I'm trying to figure out what upcoming convention i would wanna go to.

my problem is i have looked on the internet trying to find a good convention to go to but none of them seem to be a major event. I don't have any idea on how to really start looking for one i would enjoy going to. I am just a novice to the anime and manga world, and i buy or rent my stuff from local stores like hastings and fye. I have no clue to how people get information on the most popular conventions to attend. Please can someone help me out with a goodwebsite or sites that i could checkout for information on what the hottest cons are to hit in the us.

Anime-Cons (http://www.anime-cons.com/) is probably the biggest site about anime conventions. They track down news and have lists of upcoming ones from the US and some around the world as well.

Other pages that might interest you:

http://www.cosplaylab.com/events.asp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anime_conventions

Or you can always search on Google for "anime conventions" and see what that shows up.

The two biggest cons in the US are Anime Expo (also known as AX) and Otakon (also known as Tak Tak). Try going to a small convention first, to get an idea of what's it like, even if no interesting guests and companies will attend. Pick one that's near you as opposed to travel thousands of miles without knowing what to expect and how to behave in one.

The three main anime conventions in the US are (in order of size):
Anime Expo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Expo)
Otakon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otakon)
Anime Boston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Boston)

Wikipedia has a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anime_conventions) that you may find useful.

Pfft, Anime Central, is SO bigger and more awesome than Anime Boston. Though, in terms of sheer hugeness, neither is even close to AX or Tak Tak.

Honestly, if I were going to pick a specific con to travel to, I'd make sure there's a reason for me to be there; either a guest that I really want to see, or people I want to meet up with. Especially if I'm going to be paying hotel fees and whatnot.

Make it worth your while, and you'll have a blast.

Actually Tyr, AX, Otakon, and A-Kon are the biggest conventions in the US.

However, A-Kon is generally recognized as a complete cesspool, more filled with skanky underage girls and rude staffers than the rest. I haven't been there, but that's it's reputation.

Anime Expo I've been to for five years in a row. A lot of people dislike it and a lot of people like it because it is so corporate; there's a much larger industry presence than most other cons. On the bright side, it attracts a generally more functional presence and can often get bigger guests than purely fan-hosted ones, plus it is apparently much much larger in terms of things to do than most other cons, according to someone I was chatting with in line.

I'm going to Otakon for the first time in a couple weeks, I'll be sure to report back then.

Whoops, forgot about ACen and A-Kon. Bah! Bah, I say!

Really, the main reason I go to Anime Boston is because I don't have to go anywhere. No travel expenses or anything, so all I pay is admission. Not sure what I'll do when I move to Cleveland, though.

Sigh, you people are so lucky to get to go to anime conventions... My place doesn't even bother to hold such a potentially spectacular event. Wish I can go to one someday...:(

You could try Cleveland Colossal Convention (http://www.colossalcon.com/2006/), Ohayocon (http://www.ohayocon.com/) or Anime Punch (http://www.animepunch.org/). They may not be the biggest cons in the US, or have popular guests, but I guess it's better than nothing. Of those three cons, it seems Ohayocon is the biggest one, at least it is the only one with a Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohayocon) entry.

Considering the pre-paid packages, most affordable, hotels, buying and shopping, what conventions would offer the most and fulfilling experiences.
