There are some very rabid "anti-emo" people on this forum who turned the last MCR thread into a flame fest, which is what Mana was refering to, I believe. Don't let them scare you too much. You just listen to whatever you like.

I'm not really into my chemical romance but a lot of people seem to be, if you think there cool, dont let anyone make you think different.

I really can't stand their music. I'm not exactly one for the emo scene.

However, their music video for "I'm not okay" amused me. Campy teen movies ftw.

Put me in the "so-so" group. They're not my favorite, though that may be because I am rarely a fan of more than three songs by the same group.

For some reason. :P

Eh, my distaste for all things MCR have nothing to do with them being labeled "emo", so much as I think they just make irritating music. It's astounding that attending their 30 minute live set a year ago still ranks as the WORST live gig I've ever seen. Nauseating stage banter, poorly tuned instruments, zero charisma, skeezy attempts at being witty gone bad, and a clambering monotony in sound that made it hard to tell when one song ended and the other began.

But hey, if that's your thing, I won't stop you.

Hmm, maybe people who DONT like emo or have anything decent to say about the subject should maybe ignore this thread?

anyway, yeah, MCR used to be ok, well, when they were "in style", but I guess thats true for any band. Frankly I think they are and have been fading from the public eye.

Its just the people who are saying "I hate MCR" or "I hate emo" don't know the meaning of 'ignore' so they feel they have to convert you cuz you like something they hate. Ignore them, its all opinionated.

BTW Death Cab is damn good I agree.

FYI Death cab is actually labeled as Indie
I find lots of people say "oh that's emo i dont like it" when they haven't really listened to it, and then when they do they generally like it. I do like MCR, although I've heard their live show sucks hardcore. I dunno there's just something about it that i seem to enjoy, especially if I'm in the right mood.

No man death cab id hugely emo. One of the biggest. But seriously, give emo a break. I hate Jugalo's but I don talk shit about em.... maybe because they would kill me but that is beside the point.

Anyway's back on topic I hate MCR. They are what is considered scene now and they are giving a bunch of bands that are similar to them a bad name. Like I am Ghost the band. Lotsa people dot even give them a try because the media says that they are like My Chemical. They are gay.

MCR was kinda cute back when they started, but now...well. No.

But I think for their supposed 'genre', they're decent...or close enough.

Sorry.
Clarity was minimal in that post.

By 'cute' I was referring to their initial fanbase and general musical style. They were the typical of their initial genre [whatever genre it was] and it was ok...but then they got foaming 13 yr olds and decided to pursue make-up.

And when I said 'over thirty', I mean those are the only bands I like.
Most bands where the memebers are under 30 usually have mediocre lyrics, suck live and make me want to die.

That is all.

I just don't get the appeal of EMO. I guess I'm getting old. :(

I, and most music critics, don't categorize Death Cab as EMO, by the way. They are an indie band that hit it big when they went over to Atlantic Records and got spotlighted on the OC. I still consider them to be indie-rock more than EMO.

On the whole, I'd agree Death Cab aren't emo. The Photo Album and prior are just good albums. But Ben Gibbard, Ben Gibbard is emo. Plans may have pushed them over the emo edge though, but maybe I'm just saying that because it's so bad.

Ok, that's what pisses me off. Not just people-jumping-on-a-bandwagon-thing, but giving up because of it. Hell, just because 'Hollaback Girl' was a summer hit and all of the local sluts were giggling to it and muttering "shit" doesn't mean I'll give Gwen up. Popular music is good, but is killed to the bone. That's possibly its only difference with less-well known artists.

Hasn't MCR broken up?

Emo scream? Emo yes. Scream no. Atreyu screams. MCR is like emo new pop/rock. I liked them untill their songs got overplayed and everyone is school was like "I LOOOVE MCR! Like Totally!". God!!! You love the song "I'm Not Okay", NOT the band. Because I went up to a girl screaming that and asked "Okay, name 2 songs by them" and she said "Okay!!! 'I'm Not Okay', and......ummmm 'I'm Not Okay'!". what do you guys think of the new song that they played at the mtv awards ?¿ i think that its named Black Parade (or thats the name of the cd, i dont know), i really dont like it as much as ghost of you or any of the old songs... we have to wait and listen to the new album...

I heard The Black Parade recently, and I gotta admit. I like it. Quite much. I didn't like them at all at first, but I later grew to like Helena but still couldn't find much appeal in the rest of the album.

Usually I disdain this whole "I wish I was Dave Vanian or Glenn Danzig" look and sound many bands seem to like following these days. But with Black Parade, I'll give it some credit.

Edit: Kudos to those who know who Danzig is. Kudas +10 bonus points for those who known Vanian is.

It goes a little something like this...

I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Good album. "Early Sunsets Over Monroeville" and "Drowning Lessons" are f*cking great songs.

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Good album. Less of the charm of the first and I guess some more mainstream appeal, but yeah, I liked it just as much as the first. Good stuff, especially "Hang 'em High", I Never Told You What I Do for a Living" and "The Ghost of You"

The "alter ego", new band name, new album and by the sound of things, a muchly different sound to before. Not sure if this is a good thing or not.

DAMN, do they ever seem self important these days. The Black Parade and all that. Gerard Way is in serious danger of disappearing up his own arse.

Pachinko
09-12-2006, 04:01 PM
The Black Parade is pretty dayum catchy.

...But, then so are many other pop/rock anthems that, in the end, get far more credit and airplay that deserved. So, I guess I'll sit this one out until the second single is released; by that time, I'll either love it or hate it.

Ieyasu
09-13-2006, 10:08 AM
Usually, the first single from an album is the most "poppy", the one most likely to appeal to a mass audience. I usually don't like the singles as much as the main body of the album.

So maybe I'll like The Black Parade when it does come out?

Poppy ?¿ interesting...

Enh, well, i dont think "I'm Not Okay" was that apealing, their really big single is helena, at least in latin america, that song was on every place...
And i just think they are triying to hard in black parade, to dramatic. Still i love the band, the album is probably gonna be great.
