Lunar is one of the best game of it's time. Even though of it's low graphics and text lunar has a good story and unique songs that makes it attractive and entertaining.

Have you seen the small anime video clips of that game? Both LUNAR 1 and LUNAR 2 , especially those both. The majority of the Lunar Fans and Non-fans say it's good to have an anime movie or something to it...

Lunar gamers out there what do you think? Do we all, especially LUNAR fans, think it would be great?

This is definitely in the wrong forum, but I'm not sure if this should be in arcade or general anime.

Lunar? Good RPG series from Working Designs, deceased. Rather a personal favorite was Eternal Blue COmplete for the PSOne. Found it a bunch of times since it's rare. But I DID not like was fighting Zophar. Just overpowers you even if you are on a high level. I even sang the theme song once and won 10 bucks. Crooning sometimes works. Anyway, as for recent Lunar Games that would be the DS Lunar Legends. Too bad Ubisoft broke the RPG system. Never trust Splinter Cell makers with RPGs. THe thing about Lunar is that it never got the attention it deserved since like 50 people only knew about it or somethin and it's rather a unique experience if your an RPG enthusiast like I am

To answer your question, I have in fact heard of and played a game called Lunar on the Sega CD. It was good. So good that it was re-released on the PS1.

Yeah, Lunar started originally on Sega CD. I'm sad that I'll never be able to play it like that, since the Lunar series (especially the second) are some of my favourite video games.

Personally, I loved the battle against Zophar. Lunar was the first true RPG I'd ever played, and the difficulty of the battle called to me like a siren. Ever since then, Boss battles have seemed far too easy. There/s only one boss that I've fought so far that has come quite close to Zophar level, and probably only because I was at too low of a level to fight him.

Oh Lunar, I miss you so ;_____; Must get new copy.....

Though, I must admit, I don't know how an anime of the game would turn out. The storyline is very set up for a, well, an RPG. Like it should be. And while the animation was done well, a whole movie may be a bit of overkill.

I played Lunar: the Silver Star Story on PS1 and loved it. This was one of the toughest Japanese style RPGs I ever played, mainly because the creatures in the game leveled with you. The only real advantage of leveling was new techniques.

I remember the series thanks to Gamefan, I thought the company that made it was pretty cool, and the games came with so much stuff. Are the makers still around or did they go out of business? EDIT: never mine Tamanegi answered that question.

Of course I've heard about it Lunar was a great RPG series for the PS. I greatly enjoyed both of the games. They provided solid story and fun gameplay!

Lunar? Hell, yes. My sister swears by it. Can't have a friggin' conversation with her without it somehow lapsing into her threatening to kick my ass unless I play it.

I have heard of the game and I own it as well, at least the second one that is, LunarTwo Eternal blue, the first one was somthing like silver star or somthing, but the game is one of a kind and I found it to be very interesting and it really gets you wanting to play more.

There are 2 Lunar games for the PS1: Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete. These games have gone through several systems and as many remakes: the Silver Star, Silver Star Story, Silver Star Story Complete, and Legends. Eternal Blue, however, I believe only had one remake.

In any case, these games have bland combat system, cheesy dialogue, annoying encounter system, uneven pacing, and tedious navigation. It's a classic case of an average game being blown way out of proportion by its cult fanbase.

I bought Silver Star Story: Complete for the PS1, probably one of the best RPGS I have ever played. That and Suikoden III.

I don't see what makes your opinion any more important than those that love the game. You presented what you say as utter and absolute truth rather than a opinion.

You mean Game Arts. Working Designs was the publishing company that brought it over to the United States, which, as you said, are now [sadly] defunct.

I've played both of them on PlayStation and golly gee, I loved them. Silver Star Story was the weaker of the two; a good RPG, but not great. Eternal Blue still stands as one of my favorite RPGs that I've played. Unfortunately, I don't own either of the two, and I'm not too keen on Ebay. I may try it sometime in the future, though. Eternal Blue is the one I'd really like.

It's really unfortunate that Working Designs is gone; even with their bulky and expensive packaging, the Lunar games wouldn't be the same without their localizations.

As for it being an anime, sure, why not.

Interesting factoid that I learned the other day: there actually WAS a Lunar anime. Aparently it was based off of the Magic School game, and is incredibly hard to find.

The generic answer is, of course, that reviews of artistic endeavors are, by nature, a person's opinion and therefore do not need the ridiculous waste of space and time needed to mark everything with the first person singular. Interestingly enough, in this particular scenario, there is actually a direct answer to your question. My opinions are more important than most of what has been stated thus far because several of the conclusions--regarding the combat system, for instance--are frequently admitted to be a flaw by the games' fans.

Even though I understand that a Lunar Movie and/or TV Series would be overkill for those who don't enjoy the game ... I feel as though it is kind of on the same level as Star Ocean Ex, I love that game and that enhanced the experience of the anime series ... But personally would love to see a Lunar anime based of the games.

If I recall correctly, it technically had 2. One for the Saturn and one for the PSX.

And for the love of God, stop calling the PSX the PS1. It's like calling Super Mario Bros. "Super Mario Bros. 1"

I should mention that the cheesy dialogue in the Lunar games was only there because of Working Designs' "liberal translations". Yeah, those guys brought translator fiat TO THE MAX!

I'm in the middle of playing Lunar (Silver Star Story) for PSX. Unfortunately, I was borrowing it from a friend in college, and now that it's the summer, I have to wait 'till I can continue. It's almost impossible to find the game in stores now, even used.

Do you know if they changed the cultural references as well? It seemed to me that they made a lot of American references, which I found odd for a Japanese game.

It's almost impossible to find the game in stores now, even used. I'm not sure how true this is anymore, but when I wanted to find it a couple of years ago, I was able to get it online with little effort. Of course, with the second game released on the PSX and now also out of date, it may be harder. Then again, if you have a source with the game, it may be best to just wait, and save yourself a lot of frustration.

Of course their going to change cultural references. They wanted Lunar to be a game that anyone can enjoy, and only anime fans and Japanophiles would be the ones to get Japanese culture references. A lot of the jokes that were made in the game in the original Japanese aren't even translatable properly to English, as they rely on audio cued puns. As much as the dialogue did end up becoming cheesy (moreso in the first game than the second, but the second was bad, too), I was still very pleased with both of them.

Then again, I'm kind of a fangirl ._.;

Yup. That's the whole point in localization, in fact.

They say that Working Designs went under because it was taking them forever to release each new title. I'd be curious to know how much the extreme amount of localization played a factor in that.

In other words, if the company had only stuck to the Japanese market and not worried about porting titles over to America, would they be around today?

I seem to have missed Phate's post before. That kinda answers my question... The game design company didn't go under, just the localization company. Sorry about my stupidity. :)
