Same as the last thread. Except I want a reason why you like the song(s). It could be their beat, the vocals, the lyrics, or maybe you just got it stuck in your head.

Explosive (Orion and Ed Leal Mix) by Bond

Classical pop at its best. Love the violins. I wish it were longer.

Thanks for the new regime, Eri. If there's nothing I like more than talking about music, it's talking about music! :XD:

Today Trem has been in an uncharacteristic summer mood.

Lily Allen - 'Everything's Just Wonderful'
Brilliantly ironic stuff with wonderful lyrics and nice shifts in moods - lots of handclaps, summery keyboards and harmonies juxtaposed with dark lyrics all about being refused a loan to get an apartment. "Oh Jesus Christ almighty, do I feel alright, no not slightly..."

The Pipettes - 'Pull Shapes'
The triumphant return of 60's girl group pop mixed with modern bubblegum punk makes one lovely, lovely, catchy song. So simple, but so completely sublime.

The Honeytraps - 'Wishing'
Really top-class first song from Britain's first transsexual girl band! :D Kind of like The Killers mixed with eighties electro-goth, with an extra androgynous edge. Great stuff.

Oh boy. You want people to post an actual reason why they like a song? That's not going to last very long. I give it.... three more posts before someone screws it up.

AA community, prove me wrong.

Anyway:

Dir en grey - ain't afraid to die
I've been listening to this song a lot lately. It is the most beautiful song Diru made. I love the truly touching lyrics, and Kyo's performance of those lyrics. I love the melody. It's just an all-around good ballad, from a band that doesn't really make a lot of ballads.

X Japan - Art of Life
A true masterpiece, this is the best song X Japan ever wrote. It also clocks in at 28 minutes for the album version. Lately, I've fallen in love with the live version, the only performance of which you can find online at youtube. It's absolutely gorgeous, from the guitar solo to Toshi's vocals to the piano solo that metaphorically represents the chaos and beauty of life.

Seasons of Love from Rent the movie. You think of Rent, you think of this song. The movie version sounds a bit better than the musical version. Absolutely, love the chorus.

Mmmm, quality postage right hurr.

Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara & Yuuka Gotou - Hare Hare Yukai
Such a fun little song, and whenever I hear it I picture the ED sequence to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is one of the best I've ever seen.

Alanis Morissette - Crazy
I really do prefer her take on this song to Seal's original version. Hits all the notes well, accompaniment is good. Just sounds awesome overall.

Sarah Slean - I Will Love You
A sweet, sappy little ballad. Sarah Slean's voice is really quite lovely and pleasant to listen to.

The Wreckers - Tennessee
Michelle Branch + country = surprisingly good winz.

Ha ha, you just like the little dance they do.

Arg, I guess I've got to post something worthwhile and on-topic now, too.

Sex Machineguns - Suspense Gekijou
An awesome song by an even more awesome Japanese metal band. I love these guys because they're not afraid to not take themselves seriously and to have fun with their music, and they're extremely talented to boot. Their guitar lines are truly awesome. And their PVs are always hilarious. I've been listening to them a lot lately.

Natural Playboy - from some video game called Bust a Groove/Move
It's a really catchy little tune. I found it for someone else, ended up listening to it, and it's been in my head ever since.

Oh My Love - John Lennon
I first heard this song in a movie. I thought it was really beautiful but I couldn't identify it whatsoever. I googled thinking it was a Beatles song (John Lennon's voice is uber recognizable, I just didn't think it was a solo piece), found nothing, and pretty much gave up. Then I heard it in an episode of Gilmore Girls, went to the batshit fangirls forum and asked someone what song it was. The moral of the story? <3 batshit fangirls

And omgwtf, Eri did mod work!?!?

"The Words "Best Friend" Become Redefined" ~ Chiodos

I love the guitar in the begining and the lyrics are totally freakin' sweet.

"To a chair we see your breath in the air, but only for a little while
Your cold pale skin and tainted purple lips
Let me embrace you with this kiss
And together we'll float like angels"

Its a very short song, and the lyrics are easily memorized which I also appriciate. It also has an awesome little break down part with claps and than it twists back into distroted guitar and screaming... ah, makes me giggle. Anything with angels in it peaks my attention too.

Another of my top favorite songs would be "Running From the Rain" by Thursday I like this song because of the build in the begining and how it crashes into the song and the gentleness of Geoff's voice and how that builds throughout the song too... its just melodious and lovely. The lyrics are quite sweet too, ya know all about togetherness and love and all that jazz ;)

[Who Knew--Pink]: She has proven that she isn't another pop-idol-teeny-bopper. Her voice is amazing in this song; one of her stongest, she deserves props.

[Paradise (Not For Me)--her Madgesty]: Before people critize Madonna portraying a geisha, watch the video. It seeeethes compassion, and the techno-trance lyrics are done to a tee. I'm effin' loving this, and effin' hating Warner Bros. for not releasing it as a single. Really, guys.

[Walking With A Ghost-Tegan & Sara]: It's been a while since 'So Jealous', but I still love this song. I can't get it outta my head, seriously. Ah, well, it's cool, anyway...

I'm also on a Spice Girls-trance. Geez, I'm listening to all their albums, as we speak.

Makyo - Nourah
Middle east vibes on an easy rolling elctronic background. Makyo has a fine way of driving a song forward with minimum effort. It's all about kicking the inner perfectionist in the butt, letting the song progress in a more straight forward manner, without drowning it in digital effects mayhem.

The Greenhornes feat. Holly Golightly - There Is An End
Modern rock reflecting a shameless mid 20th century Americana feel. Found this song while watching Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers, and it's now stuck both on the playlist and in my head.

After I hear that intro, I have to listen to the whole damn song. In fact I usually just listen to the whole Fly by Night album afterwards. Early Rush is such underrated Rush.

Kasabian - Empire
I've never been a massive Kasabian fan. Their music doesn't entirely click with me, and the fact they were basically EVERYWHERE during 2004 kind of made me get very sick of them. But their new single is wonderful: stompingly dramatic with a real glam pomp to it. Apparently it reuses a Status Quo riff, according to my dad, but I don't care. :p

My favourite song right now would have to be "Photograph" by Nickelback, which is weird because I have never cared for Nickelback at all. However, this song just stands out with it's lyrics that flow together so well, great singer's voice, and the guitar player really stands out. I also love how around 2:43 in the song, the song slows down and offers a whole new almost more serious feeling to the song for the next 20 seconds, and then picks back up again. It's hard to describe what I like so much about this song right now, since I'm not an audiofreak that can examine individual parts about a song. I guess if I had some words to describe it, it may be powerful, classic, and has a tune that can make think about past events. This song has probably been overplayed on the radio and such, but I've hardly heard it for some reason, so for now, it stands as one of my favourite tunes.

I'm on such a Rie Fu kick right now. I do so love the seamless English-to-Japanese transfers in her songs. Go go bilingual singers who actually speak English as opposed to those who Engrish it up. :3

Rie Fu - Until I Say - Such a sweet, upbeat little love song. I'm such a sucker for these.
Rie Fu - Life is Like a Boat - Never seen Bleach, but damn I like this song. Simple message, beautiful execution.

Don't You See? - Zard
Absolutely love this song. The melody and lyrics work so well together. There's one part that I like the most, where she sings in English, "Don't You See? I'll never worry tonight. I'll let me down tonight. You know I do it for you." Don't know why, but I LOVE that part!

Thanks for the hint. I'm not so surprised, considering Velvet Revolver's new vocalist was a former Stone Temple Pilots vocalist himself, Scott Weiland.

Plush - Stone Temple Pilots
Just went through my ol' music collection and came across one of my all-time classics. After listening to it, I was mesmerized by the good ol' times with its angst lyrics and mellow riffs. Currently my favorite song this time because it reminds me of one of the main reasons for Velvet Revolver's success, which is the vocalist. Currently lookin' for other STP songs...

I've currently gotten hooked on One Year by Shaded Red. To anyone who knows me: Gasp! It's in real English! and Gasp! It's a Christian band! Horror!

But it's just such a good rock song. It opens up with a gorgeous trumpet solo that's as bittersweet as they come, it's got a good melody and instrumentals in the background, and it's got a rocking chorus. What's not to like?!

Get Into The Groove (Madonna) has totally been stuck in my head, for some reason or another. So is Joga (Bjork).

My new obsession is A Public Affair, by that wretched hoooobag Jessica Simpson. I know, shoot me. I can't help it. It rips off each and every early Madonna song, ranging from both Holiday to Lucky Star...

It's getting pretty old by now, but for chart toppers, Shoulder Lean by Young Dro is a really badass song. Young Dro's lyrics are simply profound.

I lay by my banana, dumpin' and punkin' monkeys
Don't nobody live with my mom but a bunch of junkies
donut donkey, bitch I ride glaze on the haze
gator green Chevy, gator gut, alligator chain

Yung Joc also has some good tracks on his album, Hear me Coming has a unique quick stlye to it I like, and the chorus/hook is great. Dope Boy Magic is also very catchy.

* Tremolo is appalled to see some people slacking off with the explaining why it's their currently favourite song

This is not good, guys, not good at all! Get your act together! >_>

The Killers - When You Were Young
Kind of like The Killers meets Bruce Springsteen, only much better than you'd imagine. The synths meld surprisingly well with the more "American" feel of this track compared to their previous stuff. Needless to say, I have their forthcoming new album Sam's Town pre-ordered.

Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober
Sigh. I tried so hard not to like this song, mainly because I don't think this band are anything special, nor is Amy Lee (she can sing, but so can lots of other people, and a womang fronting a rock band is hardly a novelty), but this is probably the best song they've released so far. It feels a bit richer and more dramatic than their other stuff, which pleases me. I still won't be buying the album, though.

U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)
It's a classic, innit. Great anthemic chorus, great solo, great voice... eighties stadium rock at its biggest and best.

OLIVIA inspi' TRAPNEST - A Little Pain

It comes as no surprise since this is a favorite among anime lovers out there. Her song is sultry and the orchestra in the background compliments the overall music very well, like mint to roast turkey :acmaneat ... in fact, it kinda embodies the melodrama that NANA has. The opening is still very head-bangin', but this one pips the former 'cause the lyrics flow alot smoother. Kinda wonder why OLIVIA wasn't so popular before even with such a beautiful voice...:suspiciou

Daaaamn, featuring Akon has done it again. I don't really like Akon's music on his album, but whenever a good rapper features him, it normally equals a great chorus.

First is was with Young Jeezy on Soul Survivor, then the Young Bloodz Presidential remix, now Rick Ross - Cross That Line. Solid rap with a melodic twist of Akon makes for some good songs.

Light of Love - Maaya Sakamoto & Yoko Kanno (Brain Powerd)

Wow! This is perhaps one of YK and MS' best works. It's pretty long, but somehow everytime I listened to it, I never realized that nearly 8 minutes have passed by. The only letdown to it is that it's a theme song to an otherwise lacklustre anime series.

I always have the feeling that this song is misplaced and should've been a song for Vision of Escaflowne instead (that would be highly appropriate)... not to mention VoE's music is composed by the same people.

Because of the lyrics, the melodies and the vocals who can switch between singing a melody to screaming his lungs out instantly.

For pretty much the same reasons as their other song, but the lyrics especially.

It's the catchyest song I've heard in a long time. Got a great beat.

Lamb of God - Again we Rise

I got the Lamb of God album yesterday, and had the time to listen through it this morning. As soon as I heard the opening riff, I knew it was going to be an awesome song.

Randy maintains his old style of singing, but adds a new twist, which makes this song much more interesting than any song from past Lamb of God albums.

For one of the first times, I could actually hear Mark's guitar in the mix. He's usually drowned out by Willie for the entire song until he starts his solos. His playing really shines through and proves once and for all that Mark is one hell of a guitar player.

Another first is that you can hear Campbell's bass part. I've seriously NEVER been able to hear his bass in any of the studio work lamb of God has done. Finally being able to hear a bass part to go with a Lamb of God song just made it that much better.

And Chris' drumming is just as impressive as always. His playing in Again we Rise is more technical than the songs from past albums, and really blends well with everything else that's going on in the song.

Lately I've been practicing some late night/ early morning escapism with songs by Kaya Project, Makyo and the two Matts - Coldrick and Spiller.

Makyo - Suzou River is my current favourite. It's quite long (around 19 minutes) and quite minimalistic. Still, it puts me thousands of miles away in China, in the middle of one of the most urban places on earth, among strange people. All the water flowing in the song somehow makes me feel at ease among all the strange people though.

It seems the more I listen to this album (Give Up), the more I like it. >_< Peculiar thing, I was looking for new "happy" music when this group was suggested to me. The majority of the songs on this album at first seemed like the kind that would put me in a really "blah" mood, (Think music you'd listen to while driving alone on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, this is the only thing I can liken it to) yet now I can't stop listening. Pretty mellow music, and the lead singer's voice is very soothing.

Oh, and...

I GOT THE PROMOTION! :D!!!!!!!

Sorry, just found out a few minutes ago and needed to share >.<;

Arguably the best song by Floyd. Ever.

Impressive, considering that it's sung by two people, one being a native Russian speaker and the other not. Add to the fact its composed by Yoko Kanno and you have an instant win.

Ouran VA Cast - Mata Ashita!

Such a nice little ensemble song. The male seiyuu are actually a bunch of good singers and the song just gives off a happy, silly vibe. I was kinda disappointed Maaya Sakamoto didn't sing, but her chiming in every so often as Haruhi was so irresistably adorable, it made up for it. :3

I knew there had to be a native Russian speaker in there somewhere, since Russian is just too ****ed up of a language. Didn't know it was 2 vocalists switching off though... I'll have to see if I can catch that next time I listen to it :3

To keep at least minorly on topic, another favourite song of mine lately is Subway to Sally's "Maria." I can't understand a lick of it, with it being sung in German at all, but it still makes you feel a kind of melancholy sadness just listening to it, the way the words are sung and the music plays. Good song. I always meant to pick up some of their other stuff, but never got around to it ._.;

Ahh, the Russian singer in that song is Origa, a close acquaintance of Yoko Kanno's. Just to add, they also collaborated for GITS: SAC 2nd GIG's opening theme. Personally, I like the latter but the prequel's opening is just as fantastic. Just to let you know ;)

Well, it's a bit difficult to distinguish between Origa and Benedict Delmaestro, the other singer, as he's a boy soprano. XD Off the top of my head, I think he sings the "Calling, calling" and "Aeria Gloris" lines as well as a bunch of others, so listen in.

Melissa Williamson - Waiting for You

Another track off of the Silent Hill soundtrack. It sounds so out-of-place at first, being that it's kind of rock-ish, but it quickly grows into the theme of the movie and the game. Melissa Williamson's vocals are so, so gud.

Fish To Fry- The Ditty Bops
Right now, I'm truely digging some folk/acoustic/blue-grassy music, and the Ditty Bops are the perfect blend. I've been listening to them for a while now, but in my recently hectic life, it puts emphasis on "relaxation". I could seriously listen to them all day.~

The Words "Best Friend" Become Redefined ~ Chiodos - this will always be one of my favorite songs, I have the lyircs memorized and I find myself writing them more than taking notes in classes >.< They're catchy and I like the angels and the claps in the middle of the song... its just so wonderful!

Listening To Freddie Mercury ~ Emery - I just got "The Question" and I really like this song, especially when he starts naming all the people and what they're doing, its just an interesting song. I love Emery sooooo much.

Sound of Snow Falling - Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen OST
I'm totally in love with this song. It's simple, yet oh so elegant. Every instrument blends perfectly with one another to create such a serene image. Oh, try listening to this song in a quiet area while it's actually snowing. The feeling and overall atmosphere will give you shivers (provided you aren't shivering already from the cold).

Love Me or Hate Me-- Lady Sovereign

THIS SONG IS MY ANTHEM. I adore it. The beat, the pace, the lyrics; all, perfectly fit together. It won't leave my mind, which is also a good thing. An all around dancey-prancey raptastic tune, download it or something.

Let's see what Laki likes to play on repeat till it kills him at the moment...
Well, as I said on the new CD topic, I bought The Rentals first, so it should be no surprise they're there.

The Rentals - Friends of P., an interesting, very poppy song witha kick-ass opening and chorus. I first heard this song by watching a video of Matt Sharp(of the band) playing with all-time favs Blur.
Also from The Rentals, The Love I'm searching for, Please let that be you and Naive. The latter's got an amazing drum, kinda swing like feeling to the song, along with the pop-feel.

Blur - Beetlebum, Chemical World and This is a Low.
Beetlebum remains a fav, because it's just...so different. It's got a great opening, it's like a song I could sleep the day away to. It's wonderful. Chemical World is an amazing example of their early work, with a real psychidelic kind of guitar, also real nice and easy going song, with wonderful observationalist/sarcastic lyrics. This is a Low is just about hitting a real low, but going for the best anyways. Quite lovely.

And bear with me, two more.

Weezer - Falling for You and Tired of Sex. How come no one liked Pinkerton? It was the band's best record. Honest. Blue Album was great too, but everything after Pinkerton was kinda too...I dunno, slick to me. Slick in a boring fashion. Falling For you lyrically and tune wise is awesome, and Tired of Sex is just a real bass heavy, kick-ass opener with some great lyrics and vocals.

I'm done. :)

I'll talk about non-anime, given I've already expressed that in a different thread. But I'll post them here too if anyone wishes to see them.

"Do You Love Me Like You Say?" - Terrence Trent D'arby (Symphony or Damn, 1993): A great song, his gritty voice combined with all the sonic textures shows he was a very passionate man when it came to his music, it's a shame people mistook his hype literally (he was joking about his first album "The Hardline According to Terrance Trent D'arby" being better than The Beatle's "Sgt. Pepper" just to get noticed).

"Gentleman Take Polaroids" - Japan (Gentleman Take Polaroids, 1980): The band that taught Duran Duran everything they know, but their instrumentation was more exciting, and they have a flair for the dramatic (as evidenced by their 1981 smash "Tin Drum"). This song was when they got their sound together, along with helping define the coming decade with many other bands around that time. Essential 80's listening.

"Disappear" - INXS (X, 1990): After all the attention garnered from Kick, it seemed like our country shut this band out soon after, a shame considering they still had some songs to give before their singer Michael Hutchence ended his life some seven years later. Disappear has nice pop sensibilities and lyrical pondering, and I can enjoy pop music anytime it sounds this nice.

"How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?" - Pet Shop Boys (Behavior, 1990): A track not present on any of their greatest hits collections, it was full of their irresistibly catchy electronic sounds with acoustic representation as well, nothing beats a good song that puts celebrities right in their place (in some cases).

Being an 80's child has its perks, trust me.

I blame DH for getting me hooked on the Tom McRae song "Mermaid Blues", which I've been listening to non-stop since I've got it. It's a gorgeous song with a haunting melody, and even more haunting lyrics.

Well, it's a bit difficult to distinguish between Origa and Benedict Delmaestro, the other singer, as he's a boy soprano. XD Off the top of my head, I think he sings the "Calling, calling" and "Aeria Gloris" lines as well as a bunch of others, so listen in.
Holy crap! Are you serious? I never even paid attention! Wow. I really thought it was one singer.

And if we're talking about Origa, then my favorite anime song from her has to be "Mizu no Madoromi", the ending theme from Fantastic Children. That one whoops the butt of all Ghost in the Shell Origa songs.

"I Caught Fire" -The Used: I got it stuck in my head on Friday at school, and ever since then I can't get rid of it. It's kind of a depressing song for me, for reasons I won't bother talking about.

"But It's Better If You Do!" -P!@td: Catchy tune; fun to sing.

"LG Fuad" -Motion City Soundtrack: As weird as it seems, it's easy for me to relate to. It's got meaning up the wazoo, and yet it's upbeat and makes you laugh. Plenty of sarcasm!

"Rever's Edge" -Shinkichi Mitsumune- It's somber and sweet, and it makes me feel better when I'm mad at someone.

Holiday-Green day

It's my favoirte song form Green day. Just somthng about it I love, can't really explain it.

I must say that I do not like the "new" Green Day but that's just my opinion. But you should really check out "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" since that is just about their only everlasting good song. The reason I say "everlasting" is because the rest of them get overplayed on the radio entirely too much. *cough* when sept. ends *cough* along with the rest of their songs on their new poser album. But hey, this is just my opinion and I do not mean to offend risen_hell_fire or anyone else for that matter. Green Day just went way down hill when they started really putting out the pop publisity.

*ahem* Anyways, I have grown increasingly attached to "So Yesterday" By Hillary Duff. I just can relate to it soooo well right now.

Also! I looove "Haunted" By Evanescence on their album "Fallen"!!!! I've loved Amy Lee's voice for forever now but I guess I had never heard "Haunted". Weird considering that I've had and listened to that cd for like a year. Just never noticed that particular track I guess.

-I love that deadpan delivery and vintage-influenced electronica. This song's particularly catchy for me (though their hit singles are "Tear You Apart" and "These Things"). This band really grew on me. Check em out if you've never heard of them.

Knights of Cydonia by Muse
-I'm reborn in Muse's genius. I've been a huge fan of Muse for a while and this is the new single from their most recent CD. It borrows from the spaghetti western genre of music along with Muse's typical singing style and instrumentation for a winning combination. If you hear the song and like it, then you must check out the music video which is amazing (at least to people who are amused by its content...).

I know, I've had it on repeat since I got it too. At least that's a step up from saving an episode of BBB just to open to the ED theme. :P

And that reminds me Silan... BBB was still in my recycle bin so I was able to look up the title in the credits again. I believe it's "Jisun" but whether that's Korean or not I don't know. The other title I told you, "Shinkirou" is what's listed on ANN. And of course the translation for that is "Mirage".

My current favorite songs:
AFI - Summer Shudder, The Interview
LOVEHOLIC - Mirage/Jisun/Shinkirou/whatever SO GOOD.

Can't stop listening to Bad Cover Version by Pulp. The song is amazing on its own, but really makes it golden is the video. The video doesn't feature the band at all, rather a bunch of celebrity/musician impersonators singing the song like as if it was the Band-Aid event of the 80's. Very funny, and some of the impersonators are dead on(Bowie, McCartney, Liam Gallagher).

a double dose of TV on the Radio:
the songs Dirtywhirl and A Method are really haunting, yet beautiful songs. Dirtywhirl sounds blues-y and A Method is 95% a capella (i think) and they both showcase lyricist/vocalist Tunde Adebimpe's songwriting and vocal talents (lol rendundancy)

I don't remember what the last songs I wrote were, so if this is repetitive... well, odds are none of you remember either. So I'm in the clear!

Dir en grey - Filth. Someone once told me a long time ago that this was their favorite DEG song. I couldn't believe them, mainly because I'd never really listened to the song. But for some reason, I understand now. It's an awesome song that starts out deceptively chaotic and muddled only to resolve into a great chorus that's just fun to sing along to. And there's my favorite part: the short half-spoken, half-sung ending with great instrumentals. This is why I love DEG. Sure, they're not for everyone, but when a song you never thought much of can turn out to be such a gem the more you listen to it... that's great stuff.

Bloc Party - Banquet. What? A non-Japanese artist on one of my lists? WTF? Well, I'm pretty sure I've said this one before, but what the heck. This song is just a lot of fun, with its catchy boppy beat and melody which seems vaguely reminiscent of an older style of music that I just can't place right now. This is my favorite song of theirs.

Easily one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life, the atmosphere is ambient, yet properly emotional with some very depressing lyrics. Great night listening when you're all alone contemplating to yourself, making all the pain go away when a tough night comes along.

"Eminence Front"- The Who

Ah, The Who. Truly an amazing group. I recently bought the Ultimate Collection and I found this gem. It's very catchy and the lyrics make a lot of sense. The synth is awesome and it's cool that the bass is the lead guitar. This song is definitely up there with classics like Baba O' Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again.

Little Big Town - Good As Gone
I don't usually like country music, but I saw this band on Conan the other night and their stuff was pretty damn catchy. (Not to mention the lead singer was kinda hot >.>) So yeah, good country!

Paramore - All We Know
des is totally to blame for this one. I'm a total sucker for rockin' bands with female vocalists. ;o

AFI - Miss Murder
This one is all mouse. Durn that nekozuki.

Reverie Sound Revue - Rip the Universe
Catchy, easy beat. Soft, harmonious vocals. Fun, poignant lyrics. Yeah, I like. :>

I'm currently in a hip hop phase. I just got Edan's Beauty and the Beat and Mr. Lif's Live at the Middle East and Emergency Rations. All three are amazing albums. Beauty and the Beat flows as if it were one long expansive track and Emergency Rations is an excellent album. The best by far is Live at the Middle East. It's a recording of a live show performed in Boston and it also features Insight, Akrobatik, and Akbar. I'm also enjoying Nas' new CD Hip Hop is Dead and Fingathing's (not rap) And the Big Red Nebula Band.

Favorite Songs from CDs
Edan - Beauty and the Beat - "Rock and Roll"
Mr. Lif - Live at the Middle East - "Inhuman Capabilities"
Mr. Lif - Emergency Rations - "Phantom"
Nas - Hip Hop is Dead - "Hip Hop is Dead"
Fingathing - And the Big Red Nebula Band - "Music To Watch Aliens By"

Secret Lover/Kelly Osbourne: I didn't really like this song when I fist puchased the album. But, now that I listen to it again, I guess it's my style after all. :)

The Sweet Escape/Gwen Stefani feat. Akon: I tried not to listen to this song when I got the album because I knew that someday it might become heavily overplayed. But it's just so damn good. All the "Whooo-hoos" and all that mess? I love it. I hope the rest of the singles are amazing, and if that's the case, this album will go down in my Top 20, if not the presdigous Top 10. The End. and Dead by My Chemical Romance

I really didn't like their stuff off the last album and I haven't heard enough of their first CD to talk about it, but this new one I LOVE.

I really enjoy this opening song though because of the fun snapping (it reminds me of Bugsy Malone (sp?) the movie where kids played fifties gangsters) and its got great guitar and his voice is so much better compared to the last album lol, he still does the "yelling" but it sounds a lot better with this music. (which I've heard compared to Queen and if you listen close you can hear how the guitar is similar and stuff) The transition between the two is so seamless and wonderful that I don't notice its changed >.< and it all fits in together.

Good times, go buy the CD.

OKAY, I CONFESS!

I too am somewhat addicted to the song, and personally it's Gwen Stefani's best song yet IMHO. At first, I thought Akon's backup vocals sounded weird (honestly it's as if he had sinus problems, no offense :< ), but the lyrics and rhythm is f**kin' catchy. So catchy that the Akon's vocals and chorus just wouldn't get out of my head.

I don't know why, but I somehow get the nolstagic feeling whenever I listen to the song because it sounds similar to Madonna's classic 'True Blue', particularly the chorus portion.

Labyrinth - Enter Shikari

Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones

The Velourium Camper III: Al the Killer - Coheed and Cambria

Laser Life - The Blood Brothers

Labyrinth has synths + announcer voices + amazing vocals

Paint it Black is just a classic. No more explanantion needed.

Al the Killer just sounds like a serial killer. I've never heard a song that sounds like a serial killer before.

Laser Life is too chaotic and all over the place to dislike. The vocals match the instruments well.

I absoultely LOVE this song.

There's one part where it gets all quiet and bursts back with "Sing for Love!" and its so powerful and great....gives me goosebumps! :love2: The lyrics are a bit rhyme whoreish but they're good and flow nicely. Plus the lead for Moneen = wonderful so he makes it sound tres bien.

Piano Solo (Live Version) - Yoko Kanno

Seven and a half minutes of some of the best piano playing I've ever heard. There's a reason why Kanno is considered one of the best in her field, and this is one of those reasons. This solo is a 5-song medley of songs from Cowboy Bebop that was performed live at the "Souviners of Tokyo" concert with The Seatbelts. Her skill is amazing, going from soft and light to jazzy and in your face. This just gives me more reason to love Yoko Kanno and Cowboy Bebop.

Boy, I should've realized my last post in this thread wasn't so hot, but I'll improve with something in-depth! You will not be disappointed!

What I'm currently listening to: Mari Iijima's catalogue

The songs I'll highlight from my listening

December - I always thought Mari did a good job with her piano work, and this latest offering from her new album Uncompromising Innocence brings about a mature touch that suggests how far she's gone from her early J-pop years. In truth, probably one of her best, and does a great job building a song to its finish.

Glass Darling - From the 1988 album Miss Lemon, this track moves about a somber and lingering pace, and the backing band does a good job carrying her sweet-sounding voice all the way to the chorus. A good sample of J-pop of you ask me.

Angel Paints - Not only was it the ending theme for the first Macross film, it was also on her second album Blanche. Though it is a sample of J-pop at its most melodic, there is still room for inspiration thanks to Mari's vocal performances, especially when pulls the song into her voice after the song's nice start.

Us - An offering from her first independent release No Limit, Mari sings great English and brings about her pop sensibilities to more familiar territory for all the fans she's had in the United States. But this is latter-period Mari, which means she's matured vocally and instrumentation-wise. I can respect this direction in her career.

Hope this is good! :D

Yeah, you're fine :D It's just important to post a reason why you like a song instead of just saying it's good or whatever.

To stay in topic, er, well, my favourite song lately is probably Kokorobosoi na. I don't even know why I like it, it's just catchy and fun and very 80s sounding. At least it's different than all the sterotypical j-pop endings that most anime have these days.

Yeah, her voice really packs a punch in this one. Two thumbs up for the song, otherwise two thumbs down for the atrocious video. Don't know why, but the whole insect thing going on gives me the creeps.

Still, as powerful as it may be, it's no match for her single 'Hurt'. She literally brought the house down with that one.

'Hurt' is most likely my least favourite. I mean, it's beautiful, but oh-so-tiring. Honestly, this whole new Christina phase is utterly... calculated. You know, the typical pop-star move. I loved the "Stripped" era because it was artistic and provocative.

Turin Brakes - Pain Killer
Brings back good memories from 2003. Daft lyrics sit rather well next to a good, summery arrangement and a ton of catchy refrains.

Arcade Fire - Wake Up
I've been listening to their new album Neon Bible this week, but I can't stop going back to this classic from their debut Funeral. It's a BIG, epic, sweeping song that manages to sound immense without resorting to prog-style dulladry.

Arcade Fire - No Cars Go
Probably my favourite song from their previously-mentioned wonderful new album, mainly for this utterly killer moment about halfway through. You'll have to listen to find out what it is though!

nightmare - Morpho
Probably the most complex and satisfying song from the band responsible for the Death Note anime's first OP and ED so far. It's sort of a ballad, but sort of not at the same time. What it sort of is though is brilliant and I can't stop bloody listening to it. They've come a long way.

UVERworld - BUGRIGHT album
I've had it on repeat for days now and I can't pick a single song I like the best: it all melds into one glorious slice of incredibly smooth, catchy, hook-laden Japanese pop-rock. Particular mention must go to 'Shamrock' where the singer sounds like the Cookie Monster.

Janne Da Arc - feel the wind
So cheesy! So, so, so cheesy but utterly glorious at the same time. I have absolutely no idea why I like this song so much, but it's been a good friend over the past few years and never fails to cheer me up when I'm down.

Red Guitar by David Sylvian - Former Japan frontman had a solo album titled "Brilliant Trees" back in 1984, and it featured some rather jazzy tracks for what I expected from a member of a New-Wave pioneering group. Still, "Red Guitar" delivers a very laid back sound that used a nice drum accompanied with a great guitar and suitable piano compositions.

Love 2 The 9's by Prince - From his 1992 "Love Symbol Album" that would soon become his alias, this track is blissfully constructed with delicate pop melodies that incorporate R & B and Soul influences alike.

Sing For Me by Mari Iijima - A worthy pop track from her 2004 compilation "Gems" that proves she still has what it takes to make songs that are simultaneously catchy and enjoyable.

Forever Still by OTIS - I just recently heard it in the ending credits of the animated sci-fi movie "Ark". I love it for the tune and lyrics, which are sorrowful and yet hopeful. The main instrument is guitar, with violin and some drum for the beat. I am planning on purchasing the album Abundavida just for this song.

Center of the Sun by Conjure One - A long-time favorite techno song. It utilizes a variety of instruments and tech effects. I like the tune, but it is really the lyrics that draw me in every time. It tells the story of a girl's spirit that will not be broken, and a boy that is kind to her unlike the others. "When I look into your eyes/ I am at the center of the sun / and I cannot be hurt / by anything this wicked world has done."

In Flames - Jester Script Transfigured - It's what I call beautiful, the acoustic segments of the song as well as the awesome Gothenburg style twin leads makes this song absolutely mind blowing.
Dismember - Nenia - Awesome melodies, nuff' said.
Gojira - Heaviest Matter In The Universe - Hard hitting thrash metal, I can listen to this for a long time and not get bored.
Haggard - All´inizio è La Morte - This is a folk/symphonic metal track, ignoring the first couple of LOTR-ish moments the song is awesome.

I've been listening to the Delays a lot over the past few weeks, particularly the tracks 'Wanderlust', 'Nearer Than Heaven', 'Long Time Coming', 'You and Me' and 'Valentine'. They're great songs, with a real 1980's pop-rock vibe mixed with the lead singer's insanely androgynous voice. I literally had no idea it was a man until I did some research, and was rendered speechlees. He sounds so much like a girl it's untrue.

Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
Probably my favourite track from their underwhelming new album Send Away the Tigers. I really like the bridge section in particular (I love it when the Manics use synths) and the guest voice of The Cardigans singer complements it nicely.

Heart - Alone
Pure eighties cheese. I love pure eighties cheese, especially when it's a ridicoulously overwraught pseudo-ballad that ponders the truly important question, how do I get you alone? Alooooone.

abingdon boys school - HOWLING
Further proof that T.M.Revolution's voice is better suited to rock than it is to cheesy electro-pop. In my opinion, obviously. A really solid, catchy belter of a track.

And finally, I've been surprised at how good Tori Amos's new album American Doll Posse is. Her best since 2000's To Venus and Back, easily. My particular favourites are 'Big Wheel' ("I AM A M.I.L.F. DON'T YOU FORGET" Oh, I won't, because I totally would. Who wouldn't?) and 'Bouncing Off Clouds', mainly because of her bizarre accent she adopts. "Bouncing ORF Claaaaaay-aaaay-oooooouds", indeed.

Lena Park - Inori ~You Raise Me Up~

This is currently my favorite song not because of its individual brilliance, but how its power of both the song and Lena Park's voice suits Romeo X Juliet's image like a glove. At first, I can't help but notice how the song really reminds me of Josh Groban's 'You Raise Me Up' and I wasn't surprised to hear that it was originally composed by Rolf Lovland, I wasn't so surprised.

And the song was further made more magical with the help of the Eminence Symphony Orchestra. Hikoshi Sakimoto has struck gold on this one for having Korean sensation Lena Park to sing this masterpiece.

Ooooh, it sounded so ****ing amazing on the tour! Totally adds a different spin to the song, instead of gritty hip hop its more easy on the ears.

Umbrella - Rihanna ft. Jay-Z
I hate all of her other songs, just to make that clear. This is by far the greatest song she's yet to release. Her voice sounds totally solid, the melodies are kick-ass, and the chorus is so damn catchy! The music video is gold. I may actually look into this album. Hey You - Madonna
Okay, must admit, not my favourite thing Madge has ever released, but it's good to hear from her. It seriously sounds like a "Like a Prayer" b-side or something; I totally hate the drummer boy part. But, for the majority of the song, its catchy and very Lennon-esque, which is what I think she was going for. <3

Regardless, this is by the best and hottest (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/Mizuiro/1661016-2.jpg) ex-Sugababe, it's from her second solo album (very Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins inspired, which is just up my street) and it's great.

theSTART - Fix
The punky/new wave trio take a more electronic, poppy route with their awesome third album Ciao, Baby and this is probably my favourite track of the lot. Killingly catchy and given a ton of firey personality by fab frontwoman Aimee Echo. I approve of both the song and the new direction.

Susumu Hirasawa - nigeru mono
The main theme song of Satoshi Kon's new movie Paprika. I love Hirasawa, he's my favourite anime music composer and this piece of music demonstrates exactly why that's the case. Trippy, soaring and utterly unique.

Tori Amos, and a bunch of it!~

My Posse Can Do - One of Santa's songs; it's sooo f@cking catchy! Makes you feel all sexual and giddy and dancey and loverly. The little tippytippy ty part is so much fun. My posse can do you biznatches.

You Can Bring Your Dog - Another Santa song. My favourite on the entire album!~~~~ OMFG. You have to hear it to totally understand, but it's just as catchy as My Posse Can Do.

Oh, and Madonna's Hey You. The video is simply divine.

lets see..im a music fan but i try to limit it

Every Heart by BoE - Inuyasha ending
Karenai Hana by Shimokawa Mikuni - Full Metal Panic ending
Anata Ga Ita Mori by Jyukai - Fate/Stay-Night ending
Amrita by Kajiura Yuki - Tsubasa Chronicle (can't find the song in season 1&2)

this 4 is among those that REALLY blow me away...

reason: really fits into the anime.
example: check out `Anata Ga Ita Mori`s lyrics...and compare it with Saber's feelings after watching d anime. you will get what i mean

Well damn, who's responsible for letting this vital thread die?!

Right now I <3;
I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry
World Should Revolve Around Me - Little Jackie
Pocketful of Sunshine - Natasha Bedingfield
Take a Bow - Leona Lewis
Take a Bow - Rihanna
Better in Time - Leona Lewis
Give It 2 Me - Madonna

A lot of pop, really. I don't know why I'm in such a pop-y mood?

Oh, and a Britney Spears mood too. <3~

I was into American Idol this year, and I've been listening to David Cook's: Time of My Life for a while. Even though some of the lyrics do rather suck.

I've also been listening to Classic Rock and then some Queen music as well:
Bad Moon Rising
Lookin' Out my Back Door
Bohemian Rhapsody
Killer Queen
We Are the Champions

And that's pretty much it. It feels like forever since I've heard these songs, and I've recently started listening to them over and over again.

The Ting Tings - 'Shut Up and Let Me Go'
Attitude-packed, catchy as hell, Brit electro-pop.

Uh Huh Her - 'Not A Love Song'
Beautiful, atmospheric electro with rock hooks that manages to have an actual heart being under the digital sheen.

L'Arc~en~Ciel - 'Lies and Truth'
The video for this bizarrely foreshadows Harry Potter. That aside this is a gloriously overlong, incredibly camp, orchestra-packed pop romp.

Tanaka Masayuki - 'Kamen Rider Kuuga!'
NO FEAR! NO PAIN! CHOU HENSHIN, KAMEN RIDER KUUUGAAAA! If Jam Project sung this it'd probably be perfect.

Well, lately I've been listening to many different styles of music but my favorite songs are:

Break the ice (Britney Spears)
Piece of me (Britney Spears)
Radar (Britney Spears)
I can't stay away (The veronicas)
I kissed a girl (Katy Perry)
Paradise Kiss Opening song -> Lonely in Gorgeous (LOVED THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!)
Paradise Kiss Ending song -> Do you want to
No Air (Jordin Sparks)
Kazi no Maki He (Tsubasa Chronicles) -> Beautiful vocals and choir!!!!!!
Synchronicity (Tsubasa Chronicles) -> Another great song. I just wish they'd used a better singer... nonetheless it sounds awesome.
Viva la Vida (Coldplay)
To kill (30 Seconds to Mars) - Loved the band!!!!!
Beautiful Lie (30 Seconds to Mars)

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence
Holy crap, this is a good cover. Despite the fact it's goth metal it manages to capture the same wonderful streak of the dramatic that Depeche Mode's had. I have a horrible feeling it'll be on repeat for ages.

Rica Matsumoto - Alive A life
Now that Kamen Rider Ryuki is being properly subbed I've once again managed to get myself addicted to the OP song. It's not quite the same with Ryuki posing in a load of mirrors, though.

The Smiths - Death of a Disco Dancer

I just love Johnny Marr's guitar picking during the intro of the song, it's so..different. Almost eloquent, which is how I feel a lot of the Smiths melodies tend to be. And Morrisey can have a beautiful voice when he wants to.

I don't have a favorite per se, since I love music too much to choose just one type or song to be my favorite. However, I must say that Meadows of Heaven by Nightwish is incredible. Wherever or whatever Heaven is for you, that song will take you there.

I also love End of All Hope by Nightwish as well.

Been listening to a lot of Talk Talk's catalogue as of late, I really like how they're a band that started out as a bunch of bandwagon jumpers, and then they suddenly evolved with each album and became this sort of art-rock group by the end of their career.

A bio (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:gifoxqr5ldae) for those who are interested! :D

Here's some videos (except the last two) to give you guys an idea of what happened to them:

Here's them in the beginning:

Talk Talk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bdEhtDoh88&feature=related)
Today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoKiyavrWmw&feature=related)

And from their second album and onward, you can start to see changes:

It's My Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvAVJTQeFiQ)
Such A Shame (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IZyFHG9ZJI&feature=related)
Life's What You Make It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvMoRVrqx_I)
I Believe In You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cIWsQuYVeg&feature=related)
The Rainbow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCZnXg0vNs0&feature=related)
Ascension Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGHwWwQw3tc&feature=related)

My favorite song is The Rainbow, but I also really like the songs Happiness is Easy, Ascension Day, I Believe In You, Life's What You Make It, Dum Dum Girl, Such A Shame, I Don't Believe In You, Wealth, New Grass, Does Caroline Know?, Give It Up, and It's My Life.

The live cut of "Mad Tiger" by Peelander Z. After last nights concert, it's stuck in my head. Doesn't hurt that Peelander had everyone in the crowd come up on stage and bang on pots and pans to the beat of the song and play to an empty theater.

Placebo's cover of "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush. I prefer it to the original.

"Pump It Up!" by Elvis Costello. I'm sorry to say that I'd never heard this one until it was in Rock Band 2, but it's energy is so infectious that I'll still be listening to it for years to come.

"Soma" by Smashing Pumpkins. I LOVE how this song builds, it's a powerful slow burner.

"Break It Down Again" by Tears For Fears

Private Affair by The Virgins

I managed to get my piratey little hands on their album and I. Am. Loving. It. This song in particular has a really amazing sounding chorus. The singer's voice sounds so naked and honest, I can't help but really -feel- what he's feeling. I love when that happens.

Indeed. That and it's not really a comeback, is it? She only released an album last year (which wasn't exactly a flop, at least not commercially, and spawned some pretty sucessful singles). It's pretty much the shortest comeback in musical history if you want to class it as such.

Yes, but even though Blackout is my favourite Britney album, it felt pretty vacant compared to Womanizer. It's been years since any real spice in her career. And, even though it has tings of Blackout songs like Ooh Ooh Baby and such, she's singing in a much different/lower style than usual. Just because Blackout was a success doesn't mean it was actually a "comeback"; Britney is much more than about just the music. :3
