When the flash loads, reload it again and focus your attention to just above the controller. Notice anything? It's a very quick flash, but incase you missed it...

I never would have thought of an alliance between Sony and Apple, but I guess it's possible. It would be beneficial on Apple's part; Microsoft is their main competitor, and they're on their way to dominate yet another market. Apple would want to do anything in their power to stop it. Sony is the only one with the market share to be able to stop Microsoft (poor Nintendo), so with the cooperation of other anti-Microsoft companies, they may just be able to do it.

Remember, Microsoft may have bought a lot of friends, but they have genuinely made a lot of enemies.

Probably more like apple fanboy/girl who did the webdesign. :D

It's extremely fast, I barely see it. Hardly enough time to even pause it.

Actually, I doubt MS views Apple as a real competitor. They're more afraid of Linux. If MS really wanted Apple out of the game, they sure wouldn't be releasing Mac versions of MS Office or Age of Empires 3. If anything, the line between them is getting more blurred with Mactels and Boot Camp.

Secondly, Sony is a direct competitor with Apple in Apple's most lucrative field - digital music, both in online music services and players. Also, I don't think Sony thinks they need Apple's help to hold off Microsoft in the gaming arena.

Apple doesn't gain from helping Sony.
Sony doesn't gain from helping Apple.
MS and Apple don't hate each other as much as their users do.

Sony will probably "support" Apple the same way that MS does - by having their console be compatible with iPods for streaming music. I don't expect OS X to be running off the PS3 hard drive.

Possible explaination for the logo?

So if you hadn't already heard, when you hit the Sony PlayStation 3 home page you're greeted with the usual requisite promo animation... and a momentary flash of the Apple logo (highlighted above). Seriously. Go check it out if you don't believe us. So, what's the deal? Well, our first inclination would be that it's either a mistake, some misplaced watermark, or the designer who put this thing up was probably about to get fired so s/he decided to have a little fun. Trust us though, we definitely would put it past Sony to be all sly and leave us some clue about a possible Apple video game partnership -- that just ain't happening at this point. We'll let you know as we learn more, but we doubt there's any current cause for alarm; especially since our videogame lovin' sister site Joystiq gave Sony's PR peeps a call, and they were as surprised to discover this as we were.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Update: So from the sound of it Occam's razor strikes again. Looks like that logo flashes when you author using a trail version of Apple's Shake. So basically from what we can ascertain, Sony (or its ad agency) is too cheap to buy their people the full version of Shake, which goes for $500 list on Apple's site. Tisk, tisk!

Heh, I was thinking, "Wouldn't it be funny if it were just a watermark from some proprietary program used in production? Naah, no company would be that stupid..." and proceeded to come up with my own arcane theory.

Anyway, on to defending my territory... =)

Rival companies and proprietary marketing schemes are not the same thing. Microsoft may have just decided that providing the software for different architectures would provide them with more money than just being a prick and denying current Apple users with the ability to purchase their software. They may have just felt that providing their own version of MS Office (instead of non-Microsoft alternatives) does not help Apple all that much. Also, rival companies work together all the time. For example, a defense contractor will subcontract out different components of their projects because it's what they decided would work the best. They're not going to try to "starve out the competition" by providing a slightly worse, rival-free product.

Secondly, Sony is a direct competitor with Apple in Apple's most lucrative field - digital music, both in online music services and players. Also, I don't think Sony thinks they need Apple's help to hold off Microsoft in the gaming arena.
Apple already has the edge in the digital music arena. Sony's trying to get into the field, but they're not going to lose a hell of a lot of market share by helping Apple as well; they don't have too much to begin with. As far as I can guess, Sony would love to eliminate its chief competitor in the video game market, even if it means losing a tiny bit of ground in the digital music industry. Microsoft came out of left field with the X-box, and Sony's slowly been losing ground ever since.

Apologies, I saw it quoted on another forum and assumed it wasn't from a website, but here it is.
