Well, think of most smaller items as costing five bucks more than usual . . .

Well, I never bring any money to conventions... but then again I'm a window shopper type of person.
As for the people I used to attend with. They were fairly wealthy so they brought at least 150$ with them. I can imagine that would be enough.
My first con, I had a lot of money, so I ended up buying quite a bit, including some pretty expensive stuff. Later years, I was poor, and just looked, but this past year, when I finally had money for ACen, I was very disappointed in the dealer's room, and ended up buying almost nothing, despite the fact that I had quite a lot of money to play around with, though we did end up buying a rather expensive Rose of Versailles cel.
It depends on the con, I suppose, as to how much I'll bring. This year, at Tak Tak, Roark and I will probably have a couple hundred dollars or so for food and stuff, and we can always withdraw more from an ATM if we need to. Debit card, hoo!

Bring whatever you want to limit your spending to. Keep in mind, though, that you might not need that much. I spent about 17 bucks at Anime Boston 2006 on a couple used DVDs and a pencilboard, plus another 10 or 15 on food.

Well all together with a Platinum Pass (or VIP it varies from con to con), gas money, hotel(also varies by how many days you stay), money for food and then spending money: Anyware between 200-400$

Um, anywhere from $100-300. I mean, I tend to pick up tons of manga since they're always cheaper at the Con.

At my first con I spent quite abit of money, because of the 1) rush of it all and 2) amount of stuff; and yeah, there was a lot I liked.
I burned through $200, and I could have easily bought one or two other things that I still had my eyes on. I've settled down a bit now, but I still can't get out under $100 from even smaller cons.
It really matters on the size of the con though.

It's easy to calculate how much to bring.
Just multiply the amount in days spent at the con with the amount of money you figure will get you properly drunk. Multiply the end result with one and a half just to be sure and add all transportation an lodging cost.
And here's the formula:
1,5 * (days * drinks) + transport + lodging = grand total
