What animes do you think should have a video game of their own.

Sakito
01-13-2006, 09:00 PM
Well I know some of my favorite anime's already have games to go with them so I am gonna say, Princess Mononoke. The reason being for this is because the story line would be good and so would the battle tactics only problem in be that it may seem like it is a really short RPG if you was to do it, sort of like Fable short but good.

YES!

I would so buy that... Even if I had to import it and had no idea what I was looking at...

but one anime that would make a cool game is maybe like a BECK game that uses my Guitar Hero controller... that would be awesome...

Hellsing! Hellsing! HELLSING!

Really, with the introduction of the new OVA, I have hopes that a new game will come out as well.

I would love to see a Gunslinger Girl mod for the Source engine. For simplicity we'll model it after CS:S. The terrorists can remain mostly the same, the CTs however will be the girls and "big brothers". All the maps would be based from the manga/anime and you'd have different modes such as insertion, assassinations, neutralizations and kidnapping.

You can flesh out more details yourself.

Battle Angel Alita. If you could make a somewhat free roaming game with an emphasis on cyborg ass kicking, compounded with an F-Zero styled Motorball minigame, you'd have a hit on your hands.

And you know, I wouldn't say no to a Devil May Cry styled Hellsing game.

Eat-man: You eat pieces of metal just to "summon" them from your left hand and using this skill as a mercenarie that tries to discover his past. Action, comedy, style, plot, wierd powers. I mean, common people!

Blame!: The gun, is enough. I mean a gun that fires gravitional bullets? That gun fires black holes! Only weapon you have.

Lone Wolf And Cub: Third-person perspective of the most dangerous man at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Swords, samurais, ninjas, sword-wielding child, horse back riding, archery, prostitues, trade, etc...

Laputa Castle In The Sky: Would become one hell of a plataform game.

FLCL: Fighting game. Similar to Marvel VS Campcom.

And that is all I can think of.

Yes some of the animes may stand a fair chance of becoming games, like Neon Genesis Evangelion, and S-CRY-ed. But the sad truth is, that if it has not been on Adult Swim, or Toonami (Or other channels most poeple have)than the chances of a game for fairly slim.

I would like to see a new Neon Genesis Evangelion game, S-CRY-ed and the idea of a Fooly Cooly fighting game sparks my intrest a bit.

More importantly, NGE is a decade old by now, interest is slim in Japan so Gainax probably wouldn't let any new games be made. Also it doesn't matter if it's on Toonami or not since well, most anime games are made in Japan so it's of little relevance to them.

Then I'd also like a Cowboy Bebop game of any kind. Just because I'd know the soundtrack'd be awesome.

It's an action adventure with absolutely horrible graphics that make my eyes bleed. Yes, Yoko Kanno's music is in it but it's the same from the anime. It is out only in Japan right now, and it's getting a US release sometime in March this year.

It looks like shit. Not including graphics.

Go play Naruto Narultimate Hero 2, I have that game and it's extremely fun. Some characters are unbalanced, but that doesn't hurt it so much because of the fun factor. It's an RPG/Fighter, the RPG part is story-telling you sit back and watch (wander around the village too) then you fight. Or you can play minigames, or do versus cpu or another person.

Yeah, very good game.

Mai HiME and its characters could actually lend itself to a fairly decent RPG/beat-em-up along the same lines of X-men Legends, if done correctly. Each HiME has their own unique powers and the player could upgrade and unlock new abilities as they discovered more of their potential and what not.

Oh I don't know about that, Death Note, for example could lend itself very well to a point & click type adventure. Or an RPG.

There are plenty of titles which could be worked into action adventures as well. GitS for example. It'd be a tricky process, but technically speaking it's possible.

I think that Wolfs Rain would be so cool!! You can be Kiba and can attack other people or wolves in wolf form or sneak around cities in human form! It would make a cool RPG. For the most part, anime games haven't been very good. The only good games based on anime were based on Dragon Ball Z i.e. Legacy of Goku. The YuYu Hakusho games were very bad. Electronic Gaming Monthly said the GBA game looked like the graphics were designed by 5 year olds with 4 crayons and a vague memory as to what the characters looked like. Also, the fights were boring when the fights in the anime are what attract the audience in the first place. Robotech: Battlecry was competent, but Robotech: Invasion was awful. Lupin the 3rd: Treasure of the Sorcerer King was substandard compared to the overall set of games out there. The Fullmetal Alchemist games were OK, but EGM said with so many fine RPGs out there, there's no excuse for less than great.

Pedro The Hutt
03-01-2006, 07:10 AM
Ah, but you should also take into account the numerous anime games that never have been released outside of Japan. Most have never left the country because in the west many still don't think anime games to be very marketable because well, they concider anime to still be a niche market.

Maybe Trigun could be done in the style of the gungrave games. The only difference is that it could be a bit more open ended (not as linear). And of course, Naruto and Bleach have already been done. I can't really think of any other animes that would be made into GOOD games. Possibly Kenshin if they used the Ninja Gaiden engine, or made it a 2D Guilty Gear-like fighter.

Almost any fighting anime - DBZ, Naruto, Kenshin, Ranma, etc - can be made into a fighting game pretty easily.

Alot of romance comedies - Maison Ikkoku, Love Hina - could work as Sims-style games.

Noir as a Hitman-type game, one that focuses on setup and precision instead of just gunplay.

Lupin III as a mix of Thief-style gameplay and MDK-type creativity.

Speed Grapher as Beyond Good & Evil or Fatal Frame.

Saber Marionette J or Bubblegum Crisis as a Final Fight.

Slayers, Lodoss War, and El Hazard all fit into the RPG genre, or could work as a Dynsasty Warriors.

Kiki's Delivery Service as Crazy Taxi.

Spirited Away as a point-click adventure game.

These anime aren't that new, so alot of them already have games. I was just thinking of some new games based on them that are, you know, actually good.

I agree Jetfire Trigun could make a good game, but it would have to a lot better than the Gungrave one. I've never played it, but I've seen videos how can they turn a great show like gungrave into that. Anyway Trigun would be good as a third person shooter. Macross was made into a game. It was called "Robotech: Battlecry".

They should make the Cowboy Bebop game kinda like Mercenaries. Both involve capturing bounties.

Here, what I imagine is that if you're Spike, you use your trusty Jericho 941 to take out the bounty's guards, and then go hand to hand to incapacitate your bounty. Finally, you call in Jet and he'll arrive with the Hammerhead or something to get the bounty up to the Bebop.

With the take-down move, it'll be like in Mercenaries where you hit the action button to start the takedown, but then you'll have a God of War-style minigame where you hit buttons according to the prompts to incapacitate the bounty.

It should also have Rogue Squadron-style Swordfish flying bits.

To top it off, this game should have an option to switch to the Japanese voice cast with English subtitles.

For Lupin III, they could have Metal Gear Solid type stealth.

Outlaw Star could be a first-person-shooter with space battle bits.

Speed Racer needs a racing game that's actually good.

I think Air Gear could REALLY work well as a video game. The first thing I thought of when I began watching Air Gear was the Jet Set Radio games (which I love), in terms of it's whole concept and general style, and I think Air Gear could translate very well into a similar game. It could have you skating around, doing crazy stunts, running from the authorities, and tagging areas with you're group's stickers, and could also work really well with the parts battles, which could make really cool challenges and/or boss battles, and could allow you to compete to upgrade your roller-blades and characters with better parts that could improve your performance and even earn you new turf. It'd also be really fun, with the shows massive cast of characters, to be able to choose from the various characters, and even play as various gangs from the show. There could even be an in-game shop, or sorts, with that big, weird-looking old lady, where you could purchase parts, characters, items, costumes and the like. On top of all this, the game already has a great soundtrack lined up for it, with the show's great hip-hop/pop/techno/industrial/rock OST making for the perfect soundtrack to listen to while you played. In my opinion, Air Gear is just screaming to have a game made of it.....here's to hoping!

I'd love to see Spriggan as a game (if there already isnt one made. And if there is, they can probably make a better one by now). All of the action from the anime would translate so well into a game. I'd love to be able to shoot out that cable that Yu has, snag someone with it, and toss them all around the level, bashing them into things, and seeing the scenery get dented up. Plus, all of the shooting, super strength, melee fighting, and explosions. Fun stuff. It would nice nice to have it developed by the makers of God of War, Ninja Gaiden, or even Sega (if they can make it a short but sweet experience similar to Gungrave).

I've been thinking, 'how awesome would a Gasaraki RTS be?' done in the style of say, Myth or Mech Commander. That would be a nice game.

Someone mentioned a Gunslinger Girl shooter. Neat Idea, but CS:S shits me up the wall. I wouldn't touch it with a standard 10 foot pole if it was modded for that game. Not that I don't like the source engine, I just hate Counter Strike.

Speaking of mods, there have been some Trigun mods in the works, both for Half Life 2. One's called Permanent Vacation (http://mods.moddb.com/6468/trigun-permanent-vacation/), which doesn't have any releases yet, and the other is called Escape from Pain (http://www.fileplanet.com/157645/150000/fileinfo/Half-Life-2---Trigun:-Escape-from-Pain-Mod), which is in alpha release.
