THE MAIN STAGE:
OZZY OSBOURNE
SYSTEM OF A DOWN
DISTURBED
HATEBREED
LACUNA COIL

MAJOR MAIN STAGE BAND TO BE ANNOUNCED ON MAY 23RD

SECOND STAGE:
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
ATREYU

BLEEDING THROUGH
NORMA JEAN
A LIFE ONCE LOST
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
THE RED CHORD,
FULL BLOWN CHAOS
WALLS OF JERICHO
ALL THAT REMAINS
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME

....wow this is a pretty pathetic lineup imo. The only bands i would see on the 2nd stage is strapping young lad and Black label society (other then that 2nd stage is pretty shitty). The main stage is alright (Ozzy,SOAD, Lacuna Coil, Hatebreed) but it dissapoiting compared to the last few years. What are you guys thoughts of this years lineup?

The Main Stage:

Ozzy Osbourne: He's the host, he sold-out, it's unavoidable. He has a hard time remembering how to take a dump or his wife's name, but for some reason he seems to transform on stage, becomes alive if you will, and that is perhaps the only redeeming factor left in him.
System of a Down: No comment.*
Disturbed: If it had been this Disturbed (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=42066), I would be dancing in the rain, but it's not, so No comment.*
Hatebreed: No comment.*
Lacuna Coil: If they wouldn't promote their new album, I could be mildly interested in their presentation (who knows perhaps they might even play a song from before Comalies), but since they will promote it to no end, nah, I'm not interested in them at all.

Second Stage:

Black Label Society: Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of southern metal, but they are by far the best of this year's Ozzfest...
Atreyu: Never heard of them. And if I'm not mistaken, their band name comes from one of the characters of the Neverending Story. Funny. (Disclamer: I love the NES franchise, but for a metal band, it does sound funny).
Unearth: ...The Trevor Phipps band right? I liked their first album 'The Stings of Conscience', but they will probably be performing their lastest album 'The Oncoming Storm', so I'm not looking forward to them anymore.
Bleeding Through: Um, haven't heard enough of them to make a premature opinion, I'll get to this one later.
Norma Jean: You don't mean Norma Jeanne (http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=30604) now do you? Japanese metal band made by two members only; not the best when it comes to Japanese metal, but at least it could be interesting from the variety point of view.
A Life Once Lost: Never heard any of them, but I know from gossipy metal fans that this is one of those rare bands that started with the wrong mainstream foot bad and actually improved with time instead of following the money bandwagon. I have to check this one better.
Strapping Young Lad: One of the few bands I was looking forwards to.
The Red Chord: I heard 'Fused Together in Revolving Doors' and thought this band had some worthy elements, but 'Clients' proved me wrong. Skipping.
Full Blown Chaos: Never heard of them.
Walls of Jericho: Never heard of them.
All That Remains: I remember listening to their first album, but none of their songs got stuck in my head for longer than five minutes...that's bad in my list.
Between the Buried and Me: Um, I've heard good things about them but haven't proved it myself.

Things I noticed about this year's Ozzfest:

1) 2/3 of the show are bands cataloged as 'Metalcore', everyone who's been an metalhead for a while knows that that tag means "We want to be mainstream, badly", but it's not always the case; hope this guys fall in the scarce second group and not on the first.
2) Is it me or metal bands are getting more and more emo-ish over time? What's with the angsty wrist-slitting band names?! Where's Satan, evil and nature/fantasy band names gone to?! (This should have sarcasm tags, but I really ask myself this question so...)
3) Each year Ozzfest is sinking even deeper in it's pool of middle-to-high class white kids who want to be revellious for a time and enter the 'temporary metalhead' (similar to the temp goth, temp anything really) fad...I don't think it's bad to make money, but still this just pisses me off so much...(I stop here, my rant has gone long enough).

On other news, I will not go to this year's Ozzfest for two reasons (like people care):

-The cool reason: This year's Ozzfest sucks!!11ONE!1 (However not much more than previous years Ozzfests).
-The real reason: Not interested in wasting a 1000+ dollar ticket to see those bands in the first place.

*Replace with "wtf...NO WAI!!" elitist metalhead rants.

Actually i probably will not attend this year ozzfest because

A) Ive seen most of those bands before (most the bands on the 2nd stage ive seen played live and they suck)

B) Sharon Osbourne dosnt know anything about metal music.

C) Unholy allience tour with Slayer and lamb of god, Mastodon, and Children of Bodom

D) Sounds of the underground tour with Gwar, Trivium, In flames, Cannibal Corpse, As i lay dying, Terror, etc

Eh, after what they pulled on Iron Maiden last year I wouldn't go even if they paid me to. XD

Ugh...I just heard Hatebreed, A Life Once Lost, Full Blown Chaos, Unearth and Between the Buried and Me. They were just all out screaming. I couldnt understand a tenth of the words they were saying, and the background music sounded pretty much the exact same between all of them. Bleeding Through and Atreyu were slightly more bearable, but not much different. And Strapping Young Lad wasn't too bad. I think the best they have are Ozzy, System of a Down, Distubed, The Black Label Society, and maybe Lacuna Coil to an extent.

I think the line-up is lackluster compared to past events. I'll be looking forward to mainly just the main stage performers (with some exceptions). I might just miss it this year. . .

I agree with you. The main stage is at least decent, but the 2nd stage is way to generic. I already got my tickets for The unholy allience tour with Slayer, and im planning to get tickets for SOunds of the underground.

Ew. Just Ew. I had high hopes after last years lineup, but I guess that they won't come to pass. Strapping Young Lad is about the only band worth seeing, and they are only on the second stage. No Soilwork. No In Flames. Hell, they don't even have the passably mediocre bands of years passed. This tour has really gone to the dogs. A bunch of undeservedly popular, angst-ridden shit, and one good band. This makes me sad. I think I'll just go wander over to some of those other tours that were listed.

C) Unholy allience tour with Slayer and lamb of god, Mastodon, and Children of Bodom
Oh god yes. Ozzfest is a total let down this year, but the Unholy Alliance tour is going to make up for it. Lamb of God is one of the best live metal performances in the industry today, and when you combine that with Slayer and Children of Bodom, you've got yourself a dream lineup.

And KidKolt. A little thing I've noticed over the years is that the second stage at Ozzfest usually seems to have the best bands The main stage is mostly mainstream bands, a good portion of which have sold out. But this year it seems they just scrapped together anyone they could for the main stage. It seems pretty pathetic to me.

Ozzfest rarely looks good to me actually. Last year was decent with Arch Enemy, In Flames, Maiden, etc. but after that publicity stunt Sharon pulled, I lost a lot of respect.

I'm just glad we have our Graspop Metal Meeting (http://www.graspop.be/pages/extra/bands.php) festival in Belgium. *Drools over this year's lineup*

Btw, Is Mustaine doing his Gigantour festival again this year? I saw a lot of potential in that for the states' metal scene.

I dislike all the bands playing on the main stage (especially Lacuna Coil) I'd really only go see Disturbed but... they have that "new" singer guy and I don't really like him... as for second stage though, I'd totally see Unearth, bleeding through, Atreyu and Strapping Young Lad.

Not that I listen to them that much outside of the occasional late night raido show (except Unearth, I like them)

I doubt I'll go, but meh if I do, that's who I'd see :XD:

*UPDATE*

Ozzfest now have added 3 bands to the list. Avenge Sevenfold (which i would like to see live), and Dragonforce are on the main stage. Plus they got bad acid trip for the 2nd stage rotating band. So here is the complete lineup right now:

THE MAIN STAGE:

OZZY OSBOURNE (select Dates)
SYSTEM OF A DOWN
DISTURBED
AVENGE SEVENFOLD
HATEBREED
LACUNA COIL
DRAGONFORCE

SECOND STAGE:

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
ATREYU
UNEARTH
BLEEDING THROUGH
NORMA JEAN
A LIFE ONCE LOST
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
THE RED CHORD,
FULL BLOWN CHAOS
WALLS OF JERICHO
ALL THAT REMAINS
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME
BAD ACID TRIP

Although i said before i wasn't planning to go see ozzfest this year. My freind got a few tickets for free, so i decided to go (heck its free, its better then paying 80 bucks a ticket), the only bands im planning to see are mostly the main stage bands (of course ozzy is not playing Phoenix), and for the 2nd stage, im there for BLS, SYL, Full blown Chaos, Walls of Jerricho, BTBAM, and Bad acid trip.

Well, at least Dragonforce and Avenged Sevenfold will make it more bearable. Add in Ozzy, BLS, System of a Down, and Disturbed and it's not too horrible. Still, it's nothing I would pay for, due to the majority of crap bands. It's lucky that you got your ticket for free.

Bah, Avenged Sevenfold has never interested me in the least.
I'd never pay just to see a bunch of crap-ass groups (with a few exceptions; Ozzy, Lacuna Coil, and... well, that's just about it) for sucha long period of time. It seems the age of "genuine line-up" is no longer.

I love how as of 2-3 years ago half of the second stage bands were pulling emo kids to their shows, not metal kids. I don't think the price could be low enough for me to go to Ozzfest, it's pretty awful honestly. On a good note, DragonForce are pretty hilarious, and their new cd isn't half bad.

On a better note, just go to the Slayer/Bodom show. I saw Bodom last year with Iced Earth and it was one of the raddest shows I've ever seen, and I'm just an indie kid, so that's saying something.

Ozzfest wasn't all that great. Ozzy decided a few days before hand to play at four in the afternoon on the second stage, so I missed him. Disturbed sucked, and I busted my eardrums listening to SOAD. I went to the one at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The only part I enjoyed wasn't the bands, but this old conservative woman who came with her son. She started rocking out in the seats behind ours. Best sight I've ever seen.

Well i just got back from ozzfest yesterday. I have to say it was a real blast. Although not as good as last year, but still it was alot of fun. I got pics of Strapping young lad, Bad Acid Trip, Walls of Jerricho, Black label society and one picture of system of a Down. I also got to meet Strapping young lad and Dragonforce (Very nice guys btw!)

The main stage was great except for Avenged Sevenfold (sorry guys, but they're not that great live,). Dragonforce was great even though they only played for like 30 minutes. Lacuna Coil was good, Hatebreed gave on a brutal show and so did Disturbed and as always, SOAD did great as well. Overall i had a real great time yesterday.

Heres a few pics from the show:
