which gives you very little time to play around (and in some cases, to actually help people).

Rather enjoyable, the game, and since I'm sure that most people won't be able to perfect it on the first run (let's be honest, nobody will), the replay value is pretty high.

Yeah, if you're not playing on an HDTV its almost impossible to read the text, but if you are its crystal clear. I think most of the 360 games are meant to be played in Hi-def so it might be a recurring problem if you don't have an HDTV (which I just got).

Yeah, I know. PGR3 has pretty much the same problem here and there. Sadly, I do not have an HDTV. Well, technically I do, but the shipping has run into some hitches, so I'm still playing on my good old CRT SDTV.

Haven't played the game personally, but I have seen my friends play it quite a bit. It looks awsome in the sense that you can pick up and use almost anything as a weapon, kill as much as you want, and it has a decent story from what I've seen. I do agree that the font size is crap, even though it's pretty much made for HD TVs. Also I thought it was strange(but also kind of funny) how the game seems all serious at first until you find the Megaman helmet ant the Megabuster that fires nerf balls...hilarious.

w00t.

It seems I'm rather closer to this than what I thought :D

I'm on my second playthrough (being under level 50 going into infinity mode is not gonna be pretty), and with a decent amount of psychopaths gone (Adam, Jo, Cletus, Machete Man, The Market Manager, The Family... do these three count?), I'm rather close to the 10 psycho mark... and the 59k zombie thing isn't so hard if I put my head to doing it (bless you, Convertible and Motorcycle).

Oh and I already knew about the lightsword from the store, and it doesn't actually do damage. Its just meant to be used as a flashlight, since it lights up your area even if its just in your inventory. Plus it only stuns when you use it as a weapon.
