Just curious, what are some of the games you have played that have had a good soundtrack?
I personally like the FF7 soundtrack, the Legend of Legaia soundtrack, both Killer Instinct soudtracks, and many others I can't seem to remember off the top of my head.

Holy repeat thread, Batman! The Search function is your buddy for questions like this.
But to answer your questioné, I like Final Fantasy IX's and Metal Gear Solid 3's music most. :3

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Is that the one for the DS? If so then yeah Ill have to agree. My friend was playing it and had the volume turned up pretty loud and it had some good music.

They were both awesome because they were both composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, who is arguably the most prolific and talented Japanese video game composer next to Nobuo Uematsu. Personally, I like Chrono Trigger as a game a lot better, but I prefer Cross for the music, as it had a nice Celtic-y feel to it and I'm a sucker for that kind of music.
American composers aren't too bad either. I like the work Kelly Bailey did on Half-Life 2's soundtrack. And the Command & Conquer: Red Alert soundtrack is still one of my absolute favorites, it being composed by Frank Klepacki.
GGXX. 80's hair-power-metal ftw.
EDIT: Ninja Gaiden 2 and Castlevania 3 both had fantastic soundtracks.

VTM: Bloodlines. Ministry, Genitorturers, Daniel Ash...it has some pretty decent ambient music too.
GTA: Vice City. It's all about the New Wave, baby.
The Castlevania series has had some pretty nice atmospheric soundtracks too.

Seconded. The best music I've ever heard from any game, as of yet.

So many games have awesome soundtracks.
MGS, FF, Snake rattle 'n roll (this one is just too funny not to include), sonic, and so many more. But none of them beat super mario bros. I love playing that games' tunes on my guitar lol.
Btw have any of you guys heard of the video game pianist? He's a guy that plays game music on the paino very well. http://www.videogamepianist.com/

I figured I'd do the world a favor and not make yet another "favorite video game music" thread and just riff off this older one. I mean, it's barely a year old, so I can't be too off in posting up my reply for this. And if it's any consolation, this list will be fairly elaborate to not waste anyone's time in reading it.
Disclaimer: adjust volume as needed, there's some game sounds in there too.
And you get videos of games you may find potential interest in! Hmm, interesting!
1. Streets of Rage 2 (GEN) - Infectious, catchy, and downright urban. I could punch people to this music forever, maybe just to hear that punch noise too. So gratifying! Just think if you rapped to this! Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiSj4qeKQaU) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT8Xn9GXJj4) 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnG3moe00O0&mode=related&search=)
2. Saga Frontier 2 (PS) - Every god damn time I hear the music, I clench my fists in awe. Seriously overlooked by many Squaresoft fans, this game had some real quality to it. Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u48F7J978D8&mode=related&search=) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOlBhPHmvSk) 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__pBHjGkyIs)
3. Radiant Silvergun (SAT) - Shooter music never needed to be this epic. In truth, it's rather easy to see the reputation this game has both gameplay-wise, and musically. Probably Treasure's best right here. Excellence! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuTJAHRZNSM)
4. Raystorm (PS) - Still my shooter of choice for the playstation's selection. The tunes were also just right for the mood (very adrenaline-inducing), and the sounds used were unique. Try Some! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avfb7tjukDk)
5. Einhander (PS) - Next to Raystorm, Einhander's tunes were quite epic, and the gameplay equally as thrilling. But then, whey am I questioning Squaresoft's soundtrack abilities? Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jafbKIBUws&mode=related&search=) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXLekH-bSug&mode=related&search=)
6. Gunstar Heroes (GEN) - In truth, some of the catchiest action music known to man, and all done in the quirky manner that Treasure knows best. Epic and electric in the same spot. Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owzhGB9H-pM) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9BBWim6hj4&mode=related&search=)
7. Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS) - Namco's track record (pun intended) with game soundtracks has been phenomenal, and I find myself the most excited for their Ridge Racer tunes. Makes racing that much sweeter. An intro and some gameplay samples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke7GfupeBPI)
8. Guardian Heroes (SAT) - If Treasure was best known for Gunstar Heroes, then let Guardian Heroes be the game that shows they weren't bluffing. The music is fantastic, and the gameplay is more frenzied. Good times. Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsLYHpetUUA) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl5B8o9Ea9Y) 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUzhig91BI8&mode=related&search=)
9. Mega Man 3 (NES) - Embarassing? Hardly. 8-bit music was never supposed to be injected with this much soul, and nothing screams "Good Times" like some retro nintendo music with a great sense of rhythm. Samples: 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO_rtKqnerg) 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjh_fDiW9nM) 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s82GCgkPalE)
10. Pocky and Rocky (SNES) - I rented this game from a store not too far from where I lived, and I was addicted to its gameplay and music respectively. Rather surprising how nice it is to revisit such nice tunes after all this time. Check it out! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02qEz-qn8SE)
This list was incredibly hard, as any choice would've worked for the last 5, but I stand with these as my representations. I went off of how well the soundtrack enhanced the game, combined with how impressionable it was. There's probably better soundtracks than some of what I listed above, but in reality these selections made my experiences better with video gaming on the whole. Honorable Mentions would be too many to list (Panzer Dragoon, Street Fighter 3, Sin and Punishment, etc.), so I will leave you with this.

It's all about the Koji Kondo. =3
The only games that have music that I actually listen to outside of playing the game are Lunar 2: Eternal Blue and Chrono Trigger.

Both great soundtracks, I heartily enjoy listening to the Lunar 2 Soundtrack CD that came with the entire package (thanks for the memories Working Designs, R.I.P. dear friend).

That would be the PS2 remake, I have the Sega Genesis Collection with the original three 16-bit versions, and I guarantee you the music is hardly worthy in comparison. xD
