Yo! I am going to Japan July9-august 8 with my friend! We'll be spending our time working with a couple churches in Sendai at their summer English Classes :)
We'll also be working at a youth camp there too :) It's really exciting! But kind of scary! It'll be my second plane ride ever! (i could barely handle two hours to Colorado for training!)

Cool, teaching English is so good.

I never realised how ****ing brilliant it is being an English native speaker until I wanted to travel and teach.

Hope you enjoy it.

P.s. I met a guy who worked in a school in Osaka two weeks ago, he worked for 1 year there, paid off all his student Unio debts then had enough to travel around China. If you like it go for it another time. Experience > All.

And, long distance flight... free alcohol. Wait... is that bad for your Church stuff >.>?

Wow, good luck to you. You guys get to travel so much at such a young age.. ;_;

Since I'm not a native English speakig person, they won't have me there teaching them English, but as a Finn I could teach them how to drink properly!
: DDDD

According to a newly released study, we're the nr1 binge drinkers in the EU! HOOORRAYY!! Wonder if there would be anyone willing to pay flights and all that for such valuable knowledge...

Outpost Nine is a website containing a well-known online editorial/blog that an American on the JET program keeps. He writes about his students and stuff... It's an entertaining look at Japanese social culture from an American point of view. He just redesigned the site, so I'm not quite sure how to link to it yet.

Anyway, I would love to be able to go to Japan for an extended period of time. I've never been there, and it seems pointless to go for only one week or so. But I spent last year in Israel, so I shouldn't be the one to complain about not getting the opportunity to leave the country.

Anyway, besides the fact that it's Japan, it's good to get out of ones comfort zone... 'tis the reason why I applied to teach English in Japan too (even though I am going to be a graduate engineer), which I failed (going to have a go at it again this year, I hope)... If you can survive it out there, it'll definitely boost your confidence and out give you a better outlook on life ;)

That's great, Spilled Milk! Everyone interested in Japanese culture should at least visit Japan once in their life time. There's no doubt that this will be a good and helpful experience for you, and helping communities by teaching English will make it even better. Well, have fun and a safe trip!
