View Full Version : Sailor Moon Review
I totally understand where the critics are coming from, yet I must disagree that the anime was fairly advanced for its time when it was made and I sort of disagree with the harsh rating compared to many other ratings, such as Cromitarie High School, which had absolutaly no plot at all. I certainly understand why it didn't get the highest of ratings since it certainly has almost an overload of repetitive "Monter of The Day To Defeat" episodes and there were just as many fillers. I just thought that I should get a viewer's opinion out in the open. Thank you very much for your time! ^-^

Well, the rating is given regardless of the time it was made.
The viewer thinks to themselves, "I wonder if the animation is good...", not "I wonder if the animation was good for its time...".
If the animation is not good now, then it counts as a flaw. :(

Hmmm, being a fellow Sailor Moon fan I'll tell you exactly why Sailor Moon (the anime at least) is VERY VERY flawed.

No it wasn't. Tenchi Muyo was made the same year Classic Sailor Moon was and it's animation is leagues above Sailor Moon. The original Sailor Moon had horrible animation for the early 90's. (I'm talking the 1st season; for some reason they graded the show as a whole and not in 5 parts but whatever... bear with me)

Cromartie High Schoo is a comdey (a horrible one) that was made to have no plot. Sailor Moon is a Maho Shoujo anime, it is intended to have a plot and a good one if it deserves a high grade. Quite frankly Sailor Moon's plot was very cliched. (I don't know how to use accents on a keyboard.)

You probably should have put this after your first comment. I think you need to elaborate you're response to the review more so that it means something to the professors. I mean, I wouldn't give a damn if I was in charge.

Good job and you're welcome :)

I personally think the review sucks to, BTW.

There was actually discussion about this, back in the day. I think Kain (at the time) was open to reviewing the series individually. I think the final push towards "one series" had a lot to do with the different seasons being "arcs" of the same story, with strong links between seasons. This is opposed to anime that have been broken up, like Slayers, where Slayers Original, NEXT, and Try are very different shows. It's been a while since we talked about that though.
Edit: Of course, it could also have a lot to do with how the professor watched it: all in one viewing, or individually. Thinks like FMP2 and GitS: the second gig probably should be one series, but everyone watched them as the episodes came out, so that kinda killed that.

That makes sense but at this point...
I'm sure it would be a hassle to re-review those 5 series (I believe they were only arcs in the manga?) but it sure would make things easier for the readers. Whatever Kain wants to do I guess.
Bit as far as animation quality goes. It does improve by Sailor Moon S.

I would point out his very valid argument but...
Yay! He mentioned Slayers! ^^

I see! That's awfull and very confusing lol.

I see, yet I guess I was a little absent minded and forgot that they were actually made in the same time period. lol That is a very good point! Tenchi Muyo! is a very good example of advanced animation in the ninties! Thank you very much for pointing that out to me since I had obviously forgotten!

For as much as I love Sailor Moon, I do have to agree with a lot that it said in AA's reviews (especially Kain comment about the music :p). It's cheesy, drawn out, cliched, and reveals "secrets" slower than a 3 year old could figure them out. It's not a universally good anime by any stretch of the imagination, but that doesn't mean it can't be amusingly enjoyable, if you go into it with the right frame of mind.
At some point I'll get my project finished ._.;
WERID! right now i'm just watch Sailor Moon Movie on myspace. it is soooo funny. i'm remembering all the times i got up before 4:00 a.m. just to watch Sailor Moon. then i remember when my sister and i would pretend to be on the team and draagggg out all of our moves' name but still the lessons i learned are many...like when attacking just go ahead and do it, don't waste time on it and that my hero will always come in my time of need!

The low grade isn't a big deal I wouldn't think. In a perspective eye, it sucked.
What I always loved about Sailor Moon was the details in the backgrounds. They were always in similar areas that I would recognize. (Rei's Temple, Juuban Park, Juuban Shopping Center, Juuban Middle School (Secondary School?), etc. As a kid I loved that. it was so much less confusing for than say, DBZ.
