I won one! (yay...)
This week's theme is... "RAIN". Take that as you will. For newcomers, here are the rules...
Remember, submission time is three weeks, so you have plenty of time to work on your submissions. I am looking forward to seeing entries from previous participants, but would love to see some entries from newcomers as well!
The Rules and Guidelines:
1) The completed entry must be a standard wallpaper size:
- Normal PC / Mac
* 640x480 | 800x600
* 1024x768 | 1152x864
* 1280x960 | 1280x1024
* 1400x1050 | 1600x1200
* 2048x1536
- Dual Display / Widescreen
* 1280x480 | 1280x800
* 1440x900 | 1600x600
* 1680x1050 | 1920x1200
* 2048x768 | 2304x864
* 2560x960 | 2560x1024
* 3200x1200 | 4096x1536
2) No pornographic or sexually explicit images.
3) One entry per person, no 3rd party entries allowed.
Suggestions:
- Take your time. A wallpaper is a much larger endevour than a sig graphic. Remember that you have a whole month to work on it.
- Make sure your stock image is clean and large resolution. If you have problems cleaning up your stock image, ask for help. Some good sites to look for anime stock are www.minitokyo.net , http://animepa.csusm.edu/galleries/ , or http://www.animevisions.net/ . Check http://sxc.hu for stock photos not related to anime. Also check out the Art Portal thread for other resources and links.
- Brushes can be a wallpaper artist's best friend. Check out Deviantart for a huge selection of brushes, or check out the Resources Thread.
- If you are working on a vectored image, don't get overwhelmed. Choose a colour palate before you start, and don't worry about vectoring every detail.
- Hand drawn entries are welcome, but keep in mind the quality of the image that you are using for the wallpaper should still be high. Coloured images are not required, but generally work better for wallpaper purposes.
-If you need any help or suggestions about your wallpaper project, feel free to contact either Ritalin or Liegenschonheit.
Some tips!
The overall image quality of a wallpapers makes a huge difference. If you're using characters and the only images of them are in sub-optimal quality, don't be afraid to work with it. The most common is to grunge it up, but I find applying textures to it (like my wall for last months contest) is the best way to go about it. Bonus points because it will make the entire wallpaper unified if done correctly, and feel less like a stock character slapped onto a background.
For the more daring newbies, make the image larger, then brush/paint it to up the quality, then shrink it down to increase the quality again. This is only one way, and is one of the most newbie friendly in terms of easy to use. Other ways include filters or the pen tool.Submission End Date: May 22nd.
